That's a '57 Packard Clipper. The '58 won the Finny Championship, it had no less than four!

What a sad end for a once great marque.

could be a 57 clipper town sedan. I haven't found a good profile shot yet, but very close.

Well, it kind of has that Honda Odyssey body shop add on look to its rear end

    RE.: That Caddy wagon--

Before I read your statement, berri, I immediately thought of those first Accord wagons when I saw the Cadillac. The wagons look like they have the same rear doors as the sedans; looks like just a roof extension over the sedan's decklid, LOL.

Ouch, I guess that's an Aston-Martin Lagonda Estate/Shooting Brake from the late 80s. I found one on Wikipedia but it doesn't have the same D post.>

Wiki says only one was made, hopefully that's true of yours as well.

That '58 Packard looks OK to me in most ways...except those dreadful double fins. I like the low beltline and trim proportions (not a plus in the market then though, admittedly).

My observation is that, condition-for-condition, those "Packardbakers" seem to bring more on eBay than the '56 and earlier fifties Packards, excluding the very top-line Packards like Four Hundred, Patrician, and of course, Caribbean.

I could like a '57 Packard Country Sedan (wagon)--supercharger with 3-speed and overdrive.

That black '57 Packard Clipper sedan with the Vermont plates a few posts above--I am nearly certain that I saw that very car at a meet probably twenty years ago. The scuttlebutt at that particular meet, unconfirmed, was that at a recent Packard national, the car was so authentically restored that there was discussion among judges that it should receive the 'Best of Show' award but Packard traditionalists there vetoed that. I would only say that the car does say "Packard" on title and registration.

    Yup, that's a 1960 Chevrolet making a left turn, I think it's a taxi and it's most definitely a lower line car (2 t/ls each side) so a Biscayne or 210.

It may be the newest car in the pic.

Maybe a 58 Mercury convertible between the two Mopars? Don't see many of those 60 Chrysler 4 dr HT's. I don't think it is the last of the Desoto's because I think they had heavier trim at the top of the grill?

Sure looks like a '58 Merc but don't forget this was Canada back when there were lots of oddball Canada-only models. It could be a Meteor Rideau or a Monarch Montcalm. They even had Mercury branded pickups.

Little help any Canadians out there?

    Biscayne or 210.

No Two-Ten after '57; either a Biscayne or Bel Air.

In hindsight, I chuckle at Chevy's marketing/design/planning back then. You knew you were behind a cheaper model as soon as you pulled up behind it, due to the two light/three light hierarchy, LOL.

I recall when the Bel Air was introduced (in '53?) as the new Top-of-the line Chevrolet. it seemed as if they demoted it every other year and by the late 50s it was the low end stripper Chevy.

Through '72, it was one above the Biscayne, but to me eyes, the Biscayne and Bel Air were pretty close and there was a BIG difference between the Bel Air and moving one level up to Impala!

Of course, from '50 to '52, "Bel Air" just meant the two-door hardtop body style.

Then there was the Del Ray. I think that started as an upgrade interior option but became a stripper model for a few years starting around 58.

Yep, the Delray was an interior upgrade for the Two-Ten two-door sedan from '55 to '57, but was the bottom-line series for '58 only.

Another Chevy, 1958 only, was the Yeoman.
  • uplanderguyuplanderguy Member Posts: 16,907
That was a bottom-line two-door station wagon IIRC.

"Yeoman" has to rank with the oddest names for US cars.
  • uplanderguyuplanderguy Member Posts: 16,907
I see that the Yeoman was also available as a four-door wagon.

First car of my grandparents' I can remember was a two-tone green '58 Brookwood wagon--one level up from the Yeoman. I can remember when they traded for a new '63 Bel Air wagon.

They were popular cars, but I always wondered where the name "Duster" came from.

Of course the meaning has changed in the interim, but Ford "Mainline" makes me cringe a bit.

Well I haven't figured out how to tell a '61 from a '62 but you can tell it's a Special, it sez so right on the fender. The boys @HMN seem to think this is a 1961 MY.
