I've now got 1K miles on my new fully equiped Yukon - here is the results:

    1. Drives much better than my 2002 Yukon
    2. Rear camera boots too slow after start to be effective
    3. One tire pressure monitor reads 8lbs low - causes idiot light when cold
    4. Electric rear door and rear seats are a big waste - car wash guys can't figure out how to open rear, motors under seat take up too much room.
    5. With rear seats removed, remaining tracks don't allow things to lay flat
    6. Middle row seats aren't removeable, and may get in the way of larger items
    7. Nav and radio system are a pain to use when driving - too many features blocked when moving
    8. Nav warning screen is really annoying
    9. V8/V4 seems to work well - concerned with future performance
    10. Battery voltage indicator seems to randomly be between 10 or 14volts - no correlation to the real voltage
    11. Nav system - when using to guide you, provides split screen with map and list of next offramps - no way to turn off list and just display map (too small to use)
    12. Impressed with Nav details and accuracy in town, but not impressed with ability to find shortest route (from LA to Big Bear - wanted to take me 100miles out of the way - not even close to right)

More info about item #10: Battery volt gauge -- It's accurate. GM is using a newer type of alternator and/or voltage regulator! .. It does have random output voltage ... AND sometimes it will turn OFF the alternator output voltage totally if it senses that the battery is fully charged. .. At those times you are running on battery power only .. Why?? .. less load on the engine .. More fuel mileage!!
    ---

More about fuel mileage .. With the DIC turned to instant fuel mileage .. watch the readout when the AC is cycled ON then OFF. .. It uses a lot more HP than you think!
    ---

Item #9: The heart of the new V8/V4 system is the lifters! .. For future performance & long engine life there is nothing more important than changing your oil!
    ---

Item #4: Power rear door .. IMHO it's great!
    ---

Item #6: For larger items .. I have been using various size trailers & types for years! .. It saves a lot of wear & tear from being put on your vehicle.
    ---

Item #4: IMO .. it's better to have a larger seat motors than ones that are too small that could burn or wear out premature.
    ---

FYI .. I did not order the NAV, rear camera, & 3rd seats.
.. BUT .. the XM SAT radio & with Bose speakers and with the steering wheel controls IS .. The best GM sound system that I ever had!!

And for #11, you may want to reread the Nav's instruction booklet. There were instructions for the previous nav system (2006 and earlier vehicles) to allow switching between splitscreen and fullscreen maps. Having seen salesmen at my local dealership playing with the nav in a 2007 Tahoe LTZ, I witnessed the map in fullscreen view. So there has to be a way for the new ones too.

Thanks for the info. I just got my hands on a copy of a recent 2007 Tahoe dyno test. Naturally, the test results were supplied by the manufacture of the CAI, although the tests were impressive, they did prove your point. The test indicated an increase of 22 HP and 28 Lb-Ft. If you study the tiny graft, you will see that most of the extra ponies are at the top of the RPM range. Looks like it is pretty much a wash until you reach 3000 RPM, then you pick up 8 HP @ 3500 RPM, 10 HP @ 4000 RPM, 18 HP @ 4500 RPM, and finally 22 HP @ 5000 RPM. I will probably still pick one up, if I can get the right price, as it will probably help with the trail load on long hills.

I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with GM/Chevy yesterday trying to figure out how to obtain a costumer loyalty coupon to use on my recently ordered LTZ. Bottom line – “It’s not going to happen” Apparently GM/Chevy picks the recipients of its customer loyalty program at random. It does not count if you have purchased a new Chevy truck every 2 years for the past 30+ years the process is random. The customer service rep, and supervisor were both very polite and well scripted, stating that they receive many requests and comments related to this process, however they could do nothing. IMHO this sucks. :confuse: :confuse: :confuse:

it does go to full map view....I have used it several times that way...although I prefer the exit by exit map myself...play around with it...it does go to full map!

