Are you subtracting the $1235? If so, you shouldn't. That isn't a CAP cost reduction, if it's going to pay for items that aren't included in the CAP cost.

    On the "S", $194/mo
    on the SE, $279/mo

It doesn't make any sense why there is a $3200 drop on the S, but only $1900 on the SE
But, at least the SE payment is close.
On the S, if the rest of the numbers are right, then they are marking up the money factor the max. (.00126)

I told the dealer I wanted to pay taxes and fees up front, they came up with the $1235 number. I'm waiting on the adj cap cost from them. I don't know why MF would be .00126 on the S, should be tier 1.

Acquisition is rolled into payment, dealer said they "don't know what I mean by adjusted cap cost"??
Maybe they are wondering if I know what this means?? Could you define?

Adjusted cap cost = negotiated selling price + taxes, fees you are not paying up front - cap reduction (down payment)

Sorry not following you guys on the CAP cost reduction, can you explain it to me like I'm 5yrs old :)
If I put $1235 down towards fees, taxes, or down payment, I don't understand why that matters.
  • jeffross1jeffross1 Member Posts: 14
Ooooooookk, so the dealer has been actually giving me the adjusted cap cost (what I was calling the cap cost).
    Apologies for the may submissions.

Hi guys. Thank you for running such an informative forum!!

I'm in Chicago (which means lots of taxes, especially on leases) and had several VW dealers send me their best offer for a Jetta SE lease. Below are the top 2 offers and was wondering if they are good deals.

    OFFER 1. 36/12,000. $285/month with $0 down; $226/month with $1,924 down.

    MSRP: $23,215
    Sales Price: $19,245
    Fees: Gov $236; Doc $172.15; Acquisition $625
    Gross Cap Cost: $19,870

OFFER 2. 36/15,000. $301/month with $495 down. That was all the information they gave.

    Are these fair deals?

Almost all of the offers for a Jetta SE 36/15,000 that I received came out to effective monthly payment of $300-$310.

The total tax if you are in Chicago runs $40-$50 per month on those deals. Given that amount of tax, those look like reasonable payments.

    VW numbers are national.

Same numbers for S and SE (and Sport, and SEL and SEL Premium)

Appears 2017 Jetta lease incentive has gone away? Not seeing anything on VW's website... it's quoting me $326/mo for 17 SE 6m, 36/15k, $2k down.

    17' Jetta SE auto
    $23375 msrp
    $5500 off
    $2797.50 (acquisition, GATAVT, registration)
    $19172.50 sales price

    $1000 down = $233/mo
    $1500 down = $219/mo

I feel better about these number, could you guys please check?
Any comment on the payment, good deal??

Also, does it matter how I have apply my down payment, I'm still not quite clear on that...

What lease term and miles per year on this?

I'm confused, though - $5500 off the MSRP you supplied is $17,875. How does the dealer get to the $19,172.50 sales price? If I add the fees and taxes, that equals $20,672.50

Oh - the $1500 down they quote. Got it.

Do you know the specific amount of the registration? We suggest only paying that amount and the first payment up front (gotta be less than $1000). Your payment will go up a little bit, but you won't be risking the money.

    10k/36mo
    Reg=$743
    Aqui=$625
    Tax=$1429.50!! (thank you GA)

    So basically $1000 (743+233) down.

Thought on the overall deal? I always think there's room to squeeze but also don't want to be abrasive.

Deal looks good, given that GA tax bite.

I'm paying $226/mo for my Jetta SE, for comparison.

    Thanks! I appreciate your help.

One follow up question, do lease terms typically spell out lease equity? It's likely we return the Jetta with only 18-20K miles after 36 months.

Sure.. you have no equity interest, unless you purchase the vehicle at lease end.

OK, well that clears up that.

For some reason I thought if the actual value of the car at lease termination was greater than the residual, that difference in equity could be use to negotiate your next lease? If not, then we will do our best to use the 30k miles.

Thanks again for all your help, going to sign and pickup this morning.

I'm in the same boat - I'm coming up on my first year with my Jetta. Allowed 12,000 miles per year, currently have 5400 on the odometer.

You don't have equity, unless you trade it in before lease expiration, and it's worth more than the residual. No credit for unused miles from VW.

