We used to call this model "The Flying Enchilada".

I assume you're referring to the Citroen, not the Valiant. ;)

No, the Valiant. Kinda flat with the top down. With a white top--that could be the sour cream. :D

Hmmm, but it has the Barracuda grille.
    Option?

    Barracuda was my first guess

But no Barracuda convertibles of that generation.
  • lostwrench1lostwrench1 Member Posts: 1,165
    Ahaa!
    It's a Valiant Acapulco.
    Made and sold in Mexico.

The Barracuda grille was an eye catcher.
I researched if it was an available option and found the Valiant Acapulco which I didn't know existed.

    57 Mercury Voyager?

    I think it's a Turnpike Cruiser

    Edit-you're right, it's a Voyager.

I am conflicted, but I think tmart is right. It has a Turnpike Cruiser (or Colony Park wagon) front end, but to the best of my knowledge the Colony Park only came as a four-door, and it had plood siding.

I think Mercury was one of the few, and one the last, to produce a 2dr HT wagon. I believe they made them through 1960. As for the pic, wouldn't a Turnpike Cruiser have those spaceship antenna's hanging out from the corners of the windshield as well?
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,675
I wonder if that's a Canadian model. The pictures of 57's with that grill and bumper don't use those wheel covers AND they don't have the Voyager in script behind the front wheel on the fender. 58 models have a different grill.

The ad for that Merc wagon listed it as a 1957 Mercury Voyager. There was nothing about any Canadian content or anything about a Turnpike Cruiser spec.

FWIW here is a link to bringatrailer.com/2016/07/22/hardtop-estate-1957-mercury-voyager-two-door/the ad.

That one looks to be a pretty clean car. Bidding is up to $21K or so, which is about market correct for a strong #2 car.

I did a little more research, and apparently they put that front end on many if not all wagons sold in markets where quad headlights were already legal. You learn something new every day.

Dodge Colt wagon, 1975-ish? Never saw one before.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,419
That's it, a Colt, year unknown but likely 75-76. Spotted yesterday parked on the street about 30 miles from here (I didn't take the pic). A real unicorn, maybe approaching sole survivor status, at least in roadworthy condidion. Even here, it's been ages since I saw one of that generation , I was shocked to see the pic.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Heck, I didn't even know there was a Dodge Colt wagon. Took a long shot on Opel just because it looked very squarish. I'm thinking that maybe I can see a bit of Volare/Aspen in that wagon from the rear quarter view though. So is it me or the Mitsu Dodge blowing the smoke B)
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,419
There was an angular 80s era Colt wagon sold here too - hardly see them anymore, but if one is still on the road, it is probably within 20 miles of me. And then of course there was the Colt Vista (my dad wanted one back in the day). And some of those cars did have an oil burning rep, didn't they?

Funky weird sometimes-malaise Japanese cars are the next thing, already gaining in popularity - someone would fight for that wagon.

I worked with someone who had one of those 80s Colt wagons. In a strange way, the shape appealed to me. She traded it in on a late 80's Accord LX-I (the one with the pop up headlights).

I think old Japanese iron has been sort of hot in SoCal for awhile, but now is catching on to a broader audience.

This is a Peugeot 404 Coupe - Pininfarina of course ( as was the saloon on which it is based). They made these from about 1962 to 68 when the 504 Coupe replaced it. Also a Cabriolet version at the same time.

Hillman Husky. I've always liked those, and other Hillman cars of the era, the styling is somehow appealing.

I'm surprised those weren't sold in the UK, probably too expensive to make a RHD version.

Yes, this Husky is the Mk III - the last of the front engined ones from about 1963 / 4. Later the final Husky was based on the rear engined Hillman Imp..

Wagon ("break") based on a Simca Ariane (or Vedette)? I am sure it had an individual model name, but I don't know what it might be.

Yes Fin, it's the Simca Vedette Marly, this is from the 1956 brochure and they made them to about 1960...

One of those prewar looking cars from the early postwar years. Maybe a Talbot-Lago?
