Another tricky one - wild guess, here, to be honest - is this some sort of Bertone coupe on a Simca 1300/1500, from about 1968/70 ? It looks Italian, but I think I've seen a picture of a Simca with a similar body. Very pretty car, whatever it is...

ps - sorry - I managed to post this twice, so hence no number 11794...

Topgear was right on the money. The car is basically undriveable if the electronics fail (which they will) and fixing them? Oh my god.....A-M engines are notoriously difficult to rebuild as well....

    MINI Cooper Clubman S

I will take mine in either Chili Red with a black roof, mirrors and wheels or Indi Blue with white roof, mirrors and wheels without the contrasting border of the rear doors.

That contrasting edge is not attractive I don't care if it was on the originals.

That chrome really emphasizes the carp mouth doesn't it?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yeah, delete that and the headlight surrounds and I'd prefer it overall.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,528
I don't really like the hearse doors, either...

If they had kept it just like the Cooper S, only stretched, it would have been just about perfect.

Yep, they're too cute for their own good. Let's see, less visibility, need for an added wiper - what were they thinking of?
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
The really silly thing is the little door behind the main door, on the passenger side only, I believe - if the car is LHD, that is. It is going to be sold here in UK with the same layout even with RHD so we get the door on the drivers side - people with kids will have to let them out into the traffic I suppose....(and they even build it here)
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Well knowing MINI almost everything will be customizable so you should be able to do that.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Somewhere in the Edmunds article it said that it would cost too much money to R&D the door for both sides and since the majority of the MINIs market is LHD they didn't bother to engineer a RHD door.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,528
That is always the problem, when you only have one door... Put it on the driver's side, where there is always someone to let them out.... Or, put it on the passenger side, which is safer, but it means the driver has to walk around the car to let them out.

Of course, if you have little kids, you are already doing that with the child-proof door locks..

If you're going to ruin what was already an overweight sub by adding more weight and length and fugliness to it, why not just get a Fatty Mcgee xB and save 8 grand or so?

Now THAT'S a color combo you don't see every day...thankfully...
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
    And you like that car...er...why?

It's a bit overdone don't you think? Or do you like it because of that?

Kinda looks like a Jaguar that got overinflated somehow.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
    And you like that car...er...why?

You know I'm just a sucker for a split vee windshield, I really don't know why. That windshield is perfectly shaped, looks like it came off a prewar BMW 328.

I also like the shapes of the grille and fenders. I'd agree the colors are a bit much, they're much sought after by collectors of contemporary Chevies.

Personally I think it's better looking and more sporty than Jag Saloons of the pre Mk.I era.

I see your point about the windshield but the fenders are way too high IMO and out of proportion. The car appears (at least in the photo, which may be distorted) very clown-ish to me.

We should compare to the front end of a Jaguar XK140 to see if I'm imagining all this.

    image

Okay, no, I'm not imagining it. The proportions of the XK are much nicer, don't you think? I mean in the headlight to fender relationship.

My friend Stewart had a wonderful name for "overinflated" English saloons. He called them BLIVETS
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,517
Riley ca. 1950...model name has to do with displacement, something like 2.5 or 3.5 maybe.

Someone mentioned a BMW-ish windshield...more "liberated" material maybe, like the Bristol.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
I think Riley was long past its glory by then. Back in the 30s, they made a car called the Riley Gamecock. No comment. They did make some sporty little cars though at one time and they were a very old company.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
It's a 1954 Riley RME 1.5 (there was a 2.5 Riley Saloon, the similar looking Riley RMB).

Shifty, no fair comparing the RME, a 1954 four door sedan to a later sports car design, of course the XK-140 is more pleasing to look at but but I think the Riley compares favorable to a real "Blivet" like the contemporary Jaguar sedan>

    330 GTC, I think
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
    Might be a 500 Superfast.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,517
I think the 500 was longer, similar greenhouse though.

Those 500s are pretty weird, but in a good way.

    330 GTC, I think

Yup, there's a strong resemblance to the 500 Superamerica but that's the smaller engined 330GTC ca. '67 which married the Superamerica nose with the tail of the 275 GTS.

#1: Pontiac on left looks like 1962 Bonneville.

#2: Parked car 2nd form left- Buick Special. 1963?

#3: Buick Special 2nd car from right. 1964ish.

#4: 1958 Bonneville 4-dr hardtop at the right in tan/white roof.

    2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,

    #4 -is not a '58 Bonnie, it's a '59 Poncho of some sort.

#2 -hard to tell, can't see much, could be a '61 Cadillac.

Who knows the movie and/or the actor?

I should have said Pontiac Bonneville 4-door hardtop. I think it's the Bonneville rather than Catalina lower line because the rear taillights were long and narrow on the Bonneville model while the Catalina had shorter taillights in the horizontal direction.

It sure is and there are lots of neat cars in it. DiCaprio plays the part of Frank Abagnale.

    S6 Avant?
  • seminole_kevseminole_kev Member Posts: 1,696
Audi A6 Avant - All Road? If so, we're not even going to get that here now correct? I think they're throwing all those eggs into the Q7 basket. (I could be wrong though, just remember picking that up from somewhere)
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
Yup, it's a 2006 Audi AllRoad (based on the A6 Avant). AFAIK Audi has no plans to export it to the US, mistakenly believing we'd prefer an ugly Tank like the Q7 to an all-weather station wagon.

    I hardly ever see a Q7 around here ;) .

I see Q7s every day here, some Stepford wives seem to like them. It does not look good in white.

I see Hertz rents them in Vegas for ca. $150/day.
