Can't believe I never visited the forums, having used the Edmunds site and app for years.

I'm still going through the great info shared in this thread, but I still have a ton of questions (glad I'm not in the market til around the fall).

    - I've seen the ".00200 MF and 63% 36/15."  The Money Factor is basically the APR? And the 36/15 is 36 months lease and 15k miles/year? (I told
    you I was a noob)

    - In shopping around, I've seen some ridiculous fees (dealer, acquisition, prep, etc). How negotiable are those?

    - And when people ask for MF, residual, etc, doesn't your credit score also impacts your deal? And with that in mind, is 705 enough for a decent deal or should I try to get to 720 at least? Does it even matter?

Great thread, thanks for all the info!

I hope people know that the .00200 MF is with a preferred credit score. Otherwise you would probably be looking at .00245. Not too much of a difference but still noticeable!
Anyone have what their preferred credit score is? Are there different ranges?

Yes.. .00200 MF is roughly equivalent to 4.8% APR.

    36/15 is indeed 36 months, 15K mi/yr.

Honda acquisition fee (aka bank fee) is $595

Dealer/document/prep fees are all garbage fees for the dealer. Rather than negotiate those fees, find out what they are before starting negotiations, then revise your offer downward to account for them.

Not sure of the credit score required for top tier, but it's somewhere in the lower 700s.

Is there a "Car Leasing for Dummies" articles anyone recommends? I've seen Edmunds leasing calculator on their app but I feel it may miss some items that may be crucial during the negotiation at the dealer.

For the record, this obviously will be my first, I've purchased our last cars using my own financing, bringing the check into the dealership, avoiding the whole finance discussion.

Hi! Could I get the MF and residual for the EX 2WD, 36 mos/15k mileage? I'm in Cleveland, OH.

Also, I had another question. So I'm considering returning my leased 2015 Accord early because I reached my mileage cap early. I have about $3160 left in payments. I went to the dealership to get some numbers for leasing the CR-V and it feels like they're counting that money twice. So they're adding it back once to the "purchase price" of the new CR-V, and basing that amount to calculate my monthly pmt, but then they also add $88 to it (my 3160 divided by 36). Is this standard or should it really be one or the other. Thanks!

They have to use the MSRP to calculate the residual, but you should negotiate a discount, as well. Of course, the CR-V is very popular. It might be cheaper to drive the Accord until lease end, and pay the mileage penalty.

If you went over on mileage with the Accord, will that happen again with the new lease?

    Hello,

Can you please provide the current money factor and residual value for a 2017 Honda CR-V LX AWD for a 3 year lease at 12,000 miles per year in the state of New York? If there is a difference between 36 months and 39 months, can you please provide both? Thank you!

I was going to increase the mileage cap for this lease. I travel for work and get reimbursed for the mileage, so I lease so I can just pocket the mileage instead of paying for maintenance down the road.

Can you provide the MF and residual for Ohio on a CR-V EX 2WD? 15k miles a year, 36 mos.

    Hi,

I'm in need of some help. Firstly, I want to thank everyone in this forum, you guys have tons of knowledge when it comes to leasing. It has helped me a lot. So here's my problem, I've contacted a lot of dealers in the NYC and New Jersey area and we cant seem to get on the same page in regards to price. I need to know if I'm doing something wrong. Here's what I've negotiated thus far:

    2017 Honda CR-V Touring:
    Dealer 1:
    MSRP: 34, 595
    Cap Cost: 32,217
    Money factor: 0.00200
    Miles: 12K
    Term: 36 Months
    Residual: 62%
    Their Monthly Payment: $405.81

    My Monthly Payment:
    Here's my math:
    32,595 x .62= 21,448.90
    32,217 - 21,488.90= 10,768.10
    10,786.10/36= 299.11 (Monthly Dep)
    (32,217 + 10,768.10) x .00200= 85.97 (Rent Charge)
    Monthly payment: 299.11 + 85.97= 385.08

    Dealer 2:
    MSRP: 34,635
    Cap Cost: 32,706
    Money factor: 0.00200
    Miles: 10K
    Term: 36 Months
    Residual: 63%
    Their Monthly Payment: $439.00

    My Monthly Payment:
    Here's my math:
    32,635 x .63= 21,820.05
    32,706 - 21,820.05= 10,886
    10,886/36= 302.39 (Monthly Dep)
    (32,706 + 10,886) x .00200= 87.18 (Rent Charge)
    Monthly payment: 302.39 + 87.18= 385.08

I've tried using lease calculators but it hasn't been much help as every site spits out different numbers.

I plan on paying all of the taxes and fees upfront and dealers aren't giving me straight forward information on that either. If anyone can let me know what the out of pocket should be, I would greatly appreciate it.

If anyone knows a trust worthy dealer that I can go to please let me know.

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance!

Residual is a percentage of MSRP, not the selling price or CAP cost.

    That should fix your calculations.

