It would be fun to have all of the supposed meanings. My understanding is that by '67 when it had the 400 c.i. engine and an available automatic it was interpreted as 4=400 c.i., 4=4 barrel carb, 2= dual exhaust
Now that my memory has been refreshed I'm pretty sure you're right about all of them. Oh well I remembered one out of 3 correctly.

Well, if you are talking about 1964, the first year of the 442, you got two out of three. That year the engine was 330 c.i., so the first '4' did indeed stand for Four on the floor.

Circled car looks like a Peugeot 202, which existed prewar and postwar, I don't know how to tell them apart.
Car in the foreground is a VELAM Isetta, pretty rare I think, French built.
Yup the Pug 202 was a prewar design from the late 30s that continued in production after 1945. The caption says it's a 1948 MY car, I don't know how you tell either.
I never heard of the Velam Isetta but it does say so right on the hood...er front door.
You know it might be but this shot looks like it's from way before 1964 when the 911/901 was introduced. The car in front of the 202 is of course a Citroen 2CV.
I can't make up my mind whether the dark circle in the rear window of the Velam is a sucker on it's rear window or protrusion on the bonnet / hood on the mystery car behind. If the latter it could be a Ford Taunus 12M - but not that common in 50s France. It looks too high to be a 901/911 to me.
Other car to left is a Renault Dauphine.
The 202 could be either pre or post war I think, but I can't find any pictures of prewar ones with that chrome strip below the doors.

Doh, forgot to mention the Dauphine (France's answer to the VW Beetle which it outsold in the US for perhaps a year (1959 IIRC?)
I recall seeing a comment on IMCDB that the rear fender guard was added postwar to the 202.

With a Dauphine we know the pic is '56 or later, and the hood line on the mystery car doesn't match the Taunus. Plenty of old cars driving around in the early '60s, remember. Given how tiny an Isetta is, I imagine most cars would look high, 911 included!
"Alfetta sedans are among the most difficult of this Italian breed to buy. That’s because they depreciated quickly and have been worth so little for so long that most owners just called the scrap merchant once rust got beyond manageable levels. The couple we found for sale recently were in ordinary shape; the best of them available for $5000. "
The GTV6 had one of the sweetest sounding engines ever made. A colleague had one in the mid 1980s and lavished lots of tender loving care upon it, except on track days, when it was thrashed hard. I oftend wondered what became of it. Rust is less of a problem in Australia, so it might have survived, especially if garaged
I prefer that 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso - Ferrari was something different then. Car in the foreground is an early 50s model, not a 250 series but something before like a 212 or 340. Not sure about the two tone one either, 1956 or so.

The car in the foreground is a rare 1952 Ferrari 340 America, beyond as you've noted is a '63/4 250GT Berlinetta Lusso, perhaps the most beautiful Ferrari ever.
The two-tone past the Lusso looks like a Fiat 8V. 8Vs were done by nearly every Italian coachbuilder so they all looked a little different. The nearest match I could find was a 1952 with a Vignale body.
This car has two tones and an American style wrap-around windscreen but lacks the side grille of the car seen w the Ferraris.
If you want to buy it, here's the ad. $9,500 in San Diego and comes with lots of extra goodies.
Ewww....you don't want that car.
Well, at least not the 4-cyl version. I'd still like a V6. I mean, for a little while. A loaner. haha.
It's a hard car to "get right"----there's always something that is on the way out. It's one of those cars that you have to tear to pieces to make it right.
I think the film from which this still is taken was A Bout De Souffle by Jean-Luc Godard which was marketed as Breathless in English speaking countries. It came out in 1960.
Good guesses gentlemen but remember sports and GT cars of the 50s and 60s wore many suits (i.e. bodies by different coachbuilders) and sometimes looked completely different from others of the same make/model. This one has a Zagato body and despite the racing livery is based on a street model that wore bodywork by multiple carrozzerias.
Looks like youse need some hints. The Modena plate means nothing, it isn't a Ferrari or Maserati of some kind. If you go back a few posts you'll see examples of the same make model w different coachwork.
