re your Triumphs on the highway - that Triumph 2000 looks like it has a roll-cage, it has a non-standard reversing light, which is basically a spotlight facing backwards - a common period modification for cars which were used for rallying - and best of all, the KV part of the number plate indicates it was registered in Coventry, where Triumph cars were made, and more significantly where all their competition cars, and the press fleet used by contemporary magazines etc. were based. Could be a former works rally car....

That's for the one 007 owned? How about one owned by John Voight? I think he was a LeBaron guy though.

    Magnette,
Thanks for the extra info about the Triumph and its Coventry factory connection. That's great.

Old freelander actually and yes it is a Euro spec one at that. I pulled it off a MSNBC article the incorrectly had it identified as a Discovery.

You can tell because the Freelander 2/LR2 have silver chrome effect grills while the Freelander did not. Also the Freelander had the radio antenna mounted all the way forward on the roof and you can just barely see it in the top of the picture. The LR2/Freelander 2 has the antenna mounted in the rear quarter glass.

On the far left is the VW Dasher, circa 1970's.

In the middle is the VW Fox, imported from Brazil.

The red car is, I believe, the new VW Tiguan.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
In Brazil the Fox wagon was called the VW Parati. The coupe was the Voyage, the hatch (not sold here) was the Gol.

That's not a Tiguan, though, it's a new Jetta wagon.
  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
    Well, 2 out of 3.

The Tiguan is the new CUV, right?

I like the looks of that Jetta Wagon.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yep. I think it's loosely based on the Golf Plus.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
This one is based on the S110 Silvia/200SX, but is a separate model.

Navigator EL? Is that what they call that model?
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Just Navigator L. EL is the Expedition version. We should be glad it's not the Navigator MKLWB or something.

I believe that's the MallRunner-XS with the special off-road package (dumb wheels).

Yep, that's the new ('08) Jetta Sportswagen, some of us eagerly await the diesel version.

That's the 2dr wagon version of the Fox, my bro owned the 2dr sedan.

Oh crud, what was that thing called? Adzam AM-1? Nice little early-90s mid-engine kei car.

Edit: ah, AZ-1. I found a nice phantom view of that thing somewhere.
  • hudsonthedoghudsonthedog Member Posts: 552
What? Couldn't find it on my CarSpace page?

I think you were thinking of "Autozam," one of Mazda's dealer networks in Japan.
  • karsickkarsick Member Posts: 312
Nissan 240 RS (circa 1983), as campaigned by both Tony Pond & Shekhar Mehta (although I suspect this photo is from a recent "historic" rally, and the driver is Japanese, judging by the flag by his name).

The 240 RS had some SERIOUS rally competition in its time, from the likes of purpose-built, GroupB 4wd turbo monsters.

Chrysler 300M. Normal round '90s car with a clashy squared-off rear end.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,133
The era Chrysler cars (300M, Concorde, Intrepid) may have started the current '4-door coupe' roof style. I remember being surprised in an Intrepid taxi that my head was under the window, not the roof.

  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
something like a '96 Chevy Tahoe 2 door, which looks a lot like a newer version of the past K-5 Blazers (pre-'90).

  • karsickkarsick Member Posts: 312
That's actually the initial concept Smart Car (ca. 1969), decades before those Swiss watchmaker folks bought the patent.

The telltale signs are the 40" wheelbase (makes for great directional stability on slick freeways when you're being buffeted by lorries) and, of course, the two-tone paint.

Self-righteous smugness had yet to be made obligatory at this development phase. ;)
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
That's because it is a Blazer, '92-94. GM dillied around and didn't bother to apply the new body to the full-size Blazer until 1992, then for 1995 they stretched it, added a second set of doors, and called it a Tahoe.
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
Hard to place those mid '90's Chevy trucks on an exact year sometimes. There was a 2 door Tahoe in '95 and '96 though, rare to see still.

That combination of grille & dashboard are the clues to the 1994 model year Chevy.

The grille is the newer "wide-bar" grille, and the blocky, ugly dash (which you can just make out through the glass) was replaced in 1995 with a more modern design.
