I was going to guess Vera Lynn, the only British person I know of. Famous for "We'll Meet Again."

Given Jayne Mansfield's upper body appendages, a Deuce and a Quarter seems kind of fitting I suppose!

It is indeed a Delahaye 175S with coachwork by Saotchik, perhaps the most flamboyant designer of the 40s and 50s. Speaking of flamboyant, the blonde is the curvaceous Briton, Diana Dors.

Your challenge is to find and ID the sole import barely visible in this sea of tailfins and chrome>

well, I see the little powder blue roadster back there, but I am not good enough to identify it by a single headlight in low-res.

    Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Yup that is a little Healey "Bug-eye" Sprite Mk.1. Where I grew up on LI these were quite the little fad around the end of the 1950s. A lot of kids got them cuz they cost about as much as a VW but were lots more fun. In the UK they were know as "Frog Eyes".

That baby blue hue was oddly popular on many sports roadsters of the day.

Stever, like the blue on that two tone Buick Roadmaster coupe; not so much the two tone color combo on the Dodge behind it.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,552
real obscure. May not qualify here, but I think it is cool.

looks like no one wanted to guess on the black sports car. That is a 1959 Bocar XP-5 (which to me sounds like something Speed racer would be driving!)

Very nice looking car, but it also looks like it should be lowered 3 inches or so.

  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Being a 4 dr, I'm assuming that was one of those stunt show cars rather than an outright race car? Those Hudson's did well on the track back in their days though. I recall several of the engineers in my old neighborhood growing up owned them, including buying used ones after the step in's went away.
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,403
Actually, the eyes are the give away. It's a tribute to the Cars movie. Don't remember the car's name.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,552
    Doc Hudson I think.

Yeah, that's right. It was Doc Hudson voiced by Paul Newman.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,769
I'm kind of surprised there was any hesitation or doubt. Shouldn't all car guys know that movie, regardless of kids? :)
I love it, even after seeing it a million times thanks to the little ones. And I'll have you know it came out before I had a child who could actually watch it (my first born was an infant at the time), and we still watched it. The wife and I are animation fans.

I figure some of you are really obsessive. Or just really old.

maybe because I never had an interest in 50's cars or early 60's. And had none in the family (we got a Volvo when I was 7, and my grandparents had a few of them before switching to VWs).

1970s AMC, now that I could nail!

Yeah... I've never had much interest in '50s cars. The earliest car I can remember from my immediate family was a '62 Pontiac, though my grandfather drove his '49 Ford until 1968.

Same here. Not much interest either. I remember my grandmother driving an early 60's Comet which got replaced by a '67 Monterey fastback coupe.

Yep Cisitalia 505 DF, 1953. It was based on the Fiat 1900 engine. Out of total production this is the only one on the road at this time.
