I thought they only ever came with a six cylinder but the 282 name suggests an eight. I was not aware that Volvo ever used and eight cylinder in a road car.
I's a 1980 Volvo 262C Bertone Coupe which certainly presaged the chopped roof style of so many of today's cars. I wouldn't call it good-looking but for a Volvo of the 2-- Sewries it is kinda.
Yes that's the 1971 Lancia 2000 Berlina that the "Niki Lauda" character drives in Rush. At first I thought it was an Alfetta but then I caught the Lancia grille badge and thought it must be a Fulvia Berlina. I was wrong again, the Flavia Berlina was the direct ancestor of the 2000.
Rush is good enough to enjoy if you have little interest in racing. If you're into F1, it's a must.
My bad on the post caption, it is of course a still from the movie not TV.
Ford Comete Monte Carlo (22CV) - I have a model of one of these.
It started off as a Ford, and this version was introduced in 1953, but during the following year Ford France was taken over by Simca, so the last batch were made as Simcas.
My immediate thought was Facel something but that does not seem right as their first car was the Vega. However the lines look French but with something American about them.
That's right, it's a 1953 model and the coachwork is by Facel (pre-Vega). Most of these cars had a 2.5 liter (Ford de France) V8 but a few like the pictured car came with a 1.5 liter U.S. Ford 4 cylinder mostly used in F-100 pickups which put out a respectable 150hp.
Still very, very common here in Australia. This is a Toyota Landcruiser 55 station wagon from about 1967 right through to 1980. Wheels are after market.
Behind it as a 40 seriesfrom fairly late in production which stretched from 1960 to 1984 and behind that might be a current model FJ Cruiser. Current price for a used example would be about AUD10-20K with 14 advertised on carsales website.
All of them are seen every day on Australian roads. The older models seem virtually indestructible and many from the 1960s are still doing regular service in tough environments. They are a bit agricultural to drive, but amazing off road. The default vehicle in Outback Australia and often modified by 4WD nuts.
Not sure what it was sold as in the USA, but in Australia, it was sold as a Suzuki Swift or a Holden Barina. However, I think the Holden was a five door so more likely a Suzuki Swift. I presume it was some sort of GM, maybe Chevrolet or Pontiac which sold some Japanese made vehicles under their brands.
Given that we've established that the car in the background is a Pontiac van, I'll venture a guess that the car in the foreground is a Pontiac Firefly, a Canadian only version of the Swift.
Has to be early 60's, and I don't want to give away the city as I lived there for a while. The bus station is still in the same spot, but the Woodmen Tower hasn't been built yet.
If you can make out the state or the year on those plates your monitor is way better than mine. In any case the photo is of Omaha NE, 1962.
Apparently none of you read the small print at the bottom of my post because no one has called out the blue station wagon to the right of the Stude in the "Bigger" version. I believe it's a '55 Ford, low-ender.
Yup, that's a 1984 Isuzu Impulse, sold in other markets as the Isuzu Piazza. IIRC the sharp edged styling was done by Ital Design's Giorgetto Giugiaro.
This Jeep belonged to an uncle. Anyone have an idea of the year? I remember riding in the back of it when I was a kid in the late 50s. I think he modified it a bit over the years; the top looked a bit homemade as I recall.
According to Wikipedia CJ5s were built from 1954-83 so it'd be hard to pinpoint a year. The CJ5 replaced the CJ3B which had a taller looking grille and was followed by the CJ7 which had the same front styling but a longer wheelbase.
A guy I know acquired a '53 military Jeep M38A this summer, which makes Wrangler look huge.
had no idea the CJ-5 was built that long! I forgot that Kaiser kept making them after Willys was absorbed. Maybe those amber directional lenses give a clue?

Would have been more interesting with an 8, although in 1978, maybe not so hot

I saw one of these at Essen this year, too.

I'll pick off the Buick convertible in front of the Falcon, maybe a 54?
Gotta be a '61. My folks had a '60, and the 'Falcon' on the back end was in small script rather than block letters.

What's the first rig on the right in the Yellowstone pic by the way - the reddish one with the white top that's mostly out of the frame?
