Lancia Beta, no doubt a fun ownership experience.

Lostwrench, I was thinking Chevy but thought too much chrome. Yet didn't look Pontiac. You know your stuff and don't let assumptions mess you up!

Fiat's notorious humiliation of the glorious name of Lancia.

Here's a fun photo. For those of you who are extra sharp-eyed today, you'll find an interesting story within the license plate as well.

Very good you guys. Not only did Lostwrench observe something I didn't even notice (and perhaps no one else in the world would notice( :p But Fin got the "A-H" notation in the license plate, which stands for: "Amerikanisch Hessen" or American occupation zone Hesse.

I'd guess the shot is around 1951, and it sure looks like Nice to me. The scenery there in 1951 would sure have looked a lot different from the scenery in Berlin in 1951.

You're in the ballpark but off a few years. It is an anniversary model but in addition to the year-name, it also has a person-name.

45th anniversary. Iacocca somehow tied to it.

Wonder if anyone cares enough to pay extra for one.

Nope, it's a Willys Jeep CJ3B. According to this web site most of the difference between the -3A and the -3B was under the hood. The CJ-3B was produced for a decade between 1953-64.

Yes, it is a '56 Ford Parklane, a vehicle I'd forgotten about. I assume it was above the Two-dr Ranch Wagon but perhaps on a par w the Country Squire, in effect a 2-dr Country Squire(?). Wikipedia sez it was intended to compete w the Chevy Nomad :o

Yes those Kelsey-Hayes wires were expensive (and heavy) as well as rust-prone and pretty rare back in the day but show up a lot on restored cars. They usually show up on things like Chysler 300s, T-Birds and Skylarks.

The "Park Lane" name went to the top-line Mercury from '58 to '68.

FWIW the Ford wagons were one word "Parklanes" but the big Mercs were two words "Park Lanes."

The geniuses of automobile marketing know no limits! :)

Seems like Cadillac has been trying too hard to create a 'performance' image. That wagon wasn't very 'wagon-y', but the sporty car fans were supposed to want that type of thing. Don't think they sold many...

OK, do this backwards. I saw a car, someone needs to find it. At a little lot where they also had classics (a rusty 58 Chevy was parked there), they had a black 4 door. Not stock wheels or rear springs. But I can't figure out what it was. Front end I swear looked like a late 50s chevy, and almost positive it had a chevy logo. But the rear end and back doors looked like a early 60s Studebaker. Big fins and kinda narrow butt. Bugging me. I should have tried for a picture through the rain.

Well you stumbled right into it, that's an original 1967 Giulia Super Berlina, a particular favorite of mine from its days as the favored ride of Carbinieri and Polizia in the movies>

Around the same time, my dad also wanted to pick up a Pinto "Cruisin Wagon". I think the "no" was more emphatic. She wasn't thrilled when we pushed home that 60 Ford wagon either B)

Check out the '56 and '57 Studebaker Champions. They had lower fins.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,530
Did some poking. Kinda looks like a 58 President, but the fins I think were much bigger. Like a 58 Silver Hawk. Very pronounced.

I really should have taken a picture of it!

58 Packard was very similar in the rear, but had an extra set of small fins on top of the main ones making it look taller. When you speak of high fins, could it have been a Packard instead of a Studebaker?