I have had my 2007 Tahoe for one week now and the only thing I noticed that may not be set right from the dealer is the air pressure in the tires. I got the 17" standard tires which are Bridgestone Duellers. According to the DIC, the air is 37 PSI in each one. The tires look like they can handle up to 44. I would like to ge a little bit better mileage and I am thinking 7 PSI below max is alot. What is everyone else using for normal driving? :confuse:
P.S. The spare is a Goodyear Wangler but the others are Bridgestone. Strange?

hello from ct. i am picking up a new 2007 lt2 white tahoe tomorrow night from my dealer. I was reading about the passlock2 system and i said that it comes from the factory with a setting thats anti start unless you have the key. it said you have to specifically set the alarm to trip if the doors are opened when the alarm is set????how was everyones configuered when they bought it??? is this a effective alarm system???how easy is it to defeat??
  • ronhere24ronhere24 Member Posts: 5
p.s. the dealer i go to in ct has about 30-50 tahoes in stock from base ls to full loaded ltz's with all the goodies..20"rims, side curtains, rear cameras and nav, rear dvd...all colors to.
  • bigjohn101bigjohn101 Member Posts: 19
GM recommends 32 psi .. Read the sticker/notice on the driver's door. ... All manufactors & companies are very concerned about liability! .. Especially with tires after the Ford Explorer & Firestone FIASCO! .. They are also concerned about comfort and good ride. .. I have the same combination of tires as you have and I'm using 40 psi in front and 38 in the rear and I'm very satisfied with that combination. .. I think 44 psi is to high unless you have a very heavy load or trailer tongue weight to compensate for. .. Remember to adjust air pressure to the correct psi .. ONLY on 'COLD TIRES' .. No big deal IMO on the brand for the spare tire. .. How many people do you think actually rotate the spare onto the vehicle.

Love my new Tahoe and want to get opinions from others who feel the same. I currently have black license plate frames on my Tahoe. What do you guys think would look better chrome or black? I know i have too much time on my hands but i want the Tahoe to look perfect. :)

Curtailment up-date for all you that may be waiting for delivery. As I previously stated, I was on the phone with Chevy customer service yesterday, they have confirmed that if you do not have a build date prior to May 15, 2006 availability of the following items will delay production for at least 30 additional days:

    1. ASF – Head Curtain Side Air Bag
    2. UVC – Rear Camera
    3. UVB – Nav Radio (forces rear entertainment system DVD)
    4. U3U – Nav Radio – (not compatible with rear entertainment system DVD)
    5. UD7 – Rear Park Assist
    6. RCS – 20 inch Chrome Wheels

Looks like it is going to be a long summer, I ordered my LTZ on 4/11/06 figure it took the dealer 5 days to get the order in the system, it is very unlikely that it will be picked up for production and assigned a build date by 5/15/06.

I will wait patiently, this is my 3-vehicle purchase from this dealer, he treats me very well, gave me a great deal, far below anything I have been able to find locally in Albany NY, on this or any other site. He is a hungry mid-size dealer in Vermont, I actually have to travel 2 hours to his location, but it is well worth the trip. If you are contemplating a purchase in the north east, I strongly suggest you contact at Hand Chevrolet – Volkswagen in Manchester Vermont.

I have driven every car/suv out there at least TWICE now, including the new 2007 Tahoe. I have read every car mag, consumer reports review, online article, every Edmunds post, ... again on every SUV out there. And i really like the Tahoe. My fallback car is a Highlander, which has all the pizazz of a vanilla shake, but its about 7/8 grand less and has great consumer reports reviews (quality, dependability, ... lots of sold red dots). With the Tahoe, i'm freaking out about a couple things:

    1) Gas mileage

Watching the price of gas jump 30-50 cents in a month, with talk of it being $4/gallon this summer makes me reconsider. I see that people are reporting anywhere from 12 to 19 mpg w/ the Tahoe. Driving 16,000 miles a year at $3/gallon, thats a $3428 a year or $285/month avg, assuming 14 miles to a gallon. At $4/gallon, that comes to $380/month. Good googly. When i compare that to say 20 miles a gallon for a Highlander, it comes to $200/month @ 3/gal or $266/month @ 4/gal. A $1000 or $1300 a year diff between the two.

