"71 (really out on a limb) Cuda

You picked a good limb to climb out on, it is a '71 Barracuda.

    How about this?=>image

Wow, a mid '70's Granada and in great shape. Haven't seen one of those in a long while, and most of those I had seen were being taken over by rust.

It was the LTD that was the 4 door, right?

This is, I believe, a Lamborghini Espada?

Regarding Saab Turbos -- I have a friend who owns an '89 Saab Turbo ... bought it new, has all the shop manuals for it, only takes it out on perfect sunny days. Has probably less than 25K on it. He has another Saab (late 90's 900 4-door) for day to day errands.

It is indeed a Lambo Espada, a car that IMO looks senational from some angles and a bit goofy from others.

A less exotic sportster from the same era=>

Except Citroen figured out to put the fender skirts on the wheels that DON'T steer :P

Isn't Nash about the only company that decided to re-introduce a car they stopped making years ago? Oh, wait, I think Porsche also did that with the 912 actually.

Yep, my father-in-law had an orange one. Automatic no less, as he didn't like manual trannys. Believe it or not, he went from a Buick Riviera to an Opel GT. Needless to say, he didn't have the Opel very long. Too much of a shock, I think...

Yes, which probably how my father-in-law learned about the Opel GT. He loved the "styling," but hated the car once he got it. Going from a a V8 to a 4-cylinder, and going from a gushy ride to a harsh ride, just about did him in. ;)

He wasn't a "car guy," but he surely was suduced by the Opel's styling. It reminded me of the Covair Monza GT concept car of that never made production.

    http://www.carstyling.ru/car.asp?id=2109

Speaking of the Corvair: This was the "original" Chevy Corvair, which was a coupe version of the original Corvette. This was found on that Monza link above, which has a whole bunch of other Chevy concept cars too.

    http://www.carstyling.ru/car.asp?id=2107

I will admit, Chevy did some pretty neat concept cars back in the 50s and 60s. Check out some of those other Chevy links on that site. Here's another favorite of mine: The original Chevy Nomad, which was a Corvette wagon (shooting brake!).

I always thought a '53 Corvette Coupe was a good idea.

Porsche 912: Discontinued in 1969, brought back for one year as the 912E in 1976. Strange, huh?

Same body basically but different engine. Instead of the 912 engine (which was really just a 1.6 liter 356 engine mounted differently), the 912E was fitted .....ewwwwww....mit the VW 411 2 liter engine via the Porsche 914.

Travelall was the Suburban-looking monster, and Traveler was basically a LWB Scout II. The IH crew cab had its own name.

andys, I could be wrong but I don't think that style is Art Deco...I think they called it "Streamline Moderne"....it's meant to suggest a kind of "naive aerodynamics".

My father-in-law has a 912 vintage race car - made from a street car, of course. I don't think there really were any 912 race cars back in the day. But, my father-in-law wanted to relive his glory days of owning a 912 in Germany when he was in the military, so 912 it is. It is a very well done car. It is kind of funny at Porsche club events people will march right past Porsche race cars worth $100K and up to get a look at this odd duck.

Dunno but they certainly seem related.

Porsche 912: Oh, in Europe they use the long-wheelbase models (1969) for club racing, that's not so unusual.

That little woody is a Fiat 500

Yes it is, sort of. It's called the Fiat 500 Belvedere but it's not based on the rear-engined Fiat 500 that put postwar Italy on wheels (known to Fiatisti as the Nuova 500). The Belvedere wagon was based on the "Little Mouse", the front-engined Topolino 500, born in 1936 (same year as the Beetle IIRC) and produced up until l957 when the Nouva 500 replaced it.

Ferrari. Let's see, looks like a Boxer, so is that the 512BB?

Yep it's either a 512 or I think a similar looking car from earlier was a 365GTB or something to that effect
  • Options
    andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,400
It is a mid 70s 512BB, there's a lot of confusion in the Ferrari nomenclature of this period.
When the Flat 12 Berlinetta Boxer was introduced in the early 70's it was designated
365BB/4 (easily confused with the contemporaneous V12 powered Daytona, officially a 365/GTB/4) based on the displacement of each cylinder (365ccX12=4.4L).

When Ferrari changed it's model namess to reflect the total # of cylinders in the mid 70s the Boxer became the 512BB. To make things really confusing, later Testarossa models were called 512TR.

Of course none of the Testarossas had anything in common with the Testa Rossa
race cars of the 50s and 60s. Got all that  :confuse:  ?

The IH crew cab is a Travelette. It was the only factory crew cab pickup before the '70s, and early ones only had three doors.

The Rover is indeed the SD1/3500 with the ubiquitous Buick/Rover V8 under the hood.
It was heavily favored by British police of the 80s.
