If it's .002 and 64% like I read above, is Honda actually making the CRV even more expensive to lease in May because the prior 2 months I believe the MF and residual was .002 and 65% residual. So for May, Honda kept the same MF but lowered the residual by 1%? I was expecting this car to get cheaper as the year went on, especially with hopefully holiday promotions.

.00200 and 64% is correct for May.

Yes, that would increase the lease payment, all else being equal. CR-V's are flying off the lots - no real incentive for Honda to change that.

Hi, On May 2nd you gave me the MF and Res for 2017 CR-V EX for 36 mos/ 15K and 39mos/15 K. ,002 MF and 62% / 60% res. I asked if I should wait until June for better numbers. You said current Honda program will run until July 5th. How sure are you of this? My dealer is telling me to wait until May 24th when a better
program is supposed to come out. In your opinion am I getting played by this dealer to bolster end of month

We are certain of the start and end dates of the current programs.

Salesman are usually not privy to any mid-month changes to the programs; likely we won't know about them, either.

Draw your own conclusions from that.

Yes, dealer can increase the MF, but that's rarely done by Honda dealers.

Could be they are quoting you a generic MF until they have a chance to run your credit.

AWD does not change the numbers

Confirm with the dealer what "adjusted cap cost" they are using for their quote - if higher than the selling price you've shared, make them explain what was added.

$336 + 10% (7% Alleghany Co sales tax plus 3% state lease tax uplift) = $370/mo

Still about $1000 to explain.

I'm wondering specifically if I would be able to talk them down on the vehicle price. As in, my RV is $15,515 and they are selling used at 18k-19k.

Sure, I can buy out the lease and turn around and sell it, but then I'm out the acquisition cost and taxes, plus trade-in/sale isn't as much as dealer msrp for the used vehicle. And that's more work for me as well. But if I can shop it around to a dealer to turn it into, then perhaps I can get the price of a new/leased vehicle down below what would normally be possible because they would be acquiring a vehicle that they could then turn around a quick 3-4k profit.

Thoughts? Is this a thing? Or do I not understand how a lease turn-in works, especially from the dealers perspective (because maybe they don't keep the car, it just gets shipped off to an auction, so the dealer themselves don't actually care).

The RV is the buyout price - for you.

If you turn the car in at the end of the lease, the dealer may be able to buy it from Honda Finance for a different price.

If you want to make the profit, you'll have to buy it out, then resell it, absorbing the costs you mentioned.

Now, with 1 month left on the lease, you may be able to trade it in, if the trade value is higher than the payoff amount.

Call Honda Finance and get the payoff amount, then check with a local CarMax to see what they'll offer you in trade. Remember, there is a spread between the trade value and the retail price, so you may not have the $3-4K of equity you think you do.
