they were a rarity the day they were sold new. Typical agricultural engine for a Subaru of that period, but pretty torquey. My friend Jim said they were really nasty to work on. They even made a turbo model, which is banned from his shop apparently. And THIS is a man who works on Peugeots! :surprise:
Best to avoid any air suspension Subaru from that era. $2k or so to rebuild. In fact most find it's cheaper to convert to springs so they do that instead.
Having said that, paisan owned an XT6, converted it to metal springs, and was actually competitive in autocross.
The Subaru Crew did a fun run in the Pine Barrens and this other guy showed up in an XT with rally tires and all, and did this water crossing WAAAAAAAAAAAy too fast and ended up sucking up water in the intake and stalling out.
He didn't get the memo that water doesn't compress like air does.
Funny thing was they pulled the plugs, sprayed in WD40 and cranked it a few times, then before you knew it it was running again! Hilarious.
Clutch gave out later that day. No surprise given the abusive type of driving he did.
Any how, bizarro but fun little car that probably to this day makes most people think quirky when they hear "Subaru".
That has to be a Pontiac concept of some sort, I have no idea what, but that nose sure looks a lot like a Firebird/Trans-am. Curious to what year this is from. Guess it kind of looks like an early '80's Corvette morphed into a Pontiac.
Clever! I also see a little bit of 1948 Cadillac in the grille. I believe this is another Russkie copycar called the ZIM. I'd say this is around a 1955 model.
Wow!, You are good Lemko. It's a '54 GAZ M12 ZIM. Bet you didn't know that the M in ZIM (Zavod Imeni Molotova) is for Molotov as in Vyacheslav Molotov, the old Bolshevk who served as Stalin's Foreign Minister.
Ok... had to cheat a little to find out what Triumph had a straight 6 and flip up hood, cause I knew, of course, the spitfire didn't have a 6. I still don't know if this is the exact one, though: so how about the GT6?

"The Redline is a Mopar-tuned Charger that will be available in three kits. Stage One gets you a Mopar carbon-fiber chin spoiler, carbon-fiber door scoops and a carbon-fiber rear spoiler on top of a Charger R/T. Stage Two gets you a cat-back exhaust, front strut-tower brace and high-performance brake linings. Stage Three is the fun one. Stage three drops in a 590-horsepower Gen III 426 Hemi V8 crate engine that is for "race/off-road use only." In unrelated news, states like Wyoming, Florida, Montana, Minnesota, parts of Nevada and South Dakota (that I know of) don't have any sort of safety or emissions testing. "
At least it had some power to it. 5.7ltr V8 OHV. With the way the new hatchback crossovers are coming out (Honda Crosstour, Subaru XV, Audi Q5, Volvo C30, Infiniti EX) I think GM was ahead of their time with this in '97. You gotta admit, this thimg looked a hell of a lot better than the hAztek.
Unlike Chrysler who only dropped a tiny v6 into the Prowler.
Parts of New Hampshire do not have emissions testing including Coos, Grafton, Carroll, Belknap, and Strafford counties. That's probably true of lots of states that have sparsely populated rural counties far from urbanized areas.
Only Boise/Ada County in Idaho has emissions checks and no safety inspection anywhere. There's one stretch of interstate where 590 hp could be enjoyable. :shades:
None of that stuff is near me now, but around here, you'd just hit a deer that much faster.
The Pontiac above the trunk of the '53 Plymouth looks like a '54 to me (cannot see too clearly, but looks like the signal light is in the trim, not below like on a '53).
Behind that Pontiac looks like a '54 Dodge, a '48 Pontiac Streamliner, and a '53 Pontiac. I can't tell for sure if the nice Olds convertible behind the '49 Chevy is a '54, '55, or '56. I guess i need a new monitor.....
My Dad had a 86 Shelby Charger. As a kid it seemed like a pretty cool car. He wrecked it on the Jersey Turnpike and then replaced it with an 87 Shadow Coupe w/ the turbo 4 automatic. That car, not so cool.

Correction: I revise that to "early '70's Opel 1900 coupe". I'm thinking the name "Manta" wasn't used until the advent of big bumpers.

I'll guess at Rover P5B 3.5litre, although front overhang looks a bit wrong; could be perspective

When you do a concept car, the general public is supposed to go "WOW", not "WHA?"

Supercharged Hemi with all kinds of Mopar back room goodies tacked on. About 600 HP IIRC.
See it in Detroit.
