is it a Rover varient of a Civic? Or just a blatant copy of the front end?

Triumph Acclaim, early 80's. Looks like a Honda Civic cause it was based on the Civic.

You don't seem to have had a reply to this one - it's a Talbot Samba - that one is a 'cabrio' but the saloon was more common - close relative of the Peugeot 104Z .
  • fiatownerfiatowner Member Posts: 75
Wasn't the hot NSU Prinz 4 called TT or TTS? They also made a 1200 which was similar but had a fake chrome grille.
  • fiatownerfiatowner Member Posts: 75
These weren't just ugly... the engine on the Alpine/Solara was like a bag of nails...they were often used as minicabs here but were falling apart when they were new!
  • fiatownerfiatowner Member Posts: 75
At last - a decent looking car, this is an Alvis TF21 - :) the double headlights differ from the more familiar TD21 - they made this circa 63-67, and if the registration is original then this one isn't later than 1964. There is a back-street garage just up the road from this office which services old Alvises, and this is typical of the beauties that he has in... one of Coventry's finest cars.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...but that black 1960 Buick looks like an export model. Note the yellowish headlights. They don't look like sealed beams, but composite lights with yellow bulbs similar to pictures I've seen of home-market French cars.

You got it. I think it is an '82, Motor Trend's car of the year. They sure can pick 'em.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Jowett Jupiter looks like a cheap knock-off of a Jaguar.

Fuego makes me cringe. My dad almost bought me one when I was in high school. I didn't like it at all and talked him out of it.

I guess my instincts were pretty good.

Maybe they meant "Car That Might Last a Year"?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,494
Geez and when I was like 6, I actually liked the Fuego. I remember on one of my dad's Sunday car dealer visits (he was a bit of a CCB at the time), the dealer gave me a big stack of Renault posters and materials (probably because they were about to go out of business). I actually had a Fuego poster.

If those wheels don't say "80s", I don't know what does.
  • lemmerlemmer Member Posts: 2,689
I was sure the Fuego won a "Car of the Year" award, but I can't find it anywhere. The wonderful Renault Alliance did win in 1983. Maybe this is what I was thinking of. I know the Fuego at least got rave reviews.
  • fiatownerfiatowner Member Posts: 75
I had a 1.6 litre Fuego in about 1989, it was a nice car to drive, but a bit heavy on the fuel, and there were problems with the electrics, but that probably related to its age, as I was the third or fourth owner, but it was very smooth compared with my previous car which was an ancient Capri. I sold it after about eight months, but I used to see it running around for a couple of years, so at least it kept going!
Renault Alliance was what we knew as a 9 or 11, I think, but wasn't it marketed and even assembled by AMC? I used an 11 for a short while, but that was a company car, and not particularly memorable.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,486
the Alliance won MT COY award. The Fuego didn't do much of anything.

I almost bought one in 1985 (a family down the street had one). Thankfully I passed.

    Hey, I was 6

I also had a poster of a Renault 18, I must have had it up as well as I remember it pretty vividly.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
OK, then you get a free pass. My daughter is 6 and the most I can get her to do is point out convertibles.

When I was six I could readily identify Cadillacs and pointed them out whenever I sighted one. :P

They weren't all that common in 1949.

I liked all kinds of weird junk when I was that age...MG midgets, VW pickups, really anything small, with my fave of the time being the RX7.

I saw a really nice looking silver blue 80s Supra like that in traffic on my way over Snoqualmie Pass Sunday. It was moving right along.

Genuflect when you say "MG"....after all, a Midget is just a Miata with oil leaks and wet carpets.

That's probably by the time I was 10 or so I was really turning to 50s and 60s cars, with the exception of period (c.1987) MB

lets overlook the "production car" rule for a second...

Odd looking, I'll guess the Homer Mobile, given the driver. Looks like fins from a '59 Caddy

Powell Homer - the car for the average man! It plays "La Cucaracha" when you press the horn - several buttons placed strategically throughout the interior. Some things never go out of style - like tailfins! They forgot the raccoon tail on the antenna.
  • fiatownerfiatowner Member Posts: 75
I'm going out on a limb here, but this looks VW based to me, they made a local version in the late 60's in Australia called something like a Land Car and the proportions look similar although it looks newer than that - maybe Brazilian VW?.
It probably never won Car of the Year anywhere, what ever it is- or if it did I don't want to go there!
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,486
funny, I thought it looked like a Vdub kit car too.

Yeah it's a ringer but you've got the '67 Pontiac part right. It's a Parisienne (Canadian)
and there's likely a Chebbie powertrain under the Poncho bodywork.

'Course it's impossible to tell any of that from the photo. ;)

Yes they are Scouts. The white monstrosity is a rare VW country buggy derivative.