    2) Prior chevy owner experience

Waaaaaay back in the day i had a '88 Chevy Blazer. Horrific and expensive maintenance experience. And in retrospect, the reliability was confirmed by lots of black dots on the consumer reports reviews for that car. I had sworn off US cars at that point.

So here i am looking at another Chevy that i had sworn off. And it happens to be a first year production run at that. I think the HL is a tad small and very plain, but with decent mpg and cheaper. The Tahoe a bit big, but a real nice ride... with an unknown maintenance record. Having said all that, do you have any advice for this pillar of indecision?

I'm not familiar with where everyone is, but here is a dealer that is selling '07 Tahoes, Yukons and Denali's at near invoice. You can browse their on-line inventory and pricing at www.SierraMotors.net. This is in North-Central California.

I have a 2003 Yukon and the lease expires in June. Yesterday I drove the 2007 and was impressed by the fit and finish, the steering and brakes. However, it seemed to me that the bucket seats in both the front and second row were narrower, firmer, and less comfortable than those in the 2003. Both cars are SLT's with the upscale seats so I expected the seats to be very similar. Yet to my butt, they aren't. Anyone else have the same reaction? After I drove the Yukon, I test drove a 2006 Envoy Denali and those seats felt more like my current truck.

I think the car owner's manual advises against rotating the spare. Why is that?
  • alston28alston28 Member Posts: 98
Though I own a Tahoe, if you don't need the extra size or towing capacity, I'd go with the Toyota.
  • 73shark73shark Member Posts: 325
Got another build date yesterday of 5-8-06 from my dealer. :D
Original order date was 2-17-06 with a build date of 3-20-06.
BTW what's the phone number you are using for Chevy customer service? Thanks.
  • 73shark73shark Member Posts: 325
This is an apples and oranges question. Kind of like comparing a Miata to a Corvette. Based upon what you said, I think you would be happier with the HL but they aren't really very comparable.
  • 73shark73shark Member Posts: 325
Are you going to have other things like billet gas door, chrome door handles, etc? If so, then probably should go with the chrome frame. Also depends on vehicle color and personal taste. I go for the black frame and removing the other chrome stuff. Kind of old school but that's just me. They aren't that expensive so you might try one and see how you like it after a while.

Alston: what year is your Tahoe and how is the maint on it?
  • 73shark73shark Member Posts: 325
Since mine hasn't been built yet, I haven't seen manual. One possibility is because Chevy doesn't give you an aluminum wheel for the spare, you have to mount and balance two tire/wheel combos if you rotate the spare or drive with that funky, black steel wheel.

Hey guys, I just leased a 2007 Tahoe 4x4 with the LT1 package, 20" rims, side curtain airbags and Bose speakers. If anyone has a question that a quick look at my vehicle or owner's manual review will address, let me know.
  • ahightowerahightower Member Posts: 539
I thought the same thing about the seats. Narrower and harder.
  • jewelybluejewelyblue Member Posts: 4
I'm trying to buy this exact Tahoe, '07 LT1, third row seat, cloth interior. It stickers for about $36,700, but I have one of the $1,500 GM coupons (received in the mail) and now GM is offering a $1,000 cloth seat allowance as well as $1,500 additional for any trade of a 2000+ vehicle (which I have), for a total additional $4,000 off their best deal. This puts the best offer I've received at $33,000, less the $4,000 in GM allowances, for a total of $29,000. The also gave me the best offer on my trade by about $1,000. My husband is still working on them and $3,000 of these incentives run out in two days. I don't think we should expect any better deal. Anyone with comments?

