These were wonderful cars in their day. So well made.

So who is gonna say what these two old timers are>

Hint: they are part of the lineup of the first production cars with V6 engines.

Thanks Fin. Those are both Lancia Aurelias. The 2-door (Berlinetta) is a mid-50s Aurelia B20. The sedan (Berlinetta) is an earlier Aurelia B10 or B12.

Well kinda, it's the current model Honda S660. Apparently there was some consideration to exporting it to the US as a replacement for the Honda S2000 but they thought it might be too small. I'm not sure about that because plenty of Miatas and FRS/BRZ sports are selling and Mini will probably enter the market with their revised Roadster (I forgot the name).

It's unclear to me if Honda has any plans for a US market sports car (they just killed the CRZ)

The CRZ was a sports car? That explains the poor gas mileage on a hybrid. A coworker had one and couldn't get above 30 mpg.

Every time I see a CRZ, I question how they thought it was a proper homage to the CRX.

    Here we are!

So the Edsel is the year of the picture? It's a 58 or later. Couple 57's in there, Chevrolets.

    Canadian side of the falls?

I think I can ID the furrin cars - cabrio at left looks like a Hillman Minx, small car backed in with a luggage rack on the roof appears to be a Renault Dauphine, and the 1940s looking car next to the Edsel appears to be an early 50s Ford (UK) Prefect.

Looks like the American side to me, like downstream a bit from the horseshoe shaped one, before you cross over to the island.

    1953 Chrysler New Yorker...............

The photo is of part of the Niagara Falls complex. The cars are parked on the New York side but obviously several are Canadian models or imports rarely seen in the USA. Yes, the Edsel is a 1958 and appears to be the newest car in the shot. The oddball next to the '57 Chevy (2dr) on the right is likely the oldest but what the heck is it?

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Canada bought a lot more odd UK imports during that era, so I guessed it was the Canadian side. Close enough :)

The oddball between the Edsel and 57 Chevy appears to be a ~1950 British Ford Prefect.

The Edsel is a 58. Taillights were different each model year.

I didn't remember that and didn't have time ti research--thanks.
What is the car between the '57 Chev red convertible and the Renault Dauphin with roof racks? '53 Chev?

I can only distinguish the 53 and 54 Chevy by the round or oval parking lights up front. I miss Lemko for this stuff!

    Yes, '53 Chevy.
Interesting is the car on the left of the red Chevy. The front end chrome matches the Canadian built 1954 Pontiac yet the car appears to be older than a '54.

  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
That grey car between the red Chevy and the Hillman looks like a Ford of some sort to me, and the grille reminds me of the 52/54 Ford Vedette made in France.

However that had a single piece windscreen.

Is this some sort of Canada only Monarch or Meteor based on about a 1950 Ford body shell?

    Bingo! It's a 1950 Meteor, essentially a 1950 Ford w different trim.

That's the consensus at Hemmings but some think it could be one of those London cabs that somehow made it across the ocean. I'm inclined to think it's a Prefect, a 1930's design that lasted into the early 50s, which was typical of Brit cars of that era.

It's hard sometimes with Studebaker. They'd use parts from one model and paste them onto another.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Earlier model Studebaker Lark. Maybe around a 60?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
It's a 1960 Studebaker Lark/V8 wearing aftermarket wheels. V8 equipped Larks are said to be the fastest of that first generation of compact cars introduced in 1960.

Did some early Studebaker Larks come out as 59's? I know it beat the Big 3 (but not AMC) to the compact market, but not sure by how much?

Yup, the Lark came out in '59. One year before the Big 3 compacts hit.

I actually saw one with similar markings going down the street this PM. I couldn't believe there were any left in running condition.
