Now there's a challenge... name the string of vehicles that was involved in the start of the race to get to the "big W" :)

NB: I've got "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" on VHS - 2 tapes!

-> VW Beetle convertible (Buddy Hackett and Mickey Rooney)
-> Plymouth Fury convertible (Milton Berle, wife and MIL)
-> Chrysler Imperial (Sid Ceasar and wife)
-> The moving truck Jonathan Winters drove

    What do I win? :)

Milton Berle and family were in the Imperial

Sid Ceasar was in a Dodge wagon, IIRC

It was Ethel Merman's son who had the red Fury or Dodge convert, a fantastic looking car they drove very hard. It tangled with that 61 Impala the British guy and Berle ended up with and crashed, the Chevy being especially damaged.

But the most painful car moment was the 46 Ford convert driven by Phil Silvers that gets damaged then drowned. Then he gets ahold of a 55 or 56 Ford Convert from Don Knotts, that he rams into a parking barrier at the 'Big W' park.

Great car movie. At the firetruck ladder scene at the end, there's even a part where you see a fintail.

Cheapskates liked 'em because they could save money and speed demons liked 'em because they were lighter and stronget that HTs.

Who knows the year and model of this two-tone?

Opel Admiral or Kapitan...probably the latter, as it looks very top of the line.

I wouldn't doubt if there are few to zero survivors. A mere 10 years after that was made, Euro cars began their trend of leading world design, and that thing would have looked silly.

On that note, I like it.

    It's a '58 Opel Kapitan.

Pretty much spot on Mr. S, she's a 1948 6C2500SS and the new dress is by Pinin Farina

Dunno but it looks like you could seat 4 across, sign me up!

Minus the fuel efficiency I think I'd seriously like to try one of those.

Yup, think its a 69 or 70. There is a couple like that near me, slightly hot rodded and painted electric blue. Looks real clean though.

is it a Monterey? I think I looked it up once. Don't think it's a Montego.

    It is the pre-cursor to the 510. It's a Bluebird 411. 1966 or so.

I think they even made an SSS model sedan with dual carburators (SU type). This was I believe the roadster motor. They were good little cars, I'd like to have one.

It looks vaguely familiar but I can't quite place it. I think he badge on the rear sez "MAZDA". The hubcaps and whitewalls scream late '60s/early 70s.

I believe this is a 1970 or 1971 mazda 1200 or if a rotary a mazda 100. I had one of these as a station wagon and it made a great saturday night rally car. I once heard that they only came to the west coast of the U.S.

It could be a 1200, but it's not an R-100. They had the trademark round tail lights that Mazda used on all early rotary sedans.

Just an observation about that era - those cars seem really big outside and not so big inside. Space efficiency doesn't seem to be a real strong point, eh?

I think my Forester has about half the foot print and twice the interior room.

    Proceed as usual. LOL

...a 1968 Dodge Coronet R/T, but I don't see the badging. Maybe it's just a Coronet 500 hardtop with aftermarket wheels and added bumblebee stripe.
  • Options
    Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
I think you're right lemko---no power bulge on the hood either and no grille badging for the R/T.

Could also be a Coronet Super Bee except that the Bee also should have the power bulge hood.

Which by the way does not refer to engine size. "440" is just a model.

If it did mean engine size, an 880 would be quite a car