By the way, I've owned 5 new Suburbans over the past 11 years and my trade is an '05 Toyota 4-Runner. I like the Toyota, but it's way too small after 10 years in a Suburban.
  • junglegeorgejunglegeorge Member Posts: 129
Is this $1,500 additional for any trade of a 2000+ vehicle an dealer offer or directly from GM? What state are you purchasing in ?
  • jewelybluejewelyblue Member Posts: 4
I believe it is from GM, since several dealers I was working with, as well as a GMC dealer with a Yukon, were making the same offer. I live in Texas.
  • alston28alston28 Member Posts: 98
It's a 2005 I bought Sept. 30, 2005. I have about 6500 miles on it - roughly 1/2 city, 1/2 highway. Two minor problems so far: something was wrong with the windshield washer, which the dealer fixed. Now, the cigarette lighter isn't working. I don't smoke, but my wife and I use the cigarette lighter on trips to charge the cell phone, so I will get it fixed as soon as I have time to take it back to the dealer. (I know there is another outlet, which is working; we use both of them - 1 for each cell phone.) I like the Tahoe. I bought it because we wanted an SUV and it's the only one availale without a center console. If I didn't have these long legs, I would have gotten something smaller that gets better gas mileage. I've heard good things about the Highlander, and I have a high regard for Toyota quality. Let me know if you want any more specifics.

If you are that concerned about the fuel, I have a suggestion. You need to adopt the "First Law of Good Driving". That law states:

"If you ever have to use your brakes while traveling greater than 40 MPH, you are probably doing something wrong"

What you might be doing wrong is:
    1. Traveling too close to the car ahead of you.
    2. Waiting too long to back off the gas when approaching a stoplight/stop sign.
    3. Not looking far enough ahead and reacting to something taking place.
    4. Accelerating too quickly in traffic.
    5. Just plain going too fast for the road conditions.

You would be amazed at what effect the 40 MPH rule has on fuel consumption. I would guess 15 to 25% depending on the driver.

Basically what you are doing is driving like a hybrid in that you are not converting your fuel energy to heat given off by the brakes. A hybrid driving right next to you will get no better fuel economy than you will if you are not using your brakes!!!!

Do you know where you can get one of those $1500 GM coupons that you got in the mail? I just purchased an '07 Tahoe 4x4 LTZ yesterday and got the $1500 trade in rebate, plus I'm considered a GM employee, so I got the employee pricing, but I wondered if I took a $1500 coupon in to the dealer if they would honor it?
  • 07tahoecop07tahoecop Member Posts: 4
Keep 1 door open and hit the lock button on ur remote. Then close the door. You will see the alarm flashing on your dashboard. Its easy and if u read the owners manuel, it talks about it.
  • jewelybluejewelyblue Member Posts: 4
From what I understand, both from this forum and I asked the dealer, these GM coupons were mailed out totally at random to former customers. They were good for different dollar amounts depending on the GM vehicle purchased, but the value was $1,500 towards the larger SUVs.

I used a large dealership in the DFW area and when asked if they had seen many of these, I was told by my salesman that he'd seen only 3 or 4 in the past month, and he was one of their top salespeople. He said he was hoping he'd get one in the mail!

I suspect many people toss them out before they even know what they are. The mailing was a very nicely done, multi-page color brochure about the size of an envelope. I doubt that a dealer would be willing to honor one after a sale has been made because my husband went over to finish the deal and they wouldn't even begin the financing without having the coupon, which was with me. They started the paperwork once I showed up with it.

It made for a pretty good deal considering I got a total of $4,000 off my Tahoe!

Besides the gas mileage, I can't see why you waffeling between a Tahoe and a Highlander. They are totally diferent in looks and ride. The highlander is a great vehicle, but too small for anyone considering a Tahoe. I traded my 2002 Tundra Limited Access 4 x 4 for a new 2007 Yukon SLT loaded and I am quite happy so far. I tried out Sequoias, Highlanders and a Landcruiser before finally settling on the Yukon. After 14 years with various Toyotas, I felt it was time to leave some of my cash in the USA. I vote for the GM so far. Everyday comfort is most important. Good Luck

Anyone know if it is possible to remove this feature fron the nav screen? When you are driving a route, it takes up 1/2 the screen telling you what exits are coming up. I cant figure out how to minimize or get rid of it.

