What were the chances that while I was typing a reply to a message from a month ago, with one Volvo, and a tank in the background, that you would post another without? This is Volvo 265 I think, but they do look similar, and its US spec, so probably a different model name over there. Circa 1988?

When I see these I always think of Emma Peel - the Avengers TV show....

Me too! The divine Mrs. Peel of course drove a DHC Elan S4 with those odd fixed window frames.

Of course you remember what John Steed drove :P ?

In any case the Volvo is not a 265 and you're a bit off on the year as well.

Is it a Volvo 240 wagon, from 1990?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
    Yep it's a Volvo 240, a '93 actually, supposedly one of 1000 "240 Classics".

Fiat 130, ca. 1971, Fiat's period highline car

Strong MB W108 influence in that greenhouse

Interesting when you consider how Volvo has gone from making boxy sedans and wagons to sleek, sporty cars within just 10 years. Just look at the new C70, upcoming S80 and C30.

Sleek and sporty? Compared to what they used to make, okay... But, not in comparison with the rest of the car universe.. Still.. awfully conservative..

1993 Volvo 240 Classic. One of a handful made to commemorate the end of 240 Production.

The Yellow car is an Elan S2 I believe and the Maroon one is a Lagonda Rapide.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Brentwood as previously mentioned the FHC Elan was an S4.

ca. 1950 Chevy fastback...my dad would drool over that

I remember when I was a kid looking at one like that, it was immaculate black with a spotless grey mohair interior...the seller wanted like $2900 for it, but somehow my dad passed on it.

Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe Sport Coupe, 1950 ?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670

That's what I mean, compared to before. Yeah sure, I know they're conservative with their styling compared to BMW, Infiniti and Acura. Still, I like Volvos for looking classy because they aren't overstyled like some other cars.

    Toyota Cressida?
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Packard Custom Eight 1949 - was that hood ornament supposed to be a pelican? It looks enormous!
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
I'd go with Toyota Cressida, too, 1981-84, this one looks a bit different from the Euro model - I suppose it was the larger bumpers.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,462
Yep the Packard ornament is a pelican, and the Cressida is a 85-88 NA spec model, with a very clean looking 94-95 Accord in the background

Not bad for a Brit, it's a '48 Super Eight.

Certainly a Toyota of some kind from the early 70s, screams "Aussie Ute" to me.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Toyota Crown, 1967-71, was the sedan from which this was derived, but I've never seen a pick-up version illustrated, so I don't know if it was Oz only or Japan also. They certainly made other sedan based pick-ups for home market though so maybe this was domestic.

Do they still sell many small pickups in Japan? Tacos and such?

I think 4935 is a Hyundai Trajet, if my memory of reading "CAR" has held up.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
I dunno if the Toyo Crown p'up was Aussie or not, I suspect it was.

Early 50s DeSoto Suburban (well, the earlier ones were the Suburban)
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
    fintail's right 4915 is a 1986 Toyota Cressida.

4935 is not a Trajet, it's a Hyundai Matrix. I think I posted that one some time before.

'50 DeSoto Suburban is correct, these were used mainly as Airport limos, note luggage rack on the roof.
