Was this Maserati 3500 a Vignale, too? If it had quad headlights the resemblance would be even stronger:

  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
No that's not a Maserati Vignale. Looks like a 3500GT, I think by Touring (not sure). You can always be sure by putting a magnet to the car---if it sticks, it's a Vignale (except hood and trunk), if it falls off, it's a Superleggera by Touring. But in any event the Vignale convertible just looks different.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Surprised it brought $60K. Must have been a very very nice car!

As for # produced, I think the auction company is wrong about that (not the first time).
    robr2 said:

Yes a Flavia Vignale....only 640 made, although not outrageously valuable.

The only reason I knew is that I saw one in the October issue of Automobile this morning in the the Auction Results.

    1964 Lancia Flavia Convertible
    white over red
sold at $66,000 after undergoing a $100,000 restoration
    pre-auction estimates were $35-45,000.

According to the article, it was one of 1,601 Vignale built convertibles.

Here's the rear of the Lancia, with the very fancy nameplate:

I'm pretty sure you're right about that being a Touring Superleggera-bodied Maserati 3500GT. If you look carefully you can make out the "Superleggera" script on each side of the hood.

For those who are interested here's a look at the Vignale-bodied Spyder version of the 3500GT>

The 3500 Vignale Spyder is one of my favorite designs of the Carrozzeria era. I think I'd rather have one than a 250 GT California.

Very nice. I picked the one I posted because of the similar grille to the Lancia, and the straight fender line. The Lancia's proportions, while a good design, looks 'small' once I look at those two Maseratis. Completely different sizes, I know.

Yup, that's Janis Joplin's 1965 Porsche 356C Cabriolet, freshly repainted in it's famous psychedelic livery. Her family has put it up for auction this weekend. It should draw some impressive bids.

A Renault Dauphine and hey, I like that streetcar. In Chicago they were light green and kind of beige yellow and called CTA Green Hornets.

    G'day

I think that is a late 1970's Mitsubishi LB Lancer liftback (quite popular in Australia) on the left and a Alfa convertible on the right

    Cheers

That streetcar looks like it is from the 40s, were those still in service then, or was it out for some kind of ceremonial run?

Seeing how the Toronto metro area is a ground zero for property development and speculation, I bet that intersection looks different today/
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
The photograph was taken in the 1980s. I'm guessing the trolleys were still in service. There's a red car in the middle that was probably out of production by the time of the photo (IIRC they were mfd. in Canada).
    Surely someone can name it.

My sister had an early yellow Firebird (first year iirc). I remember driving it when I had my learner's permit at 14, and my cousin was a year older and had her license, so it was legal for me to drive it. But when I work on the dates, they are never right and I think the cruise with my cousin was more like in '68 or '69. But I should have gotten my license in '67. If family hadn't been visiting, I never would have gotten my hands on it; my sister was loathe to let anyone else drive her car.

    I'll go with 1967.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,446
Wow, surprisingly, that intersection looks largely the same. Even the old row houses in the background are still there.

But the downtown skyline has certainly changed over the years! Sometimes in big cities, neighborhood changes are more demographics than real estate and roads I think.

Apparently none of you recognize the rd car near the trolley crossing that intersection. It is a
(12-/13- Series) which are easily my favorite Volvos of all time. These were made from 56-70. Canadian models were built in Halifax NS.

    Here's a better look at one (a two-door version.)>

Isn't the Opel GT the one where the headlamps "rolled over" horizontally to expose the headlights?

I thought that was cool, as well.

I had a friend that owned an Opel GT. Fun car. But those rollover lights had a bad habit of freezing shut in winter. You had to get out and bang them to loosen them up.

I think you're right about the Taunus. Also, speaking of Yank tanks, it looks like the taxi at the right (relative to the front of the car) curb and hanging into the crosswalk is a '65 Valiant.

Jayne Mansfield, killed in a car wreck at age 34 while a passenger in a 1966 Buick Electra 225.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
The blonde is Diana Dors - she was a starlet in 50's British films and a regular in the tabloids thereafter. She died in the late 80's or so I think.

The car is a Delahaye - I'm guessing a 175 (?) and the coachwork is by Saoutchick, I think.

Sure. Blame the GM car. LOL

Whatta way to go: hitting a truck ahead of you which is enveloped in a fog of mosquitos spray from the spray truck in front of it.

Link about vehicle is near the bottom of the page.

Looking up to see if this was true about Ms Mansfield, I was shocked to find a nude photo of her on a Wiki page. Shocked, I tell you! :open_mouth:
