Anyone ever seen an actual Camry Patrol car?

    Up close and personal, unfortunately...

Georgetown, KY is right on I-75, just north of Lexington.. I think only county sheriff and Georgetown police had Camry cruisers... But, they patrol I-75 frequently.. The plant is on the east side of the interstate and downtown Georgetown is on the west side.

KSP was one of the first to have Mustang pursuit cars..

Moskvitch - I think this is the 408, but it may be an early 411. If its a 408, then late 60's to about 1972...
I used to have a friend who had a succession of Moskvitchs - mostly estate versions. They were generally reliable, but very shoddy cars, and they tended to fall apart after about 3 years so you didn't tend to see old ones. They sold well in Britain for a few years in the early 70's, when they were just about the cheapest car on the market- typically about £ 100 less than the cheapest Mini - but crash regulations didn't help, and when Lada came along in the mid 70's they swept up all the potential market..

Further to my previous post, I think instead of 411 I mean 412...

I know several of us were upset at your oversight :P

Sounds like these were like the first Hundais in the US, cheap, popular, terrible...
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
That's it, a 1968 Moskovitch 412. I figured the Toreadors would trick people into thinking it was a SEAT or something. :P

C6 Corvette ZR-1, has some kind of supercharged LS something-or-other under the hood. Yet another example of the triumph of horsepower over traction.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
Who needs traction when you can go 0-60 in sub 3.5 seconds ? :P

Yep that's it, 2008 Corvette ZR-1. As if we needed something faster than the Z06.

Olds Starfire ?? The Monza clone? Say, '83?
  • gussguss Member Posts: 1,167
I think you are on the right track, but the wrong train. The Starfire had a more vented nose piece(can you even call it a grille?).

My guess would be a late '70s Chevy Monza.

    1970 Fiat Dino

Hudson you're exactly right, it's an '80 Monza Spyder. I don't know why they called a closed car a Spyder, I guess the same reason VW gave the name Phaeton to a sedan.

The '70 Dino is a Dino Spider (Fiat spells it with an "I"), the Coupe was quite different, with Bertone styling.

Monza - weren't those the ones (with V8) requiring jacking up the engine for spark plug replacement?
  • karsickkarsick Member Posts: 312
    Fiat Barchetta (circa 1996) :confuse:
  • gussguss Member Posts: 1,167
Thats correct , 1970 Fiat Dino Spider(or Spyder, I have seen it spelled both ways).

It should not be "Spyder" since Italian does not have a "y" in it.
  • gussguss Member Posts: 1,167
Then to be correct it should be "Fix it again Toni"?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Italian does not have a Y but Maserati has always used "Spyder" to describe their open cars.

V8 Monzas were infamous for that but the pictured car is in fact powered by ye olde 3800 V6.

3 out of 4 ain't bad but that is definitely not a '54 Cadillac, those got the wraparound windshields first seen on the '53 Eldorado. The rest of the GM lineup got the wraparounds in '55 (as did the FoMoCos).

    I can't tell if the Caddy is a '52 or '53.

The Buick in the foreground is a 1954. The car #5 is a 1955 Buick.

That's right that particular headlight treatment was AFAIK unique to '54 Buicks. Frankly, I can't see enough of the other Buick (next to the Caddy the guy is sitting on) to say if it's a '54 or '55.

My bad! I was inbcorrect in stating that only Cadillac had the wraparound windshields in '54. Buick and Olds had 'em as well but not Pontiac oir Chebby.

Personally I've still got a soft spot for Wraparounds. I've loved 'em ever since I saw Harley Earl's Lesabre concept at the GM Motorama, ca. 1951>

    correction: car #5 is NOT a 1955. It's probably a 54 Buick.

In the US, that car would probably be about half that price. But, then again, we probably pay twice as much for many old English cars (I own two).

Looks like a 1983 Cadillac Sedan DeVille with the infamous 4.1 litre V-8. A friend of mine has a very nice light blue one.

BMW 1-series (not sure which motor, but can assume by the spiffy wheels it's up-spec).

The US market gets a new coupe version soon.

That hatch is one of the few Bangle designs I like. ;)

I agree. Too bad we don't get it. BMW failed in their previous attempts, but they were more a hatchet job (cut off the trunk) than a true hatch back. I think they'd have more success with this kind of a hatch, like Audi is with the A3

    Yep, it's a One-er, UK Spec I think. I don't know which engine but it looks like a 128i.

    Make mine a convertible. ;)

    UK-spec?

    Let's see...

    1) Yellow numberplate
    2) RHD
    3) Wet pavement
    4) Brick buildings
    5) Tidy lawn

    Yep, I'd agree. :P

What about "Manic Monday" or "Walk like an Egyptian?" I think Susanna Hoffs was my favorite Bangle.

If they offered that model in the US, as long as it has a moonroof, I would go to the dealer tonight and hand them a deposit check.

Read a review last night on the coupe, and it sounded wonderful, but I doubt I could make it work with my ever growing kids (they outgrew my tC 2 years ago!)

But, the 5 door work be fine now.

My "hey, the kids are finally out of the house" car would be the convertible version!

Also correct that the 318ti was basically a German gremlin compared to the 3 series (Gremlin -> Hornet)
