You might want to look at the Envoy or Envoy XL if you want 7 passenger room. It is closer to the Highlander in size and with the I-6 would get closer to 18-21 MPG depending on how you drive. I have seen basic 5 passenger Envoys and Trailblazers advertised in the low $20K range. You can throw in an extended GM warranty for maybe another $1200-$1500 to cover unexpected repairs for the first 100K miles. The 7 passenger Envoy/Trailblazer/Isuzu Ascender are just about as long as the Tahoe/Yukon, just not as wide. Also note that the GMs are on truck type frames while the Highlander frame/unibody & suspension started life as a Camry. Even though the Envoy/TB are frame based, the ride is exceptional.
Several DFW Texas area dealers I visisted were aware of this trade-in rebate that was offered on 2000 model trades or newer, however I mentioned it first. This incentive is not listed in GM rebates and was supposed to have ended April 30th, though I think it may have been extended.
I was wondering the same thing. I owned a 1997 Chevy Cheyenne truck that had a similar space under the hood but it had an actual storage bin there. Does anyone know if you can buy something similar from Chevy to put in that space on the Tahoe?
My tahoe should be here in less than a week and Im so excited! I am curious as to the Solar-Ray deep-tinted windows in the back part of the Tahoe. Is it decent for heat? I live in AZ and plan on tinting the drivers windows, but am torn as to if I should tint the 2nd row and rear windows to help with the heat? Any thoughts and opinions are welcome. Thanks.
Compare to my Exploer, I noticed that it gets hotter because of the larger windows. I am planning on getting all windows tinted except for the windshield.
I think you have it confused with the auto tiltdown feature (either or both mirrors tilt down when shifter is in reverse gear); AFAIK no '03-'06 GM fullsize truck/SUV has auto-folding mirrors that fold by themselves when you exit your vehicle (or, when vehicle is in Park and engine off). They do fold automatically but as you found out, you have to press the mirror tilt button on the door armrest.
I dunno about your situation but I don't see why one would always have a need for the mirrors to be folded in all the time; I mean, did you always fold your mirrors in on any of your other vehicle(s) which didn't offer power-folding mirrors every time you exited the vehicle? I know I don't always need to fold them--whether power-folding or otherwise...and I'm willing to bet most others didn't feel the need to either.
We have had our 2007 LTZ for about two weeks. We were reading the NAV manual and it says "NOT" to apply aftermarket tinting to the front windows as this will make the NAV system malfunction. Is this true? Has anybody heard of that or asked about it?
I changed to a chrome bowtie. Check out precisiongrilles.com You can search 2007 Tahoe from the homepage and it'll list their parts. (They don't sell directly to public, but they list their retailers so you can find one nearby, or mailorder.) Changing it took five minutes. Just reach in past hood latch. The two outer posts have little press nuts on 'em. With the nuts off, you can pry the gold bowtie off. I can give you more details if you want...
One more thing to mention. GM put some double-sided foam tape behind the bowtie. But have no fear, once the nuts are off, you can pry the old one off. It separates just behind the black border. The new one from Precision come smaller than the gold one, but it fits really nice into an indentation revealed when you remove the gold. Like I said above, I'll be happy to give you more details if you need.
Hey TahoeDDS...Where in the manual did you read this? I too have the LTZ but didn't see anything like that in the manual. Please let me know because I too am about to have the windows tinted/retinted on my LTZ.
We found it on page 56 of the supplemental booklet that reads Avalanche,Tahoe,etc..... Navigational system 2007 it is a small manual only about 95 pages long. I still haven't talk to my sales rep or my dealer to check it out. I have seen some other tahoes with the tint but I don't know if they have the nav system or not. Let me know if you find out anything.
Hey TahoeDDS...Wow, I just read what you are talking about. I had kind of skimmed this manual previously but didn't see that. I will try and find out more through my dealership next week. In the interim, if you get more info please do share it as this could be a MAJOR issue for all owner's who have the NAV system.
I kind of find it hard to believe that tint on the side windows (doors and rear) would have any effect though. Maybe if you somehow tinted the front window it would effect it but I've never known anyone who has done that. Do you have any idea where the satellite receiver is located for the GPS system?
The Garmin GPS unit was working just fine on my 2002 Burb until I had a neutral color 3M sunscreen film installed on the windshield & side windows. That killed it. I had to purchase Garmin's external GPS antennae w/extension cord and stick it on the back rear side window to get it working again.
I am not sure about the where gps reciever antenna is. The onstar is on top as you know and there is a large apparatus behind the rear view mirror stuck to the glass but I have not been told what that is. My neighbor has a 2 y/o Denali which has two antennas on top, one being the onstar and sat radio, and the other being the gps. I think that would be ridiculous on GM's part not to have an external antenna for that. I really want the tint for privacy and sun shade as it gets really hot here in summers where I live.
Hey Ted44...Did I understand you correctly in that you put a film on the "front windshield"? Why would you want to do that? All windshields are manufactured to block out all the UV rays so there isn't a reason to do this...Or at least I'm not aware of one.
Now tinting the driver and passenger doors and all other windows I can understand...As a matter of fact I had limo tint on all windows of my '02 Expedition (OK...No comments about owning a Ford please ), and it was GREAT. No one could see anything from the outside and it definitely kept the vehicle cooler than it would have been without it. I live in Central Florida and it can get unbelievably hot during the summer time.