Thanks for all of the help you provide. I'm in Tucson AZ and am looking to see if the pricing I'm being offered by dealers is fair. The terms are based off of a 36 month/ 15,000 mile lease and at the "B tier" for financing. From my calculations this seems to be a fair deal, but I am very much an amateur at this which is making me question it.

    17' Jetta S automatic
    $20,170 MSRP
    $3,540 Preferred Customer Discount
    $1,000 Rebate
    $15,630 Subtotal

    $740.82 Fees
    $1,430.18 Tax
    $17,801 Total Price

    $2000 down at signing = $176/mo including all tax/fees

States residual is $9,278 at end of lease.

AZ taxes the monthly payment on a lease, so the tax amount is for informational purposes only.

Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost, and how they got there from the selling price.

    .00001 and 46%, $1250 lease cash; .00031 MF for tier 3

Also, we suggest only the first payment and registrations costs be paid at signing.

    Hi guys -

Thanks for such a great resource! I'm looking at leasing a 2017 Jetta SE, 10k/36mo, tier 2 mf, turning in my current 2014 Passat S that's about 2k miles over the limit (traveled more than expected over the past 3 years). Finding a couple Jetta SE's that are quite inexpensive due to overstock and timing of new models.

    Option 1 Jetta SE Manual:

    MSRP 22,275
    Total Before Tax 14,875

    Option 2 Jetta SE Auto:

    MSRP: 23,375
    Total Before Tax 16,875

    Option 3 Jetta SEL Auto:

    MSRP: 26,375
    Total Before Tax 20,375

    My questions:

    1. Seems like the first deal is a bit better (seems like they bought too many manuals, there are 3 of these on the lot), but are the residual values drastically lower for those than the other two?

    2. What would I be looking at for final monthly amounts for these (or with the residual %'s, I could check myself along with my state tax/registration for GA)?

    3. What kind of additional incentive could I receive (if any) for my Passat turn-in? Seems like the dealerships want that.

    Thank you!

SE and SEL have the same numbers - .00001 and 49%, $1250 lease cash

Transmission type does not change the numbers, but likely to change the amount of discounting available. Seems like nobody wants to drive a stick shift any more.

Therefore, the SE manual will result in the lowest payment.

No information about loyalty incentives for your Passat.

This site provides fantastic service. I've gone from knowing nothing about leasing to not feeling like a fool.
I'm in northern Virginia and have found that some local dealers have an overstock of VW, especially manual.
I found several GLI that are priced (on the internet) at 20,000, +/- a couple hundred. The MSRP is 29,275

What is the MF and RV for 24/10 and 36/10? I have tier 1 credit rating. The way I calculate the lease, for the 36 months, the payment would be under $160. Also, is it typical that the dealer's advertised price is applicable for leases?

    thanks in advance

Your last statement is the key - those advertised prices are likely for purchase only, and will be different (read: higher) for a lease.

    .00050 and 55% (36/10) or 62% (24/10)

Also, be advised that VA taxes the entire selling price, even for a lease.

Good morning! I stopped by my dealership yesterday evening. They have tons of s, se, and a few sel models. I currently have a 2014 Jetta sel . It has everything. The new sel doesn't have the fender sound system anymore! I am really bummed. Then, I went to look for a GLI and they didn't have any. My lease is up within 6 months. I'm not even sure what I want for my next lease. This will be my 3rd Jetta. I would like the GLI, it has the fender sound. If I go below this model, I'll lose what I normally used to in terms of features. I would like to stay with vw, but bummed with what their doing with the line up.

If I go below this model, I'll lose what I normally used to in terms of features. I would like to stay with vw, but bummed with what their doing with the line up.

Six months is a long time. No telling what the 2018 options will look like.

    MSRP and selling price?

    State and tax rate?

    Breakdown of $2000 up front?

Without that information, we can only guess how good that deal is.

Hi Everyone,I am looking for VW JETTA SE lease in chicagoland

My dealer quoted sale price as $17,800 for finance and $19,150 for lease
He told MF is 0.0001 and RV is 46%.

he said it is not possible to match the sale price of finance to lease. Is that true??
Also please let me know the best deal you come across on leasing Jetta se.

    Thanks,
    Krishna
