That Buick, however is a 40s vintage ('42 or '46, or '47?). Still it was influenced by that Streamline Moderne movement. WWII had a funny way of delaying design, as the '46 cars were essentially warmed over '42 models.
That was the car that I bonded with (like a duckling to the mother duck) when I was an infant. This was the first car I remember, as my dad had a black '41 Buick Special 2-door sedanette (AKA fastback). I remember him taking me to Buick dealer ~ 1950 or so, and it's been down hill for me as a car junky ever since.
And yes, "Ventiports" was the term Buick used—which are also on the '41 model pictured.
Yep that's a version of the best selling car in Japan, the Suzuki Wagon R, I wouldn't know what that particular model is called. Incidentally only two of the ten Japanese best sellers are sold in the USA, the Corolla and the Echo (Toyota Vitz in Japan).
Yep the old Volvo is a PV544. The similar looking but older 444 has a split windshield and B16 engine rather than the ubiquitious B18, the former of which can be recognized by its crankshaft lying in two pieces.
Nope it's a '66 GT-350H, McQueen's Bullitt ride was a 390-equipped '67 model. Note that the car in my photo wears racing numbers in addition to the Hertz gold-on-black livery. Legend has it that some renters back in the day raced their daily rentals in SCCA B-production.
I wanted to rent one myself but you had to be 25 and I was 23 when they phased the GT-3540H out of their fleet (gee I wonder why )
or one of the many Seven clones that have been made over the years. The engine is most likely the Saab/DKW three cyl/2 stroke. I can't say I recognize it, it's been 40+ years since Iast saw one. :surprise:
Isn't that Honda AWESOME? A shop near me built it. It dynoe'd around 300 HP I was told, and that's real HP, as this shop doesn't mess around.
MYSTERY CAR:
It's called an Altair, and is basically a knock off of a Lotus SIX, not a Seven. The SIX was the first Lotus kit car.
The Altair was built in UK in the late 1990s but the operation was apparently aborted due to liability issues that the original Lotus kit cars never had to face. The original engine was a side-valve Ford, and in fact, this "altair" is now in the US registered as a Ford Special.
The engine is from a Geo Metro and I hear the car scoots along pretty good, being very light.
When I was in Europe, me and two inebriated friends picked up a Trabant and put it sideways in its parking spot. I took a picture of it the next morning. That was one of my proudest moments.
I was going to take a flyer on this and guess DAF but it's even WEIRDER. I should have know that only the commies would be using tailfins that late in the game.
There's a windshield sticker that says Mazda, and it looks like Mazda is also on the front. So I did a Google search of Mazda 3-wheelers and came up with the Mazda T 600 Utility. No pics or links however.
Yep it's a Trabbi, the proper name of that particular model is Sachsenring P601 Trabant Univeral "Trabant" was the model name but the manufacturer was the old German company Sachsenring.
When it was introduced in 1962 the Trabbi was actually a pretty advanced vehicle, it was FWD at a time when only a half dozen models had it and the body was made of a cotton-resin(?) based thermoplastic similar to fiberglass. Of course the Trabbi wore out it's welcome staying in production thru 1994 giving it what must have been the longest production run of any Germn car except the Beetle.

I'm sure there were plenty of trucks that showed Art Deco/Streamline styling, big GMCs for example, or how about this International?=>

Of course that's some special edition and given the names they use it's probably called the Step Wagen Fun Life Type R Classic.

Frankly I don't recall any MC fastback but under the skin the '86 Pontiac GP Aeroback was the same car as the '86 MC.

I had a neighbor that had one... He was going to keep it forever, because that one was going to be worth so much more.... :surprise:
Evidently, they did it so they could use it in NASCAR... it actually made a difference at 200 MPH.. go figure..
Is that Pontiac a US model? I don't remember those... Of course, I was into BMWs and Porsches in the '80s...

You should see

b) the mystery engine, which you may be able to identify as there aren't too many in the world like it.