Hey i just got my tahoe LT3 i have a button to fold the mirrors, i cant figure out why i cant set it to automatically fold when i turn off the car, any idea?
  • shawnhackettshawnhackett Member Posts: 16
I tried 87 octane in the 07 LTZ for three tanks, but I'm now back to 93.

I didn't like hearing the slight pinging up a hill with 87. I'll gladly pay the extra $4.00 per tank to keep it running smooth with 93.
  • 73shark73shark Member Posts: 325
Better take it in for service. It definitely shouldn't ping/knock on regular. Sounds like a non-functioning knock sensor. Good luck.
  • tahoefourtahoefour Member Posts: 16
They can't be set to fold in when you turn it off.
  • kotelkotel Member Posts: 3
The question is why? what's the point of having power folding mirrors if you have to remeber to press the button everytime you exit the truck...

So 6 weeks ago I placed an order for my 2007 Tahoe which I took delivery of yesterday. I ordered it with the LT3 package and added a few options and the dealer told me the cost would be approximately 41,800 which was their cost + 500 profit. So I'm in the finance office yesterday with the finance director going over the cost of the vehicle which was listed on his computer screen. He asked if anyone had shown me their invoice yet and I told him no one had. He opens my file which contained all of the ordering info, credit checks, etc, and pulls out the invoice while going over the price with me. He tells and shows me on the invoice that their price for the car was 36,300 and my cost was 36,800 which included their $500.00 profit. I was shocked at the price the guy was telling me as I know the original price of 41,800 was the correct price because the dealer had given me a copy of the order sheet when I originally placed the order. So I look at the bottom of the dealer invoice and notice the invoice is actually for a different, less equipped Tahoe which was a 2WD model with a LT1 package which had somehow been placed in my ordering file. So the finance director finishes all of my paperwork and I sign them as soon as I can then haul [non-permissible content removed] out of there as quick as I could..... I guess this was a deal of a lifetime!!!
  • brjohnsonbrjohnson Member Posts: 10
Same opinion. Waited for the 2007 models to come out before we bought...after checking it out, bought a 2006 in black with the 20" wheels...sexy vehicle and in my opinion more comfy as well. Added the Escalade gauge faces and chrome trim rings and a wood wheel to dress it up a bit...love it.

Was surprised as it seems the new center console is wider than the old...which was already wide...this seems to have eaten into the seating space...also they just didn't seem as comfortable...front or second row.
  • junglegeorgejunglegeorge Member Posts: 129
My 07 LTZ is on order and has not arrived yet, however, on my 2004 you can set the mirrors to fold automatically in the DIC. Have you scrolled through the DIC menu? If indeed GM did not include this user setting, I too will be very disappointed.

Admittedly, my current vehicle is a 2004 Silverado. But it also has the power folding mirrors. Nowhere in my DIC have I seen a place to set anything like this. I always thought the function was meant for getting the truck into and out of tight parking spaces without breaking the mirrors. I've used them maybe twice.

Anyway, just based on the way they function with my truck I wouldn't be surprised that there's no automatic function on the 07 vehicles. (There is a setting for the curb view auto-tilt in there though.)

Ok a couple of months ago I got into a wreck. Just now finished fixing the whole front end. All of the lights are working except my dash lights & my parking lights? Is there a fuse for these lights? Does anyone have an idea as to why they may not be working? Much help would be appreciated, I'm at a loss right now.By the way its a 1995 gmc yukon 2 door, 4x4, 350 hp. Thanks, Jay

It's not in the DIC, its a good fetuare if you live in the city then your mirror can be knocked off any time, why in the world couldn't they have this settings the fetuare is already there...

Looking inside the hood of my new Tahoe I noticed a big, open area on the drivers side which looks like it could fit another battery or storage bin. Any idea what goes there or what Chevy is planning on putting there? If there is an accessory storage container I would like to get the details.
