You could order them as optional equipment on any model. Unfortunately in this photo we can't see any of the "sure" identifiers. A "C" would almost certainly have the flat hubcaps and wider wheels.

AFAIK you're correct, the raised section in the hubcap is the "tell" for the 356B model. This one is a 1963 Porsche 356B Super 90.

I don't think the B wheels would fit on the C because of the disc brakes on the C.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,740

I don't think the B wheels would fit on the C because of the disc brakes on the C.

That's what they say. I just would not be the least bit surprised if there were an aftermarket solution for those wanting the raised hubcaps on their C.

To each his own on that. I don't find them very attractive. I guess they're trying to mimic the famous Rudge wheels.

Fiat X1/9. Or later Bertone version? I think they had one of those too.

    bumpers and wheels not standard.

I always liked the Fuchs wheels on the 914.

    Bug, Bug, Roach.

(Rarely saw them growing up, but we called any Citroën a roach (or a catfish). Never saw the real "roach van" they made.)

Interesting that the bowler biker's bike has a dérailleur. They started becoming commercially successful around 1950.

Ah the Place de la Concorde, the site of some real history. Looking at the product mix, we can see the French were as nationalistic as any buyers of the era.

Under the obelisk, possibly parked, I see a ~1950 Chevy sedan. I also notice the Beetle in the foreground is a split window. I think I also see another American car at far left, I'll leave it and the rest for others.

The dark coupe ahead of that Chevrolet either parked or going from right to left in the background looks like a Talbot Lago Grand Sport which they were still making until the mid 50's. Any there were would presumably have been in Paris or on the Riviera - never saw one myself until I started going to European car shows..
And the dark car behind the light Peugeot 403 is a Ford Vedette.
Also I can see what I think is a German Ford Taunus 12M on the extreme right of the picture just leaving the shot.

Spotted this obscure bit of a trucklet. No idea what it was before the run-in with the sabre saw.

I'm wondering if it's one of those mini-utes up from Mexico that is in the process of getting, um ... well, I'm not really sure what's going on.

It sort of looks like the B pillar was cut, but I didn't have a good angle on it. Not legal without the doors I bet but it looks like a work in progress, and it was a nice day for a Sunday drive, so who cares.

Actually you're exactly right! It's a 1965 Willys Interlagos, a licensed copy of the Alpine- Renault A108 powered by an 845 cc Renault four (from a Dauphine).

Even a blind pig finds an acorn, every once in awhile. The signage with the car said it's one of only two in the USA (or something along those lines... I looked at a lot of cars).

Man.. if I'd only remembered the Interlagos part. :p

No takers on that Coupe, other than a critique of the stylist (who doesn't normally get that!)?

That's a 1947 Healey Elliot Saloon. I think it had a Riley 2.4L engine but not quite sure.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,389
1948 but close enough. Correct on the engine.

I know the old Packards had rear wheels with more spokes than the front wheels.
    I'll put 2 chips on a Packard.

Packard is one of the few from that time I can ID. They all have a stepped hood/radiator shell, and I don't see that on the mystery pic.

The head bolt pattern shouts GM.
    Pontiac?

Did everyone click on the pic and blow it up to see the writing on the engine block?

    That will buff out

Actually I didn't expect anyone to get it but after examining the wreckage pretty closely, it is a Pontiac from the 1940s. More than that would be hard to say. (Stever, please send one Gold Start to lostwrench for that guess).

Apparently it was pushed (or fell) off a ridge road on Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County California. The road is way way up from the car, so it plunged a fair distance. Probably happened decades ago, of course.

but those are highway miles... :D

I thought it might have been listed on Craig'sList.
Folks say there's a lot of junk for sale on there. LOL

Reminds me a little of an accident I saw during my high school
years. A Chrysler/Desoto of about 1950-52 era has hit a concrete
bridge abutment--solid concrete. The body of the car went down
into the creek and the chassis bounced backwards about 100 feet.
