Yup that's a Ferrari 288GTO (184-87), harking back to the days when F-cars were beautiful as well as blindingly fast.

The two-tone next to it looks like a 250Europa/Boano but it could be a Superamerica.

His father, grandfather and great grandfather apparently owned lincolns before him.

It's a 1972 model Lincoln MK IV, and although that dashboard could make a baby jump out of his car seat, I have to say the car drove very nicely, as long as you didn't do anything radical, like turn left or right.

Those marks on the steering post were the only blemishes on the car. It was quite sanitary.

I always despised that ford steering wheel. One of my quirks I guess.

Continuous rubber rim on inside of steering wheel was the horn "button". Hard to find, if you drove another car. 460 V-8 was pretty sprightly for it's day.

Oh yeah, doubt any babies were in car seats in 1972.

You all beat me to the Mark. That one was easy, but I'm a land yacht junkie.  The Mark IV is my least favorite of the 70s.  The III and V are so much better looking.

I am still amused at how those Marks and T-Birds were so close. My mom had a T-Bird of that style when I was a little kid, and I still remember the cruise control rocker switches on the steering wheel - that and the 100 way power seats. The things that stick in memory 35 years later.

Lincoln became Ford so many years ago that I Wonder if it is even feasible to re-establish the brand as true luxury?

I think that 2nd Gen model started in 1986. Not sure how long it lasted (certainly until 1990). I was thisclose to buying a slightly used '89 convertible in 1990.

I think you're right .. my sister owned an '85 that she absolutely adored. I loved driving that car when I had the chance. Not terribly quick (only 100HP), but extremely nimble.

Blue Fiat 500 in front next to the light blue VW van? and middle row on the end, next to the bronze bug, an MB Ponton?

I am surprised by the lack of fintails in that pic, especially given its proximity to Stuttgart, although it might just predate the car. I think there might be a fintail, off-white, in the back row towards the left, but it could be something else. There's another Ponton in the background at right, in front of what might be a yellow Opel.

Oddity in the pic appears to be a BMW (or possibly EMW) cabrio, between the blue Beetle with the large sunroof and two tone Opel Rekord, in front of the Fiat 500.

  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
I'll take two of the cars further back. Beyond the BMW/EMW the blue car with the central spotlight above the grille is a Ford 12M - the version introduced in 1952, but they made that version as the basic car for a few years.
Behind that, the smaller blue and cream car is a Goggomobil 600 or 700 Isar. They made those fro 1957 and presumably as this must be abut 1961 the car is more likely to be the 600.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Looks like a couple of DKWs, one next to Bronze VW, another over the head of the woman on the right.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Behind the old BMW (327/328?) Cabrio is a light blue sedan w an odd bulge to the nose. I thought it might be a Borgward or a Glas of some kind but I couldn't find a match for it. Anyone got a good guess?

    2001 BMW 330ci/E46, 2008 BMW 335i conv/E93

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,419
The car with the nose is the one magnette identified, I think, the early 50s style Ford 12M.

The grey estate car to the left of the Fiat is an Opel Olympia Caravan.
In the far distance to the other side of the central road is a smaller car with fins and a brownish stripe and roof - that is a DKW Junior. Next to it is a VW (mud coloured) and on the far side of that is a cream car which I think is a Borgward Isabella.

Fiat Multipla 600, 1960-ish? That interior spare had me going...
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Good eye, that's a 1965 Fiat 600 Multipla, the original minivan and it really was mini (built on a stretched Fiat 500/600 Chassis)

Saw one on a driveway a couple of years ago not far from me. Never have seen it on the road. Too bad.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Still on the station forecourt, there is a grey BMW 700 it's on the second row just above the blue VW van.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,419
I think the dark car to the left of the maybe-fintail in the back row, left side, is a Ponton.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
This one is from the 1965-66 TV show Honey West in which actress Anne Francis portrayed the title character, the first Female private eye ever to be featured on a TV series. She also had perhaps the coolest ride of any TV character ever >

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
There are some slight differences between the 260 CID Cobra and the later 289s. Honey's 1964 Shelby Cobra/289 has the small side vents and extra grille protectors which the 260 version (1962-3) did not have.

Bonus points if you can ID the movie - it's one I fondly remember from when I was a kid, just saw it again a couple weeks ago, it was still amusing.

License to Drive is the movie. That was grandpa's caddy ('72 DeVille) that they proceeded to destroy while grandpa took the father's BMW on his trip and proceeded to destroy that. I don't recall the BMW, but I'd guess it was a late '80s 5-series.

The red car is a late '70s Plymouth Arrow.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,419
Yep that's the movie, I was surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did. Cheesy 80s stuff, but fun.

Yep, bustleback in the background. The 72 (maybe not the same car, I read several were used, this one looks like it just received a quick paint job for the movie) ends up looking the worse for wear at the end:

Here's another good one for spotting, showing the wonderful diversity of a now-vintage California street scene:

    That's a 2nd gen, though..

Heading away, I see an Accord hatch.. '80-'81, I think, and what looks like an '82 Accord hatch in front of it.. And, maybe a BMW 320i in front of that.

nice Duster on the left. Looks like same vintage of the one I had in HS.

far right in front of the early Accord, a Citation, 2 over on the curb a Stanza, I think some sort of Nissan in between them (or maybe a gen 2 Accord), and a BMW 320i in front of them.

The yellow PU looks like a Toyata hi Lux

kyfdx - you're right, I looked too quickly! For whatever reason I forget about that version during the Cutlass heydays and jump to the downsized one that followed in 78. I like the 70-72 best, although I owned a 79.
