Is that a Skoda badge on the front?

    Yes, it is.

No idea what the model name is, however.

I'm going to stick with Skoda too..........but it's not your father's Skoda! :)

Vauxhall Velox circa 1960? That can't be the stock paint.
  • mac24mac24 Member Posts: 3,910
It almost certainly is the original color, although it may not be the original paint.

Two tones were very popular on both the Crestas and Veloxes, mostly in pale pastel shades.

    Here's another:

    I think that's a Skoda Yeti
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,507
One of my favorite Matchbox is the 1958 Cresta, also issued in some weird two-tones:

Yessir, that is indeed a Skoda Yeti with Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear behind the wheel. Clarkson likes to be arch and picky-icky but he called the Yeti "the perfect car".

    G'day

A PA series Vauxhall Cresta. They were very popular with early rock and roll types in the UK and were particularly associated with Teddy Boy Gangs. Actually quite classy for a bog standard British saloon and dramatically more interesting than any Cresta/Velox before or since

Closer to me, my great uncle had one in the early 1960's which he drove (as with all cars) by alternately applying and slipping the clutch, producing a weird progression of acceleration and coast. As a very small child, I travelled with him and my mother, to the airport in Adelaide. I can remember mum's sheer terror at Uncle Art's driving.

After his death, my cousin inherited the car. First job was a clutch and transmission rebuild.

    Cheers

    Graham

without any research on my part, and from just trying to remember what the front close up looked like, isn't this pretty much just a variant of the Tiguan that we already get?

I thought that might be the case but I could find no cross-references between the Gold-based Tiguan and the little Skoda in either Wikipedia or CAR.

I suspect the Yeti may be on a Polo platform but there's other little Skoda X-overs so it's confusing, perhaps Magnette or Fintail can help.

According to this, it is not Tiguan based

Somehow, I like it and the weird Roomster too.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,496
Hey, I like it a lot. I would be happy to buy something like that. Quite small, but plenty of cargo room and flexibility.

Reminds me a little of a gen 1 CRV from that angle.

Yeah it does look like an old CRV but it seems to ride lower and doesn't have the oh so Macho outside spare that endeared it to Lesbian buyers.

Correcto! It is also the only production Ferrari styled by Bertone (some low volume Ferraris had Bertone bodies in the early 50s). The GTB/4 Dino does not get much respect among collectors who prefer Ferrari's 2 seaters. This 1975 car is for sale at a mere $26,500 with a claimed 55K.>

"Looks like a '66 Ford Fairlane Convertible.... "

I do believe you are correct, but where did those hubcaps come from???
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,671
Yup, it's a 1966 Ford Fairlane. W grafer, I don't think those are hubcaps, I think they're optional styled wheels, probably not alloys tho (not many cars had alloys other than a few w aftermarket wheels in '66 IIRC).

I think that '59 Mopar is actually a Chrysler New Yorker, and not a DeSoto. The DeSoto had a thicker, heavier bumper/grille combination with twin horizontal openings in the top part, and one long one in the part below, and the whole thing was larger. The DeSoto had less grille above the bumper, compared to the Chrysler.

And the reason I think it's a New Yorker is the way the upper part of that split bumper kicks up at the outer edge by the fender. It didn't kick up on the Windsor or Saratoga, and they had grille trim that wrapped around the fender, instead.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,507
I think those are hubcaps. There were indeed wheels offered on the Fairlane then, but they were pretty identical to Mustang GT wheels, if not the same.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,671
I looked around in Google images and found this photo of a Fairlane with what look like the same wheel covers as the red convertible>

That has to be Magnum's 308 GTS, along with a Coupe De ville, a Datsun 280Z, a Karmann Ghia, and a wagon...maybe GM?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,496
the wagon is a mid/later 60's FS chebbie.

Yeah that would be a 280ZX, that is Magnum's Ferrari 308 GTS and yes that is almost certainly a late 60s ('68 or '69) Chevy wagon (low end/Bel Air? Biscayne?). IMCDB ID's the Caddie as a '73 Coupe deVille

Must be the 1956 Simca Coupé de Ville...very rare. Aluminum body made by Simca in conjunction with Facel Metalon. And of course, Brigitte Bardot.

I can't say I'm familiar with the Simca Coupe de Ville but it looks to me like a 1953 or so Simca 8 Sport, not a super rare car but very nice for it's time and the last gasp of a wave of French styling that produced the best looking cars in the world until the Italians took over in the early 50s.

Yes, a car running on compressed air! Are electric cars in for a shock if this thing actually works?
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Yeah, but what powers the air compressor? How do you measure economy; by miles per cubic foot of air? What kind of range does it have?
  • todd1963todd1963 Member Posts: 1
The white station wagon looks like a '68 or '69 Chevelle wagon.. low line..maybe a Nomad.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
    It says:

"There are no keys - just an access card which can be read by the car from your pocket. According to the designers, it costs less than 50 rupees per 100 Km (about a tenth that of a petrol car). Its mileage is about double that of the most advanced electric car (200 to 300 km or 10 hours of driving), a factor which makes a perfect choice in cities where 80% of motorists drive at less than 60 Km. The car has a top speed of 105 Kmph."

You fill it up at access stations (gas stations) or you can plug it into 220V at home.

My guesses - 58 Dodge, 66 Plymouth Barracuda behind it, a late 60's Plymouth or Dodge intermediate beside it, and maybe in the background a 71/72 red Charger and a blue 63 Plymouth.

That's a "Plodge", essentially a ca. '58 Plymouth rebadged as a Dodge Regent in Canada or a Dodge Kingsway in other export Markets.

    Exported Plymouths, Dodges and Chryslers.