    Is this a good deal?
Honda CRV Ex 2017 12,000 miles
    $0 money down
    $318 a month
$160 Dmv fee, doc fee (which I'm fighting the $75 doc fee)
    Plus sales tax

    What is the MSRP?
    How many months?
Don't waste your time over the doc fee. If you are in NY (?), every dealer in the state charges that fee, and it's the maximum allowed by statute.

How do I find out the msrp?

Go to the Make/Model/Year tabs at the top of the page, or go to Honda's website and "build" one there.
Always ask the dealer for the MSRP with their quote, to make sure they are quoting the vehicle you want.

All identical models will have an identical MSRP, unless there has been a mid-year price increase (negligible difference). If you found one for $2000 less, that's a different model, or just a lower advertised price from a dealer.

To calculate a lease payment, you need the MSRP, selling price and adjusted CAP cost.

If I add the acquisition fee and the other fees to the cap cost, I get the same payment as your quote, to the penny.

If you're comfortable with the selling price, everything else looks good.

I'm within a dollar or two of that quote, with those numbers.

MF seems marked up - we think the base MF for the CR-V is .00200 or so.

Check with another dealer to confirm the MF value.

CR-V's are expensive to lease, at the moment, but that's way too high a payment for a $25,000 SUV.

If I add the acquisition fee and the other fees to the cap cost, I get the same payment as your quote, to the penny.

If you're comfortable with the selling price, everything else looks good.

That would precisely be my next question: is that a good selling price? I am used to dealing with VW, and they always lower the price a lot with respect to the MSRP (at least with the Passat), but it seems that Honda doesn't. Here, they are discounting just a little over $1,200 and I have no idea if that is good, normal, or bad. I truly appreciate your help!

We don't track selling prices, but the new CR-V is very popular, so there isn't a lot of discounting going on.

    Hi,

I'm NJ based resident. I have started looking CR-V EXL trim with 15000/annual mileage. One dealer have given me 375/month for 12k mileage but What would be the best lease offer for 15k mileage?

    .00200 and 64% for 36/12; 62% for 36/15

We would need to know the following to evaluate your offer:

    MSRP
    Selling price
    Adjusted cap cost
    Amount due at signing

We ended up extending the lease on our 2014 CR-V month-to-month for up to 6 months. Honda does that with a simple phone call. No paperwork.

We'll wait out the MF and maybe get lucky and get some incentives and better discounts down the road. Thanks for all your help. We'll be back. ;-)

I think that is a wise course of action; at some point, the MF has to come down. The problem is, the residual is likely to drop as well.

    > The problem is, the residual is likely to drop as well.

Understood. We're at $235/mo EX AWD, so the terms are favorable to extend.

At current market rates, we would be at around $335 to $350/mo on the 2017 EX AWD 3/36 lease. By waiting, and assuming a 60% residual and a MF of .00032, with $1000 less on the negotiated price puts us right around the $260 area. Maybe we'll get lucky and they will start the $900 dealer cash, $750 lease cash on the 2017.

You may be waiting a while for the MF to drop to .00032 on the 2017's. And, not likely to see that amount of lease cash anytime in the near future.

My prediction? (and, guesses are three for a quarter) - MF will drop to around .00100, and residuals will come down a few percent, as well.

So long as the CR-V remains the best selling SUV/CUV, no real incentive for Honda to make them terribly affordable. Strike while the iron is hot, because at some point the new models will be available (3-4 years from now), and Honda will put fire sale prices and numbers on the outgoing body style.

We'll have to see what happens with the MF. With sales reportedly at a plateu and already rolling over, and incentives at recessionary levels for some OEM's, competitors seem ready and willing to amp up the incentives to maintain market share. At some point, when you can get a peer vehicle for $X less, one has to wonder is the 2017 CR-V really all that?

"While industry retail sales pace remains high, it is being powered by elevated levels of incentive spending which pose a serious threat to the long-term health of the industry," said Deirdre Borrego, senior vice president of automotive data and analytics at J.D. Power.

    That's one opinion.

No real slow down in SUV / CUV sales - at one point, I was looking at the small CUV's (HR-V, Trax, etc.) and the lease numbers, across the board, were much worse than on a 4-door sedan, which nobody wants.

    That's why I drive a Jetta.

Hi: I'm looking for residual and money factor for a 2017 CR-V EX AWD with 10,000miles/yr for 3 yrs. Based in New England. Are there any lease deals to be had on 2017 CR-Vs in the near future?

.00200 and 65% for 36/12 (no 10K allowance from Honda)

No insight as to when the deals might get better - these are real popular and real expensive to lease, at the moment.

We would need to know the following to evaluate your offer:

I got another quotes from other dealer. I think it looks promising

    MSRP: 31,450
    Selling price: 28500
    Adjusted cap cost:
Amount due at signing: 3000 (includes acquisition, documentary, license/registration fees, first month payment)

    Monthly payment: $330.

How are you rating this quotes? what would be the best deal I can make?