Absolutely! That front window is VERY BIG. Lottsa sunshine comes in there when driving during the heat of the day. Maybe the stock glass cuts down on UV's, but if so I didn't know about it. In either case, the sun tinting not only cuts the UV's, it also makes a for very noticeable reduction in the transmitted heat. I had to have a Dr's prescription to have it installed. It is a neutral color and doesn't darken the visibility. :shades:
I am no expert, but exactly what wavelength of light are you trying to keep out? My mother has lupus and they tinted their front windows to minimize infrared. They also have a prescription for the tinting. I believe UV is blocked by simple glass or plastic. I've often wondered what glass/tint does.
I guess for certain medical reasons that a tint may be necessary on the front windshield...Never really thought about that one. I can see where this would have an effect on the NAV/GPS system if part of the receiver is located inside the vehicle.
As for UV reflection...The reason I mentioned this is because my glasses have transition lenses which will darken when in the sun (caused by the UV rays) :shades: . However, I can lay these glasses on the dash of my truck and they will not darken at all therefor showing that the windshield is rejecting the UV rays...Or at least 99% of them according to Tidester.
I guess from what I've read and heard...Tinting the driver and passenger doors should NOT have any effect on the NAV/GPS system.
The host is correct. Glass (regular) blocks UV rays. To minimize heat, one needs to block IR radiation. One way to do this would be to use a filter such as KG3 glass. Don't know if there are any IR filter films though. Some of the tint films have a metallic content such as the reflective ones. This could affect any receiver inside the vehicle that didn't have an external antenna. I would hope that the NAV system has an external antenna. In Kansas, we can't use tint darker than 35% (legally).
Thanks for the advice. I'm going to order one today. From your description, it doesn't sound too difficult to do. If only the rear emblem were as easy.... Thanks again.
Aha! Precision says they'll have a rear bowtie out soon. It should be even easier, since the rear bowtie is held on just by double-sided tape. (But there are two little post that help line it up, so don't take it off thinking you can have a totally clean liftgate. I tried it, and discovered the two little holes... Yikes.)
I love my power-fold mirrors. I fold them when I enter my fairly narrow garage doors. It's also handy at the car wash. I see no particular advantage to have them automatically fold when the engine is turned off.
My local dealer has a LTZ raised up on a display ramp so you can see the undercarriage. I was very impressed with the “Rack and Pinion steering arrangement” , the Spring over Coil suspension, and the Vibration Isolator in the exhaust system, However I am most definitely disappointed in the non replaceable, non greasable ball joints in both the upper and lower control arms. Although the lower control arm ball joint seams to be substantial, it seams to be a interracial part of the aluminum control arm. The upper ball joint seams undersized and again seams to be a interracial part of the upper (steal) control arm. In both cases, the ball joints appear to be sealed and non-serviceable (greasable). Anyone else have any info on this subject or note any other substantial changes?
The antenna at the right rear window is for the AM/FM Radio. The antenna for the onstar and xm radio is on the roof over the driver area. GPS is located in the front I/P by the front window scheild.
A national newspaper is looking to interview consumers who just purchased or are looking to purchase a large SUV. Please send an e-mail to ctalati@edmunds.com no later than Wednesday May 10, 2006 by 5:00 PM PST/8:00 PM EST containing your daytime contact information and the vehicle you are interested in purchasing or just purchased (please provide approx. date of purchase).
I believe they were saying the front Instrument Panel (I/P). If I understand correctly, the GPS receiver is located in the same area that the light sensor is on the front dash (that little grey knob looking thing).
Has anyone heard anything about when 20" chrome be will available? Their web site says you can order them when you order your 07, but I ordered mine before they put that on web (already have mine, it came in 2/21).
GOT MY WINDOWS TINTED YESTERDAY. THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASS. NO EFFECT ON GPS AT ALL. IT IS 3M WINDOW FILM, IT DOES NOT HAVE THE METALLIC FILM IN IT, MAYBE THAT IS WHAT THE MANUAL IS TALKING ABOUT.
I can't speak on the '07, but on the prev-gen Denalis, those two antennas are for OnStar and XM. The GPS antenna used for the factory nav is located underneath the front dashpad behind the windshield.
What state do you live in that legally permits tint film to be placed over the entire windshield? I know that windshield visor strips are permitted as long as they are of a certain size and placed across the very top of the windshield, but I can't imagine any state allowing tint film to cover the entire windshield. Heck, many states don't even allow any kind of tint film to be placed on driver and front-passenger side windows. Besides, there are reasons why such tint laws are in place for not allowing tinting of entire windshields and/or front windows...put yourself in a LEO's shoes walking up to a vehicle you just pulled over at night and you'll see why many jurisdictions frown upon tinting on such places.
Not speaking directly to you, but unless the tint used is of a very light shade, I really cannot see how one could justify putting tint over the entire front windshield--medical reason or not. I mean, what happens if/when you need to drive at night? I can't imagine how anyone could argue that one's medical condition trumps the safety of others when it comes to operating a motor vehicle. Not to say that concessions/exceptions can't/shouldn't be made, but it has to be done so within reason.
In California - California Vehicle Code section 26708.5 does not allow a person to "place, install, affix, or apply any transparent material upon the windshield, or side .... if the material alters the color or reduces the light transmittance of the windshield or side..."
I have a drivers side door rattle. Only really presents itself at slower speeds (under 30mph) while going over some roughness in the road. Anyone experience similar rattle? It's driving me crazy!

I understand that normal windshields with laminated glass still transmit about 1% of the incident UV.
