Hello...please let me have your feedback on this deal (vehicle is in IL, but dealer will write a lease for MI)

    2018 330i Touring

    MSRP $53,935
    Sales price $39,995
    RV $27,154

    .00182 MF and 60% residual
With over 5000 miles, you lose 4% on the residual, plus another $0.25 per mile
Also, you lose the lease credit.

With an estimated residual of $28,654 and an adjusted CAP of $40,920, I get $495/mo.+6% tax = $524/mo.
That's including the marked up money factor.

But, their residual is $27,154. I don't know how they are coming up with that. Are you certain on the MSRP? The bottom line of the government window sticker is the only number that matters. Maybe, that includes some dealer installed options.

The residual difference is why my numbers don't match their numbers.

In a general sense, $565/mo. for a $54K MSRP BMW isn't a bad deal... but, it's a loaner. It's supposed to be a killer deal.

I have a new quote that I want to run past the experts.

    2018 340xi manual

    MSRP: 64,015
    Adjusted price: 55,063
    Maintenance: 600
Shipping: 1115 (shipping from CO to TN)
    Total: 56,778
    Tax: 464.77
    Title and Acquisition: 963
    Net Price: 58,204.97
    Cash Down: 2000
    Balance: 56,204.97
    60% Residual
    .00182 MF

    36/12: 721

Seems high but maybe not. Thoughts?

Hello, can I get MF and RV on 18 340i xdrive 36/12k for 89117 please?

    2018 330xi (loaner w 4,920 miles)

    MSRP: 49,785
    "Internet price": 41,900
    Cash Down: 4000
    57% Residual
    .00222 MF
    36/10: $489

I'm turning in my current lease w 3 remaining payments due, which the dealer has marked as "included in the rate".

    1) Should my three remaining payments factor into my new lease numbers at all? Since a lease is basically paying for use of the car, it doesn't make much sense to me to continue paying for a car I've already turned in. No?
    2) It seems he's milking the MF. I need to negotiate that down.
    3) It seems he's claiming the "internet price" is a result of him knocking a bunch off the msrp. Am I wrong in expecting additional cap cost reduction on top of what is already advertised, or is the $41,900 already a good deal?
    4) kyfdx let me know there's a $3000 lease credit in my area. Does that subtract from the "internet price" or is it rolled into the existing reduction in msrp?
    5) Does the fact that it's a loaner change the residual or MF? Does the $3,000 lease credit not apply to a loaner?

    Thanks in advance!

A few questions as I am new to this forum:

    1. Can someone please advise what MF stands for and what is it
    2. People keep asking for the MF and residual- can someone please explain how you use those in figuring out what a lease price should be

Lastly, I have received two emails from two different dealerships about a VIP event on Thursday - One Day Sales Event- does anyone have any info on this? are the deals really that good?

    1. MF is money factor, which is basically the leasing term for the interest rate. Money factor is written in decimal form like .00182. To get the interest rate you multiply that number by 2400.
    2. MF and residual are both key components of a lease calculation. Low MF is the same as low APR on a finance deal. Higher residual means the car is worth more at the end of the lease, which is beneficial to you.

I suggest googling "negotiating a lease" or looking on Leasehackr for more info.

The MF is marked up the max allowed.

The 57% residual is for 36/15; it's possible the dealer didn't make the adjustment for 10K

Don't try to prove the MF; simply tell them you want the base rate (they know what it is), or you'll find a dealer more accommodating.

Well, that's good to know. I thought he and I were "friends"! /s
Does the fact that the car I'm looking at is a loaner effect the residual? Is that maybe where he's getting 57% instead of 60%?
  • drm1283drm1283 Member Posts: 7
I should also point out that the loaner car I'm looking at has 4,920 miles. Given that it's below 5,000 it should still be eligible for the $3,000 lease incentive and 60% residual, right? Is it at 5,000 miles that they lose residual and incentives?

Deduct $1230 from residual to account for the mileage
Divide $1230 by the MSRP to get the percentage residual reduction below 60%.

Yes, if it's below 5000 miles, the residual reduction for mileage is the only adjustment.

When dealing with an "Internet price" on a car, should the $3,000 lease incentive be subtracted from that, or should the buyer understand that $3,000 was part of the discounts that brought the car to that "internet price"? For instance, $49,000 msrp brought down to $41,000 "internet price" available just browsing the website. Should we be able to then knock that to $38,000?

Probably not - often, the prices quoted on the web are for purchase, not lease, and may include different incentives. Ask the dealer for a price valid with the lease.

First I would like to thank you far all of your help during my car search. It really has been helping.

What should I target as a discount off MSRP for a demo? I am currently at 13%, but think I should go for more. Is there a rule of thumb?

Also, dealer is marking MF up to .00222 and will not budge. He is saying they are not making any money on the car other than the markup on financing, and invoice is 1500 over selling price. Suggestions on what I can ask them to adjust, other than MF, to get the price down?

Here is the deal. By the way it does not yet include a $1000 discount from an OL code :

We've always suggested you target 12-15% off MSRP for a demo BMW, so you're in that range.

I suggest you reach out to a second dealer - most dealers will not negotiate against themselves.

Hi.  I have a sales tax question on a potential 3 lease (please let me know if I should be in a different forum).  I am working with a dealer in another state.  The dealer’s state charges sales tax on incentives and up-front km the value of the car.  My state of residence does not tax incentives but does tax the monthly payment amount.

I believe that the state of residence tax treatment applies for the monthly payment.  What about for lease cash or loyalty?  Would those be separately taxed?

    Thanks!

Your local tax obligations should apply.

Lease cash and loyalty are incentives; if your state does not tax them, then you should be good.

Can you tell us which two states you are referring to?

    Yeah... tell us which state.

If your state taxes the monthly payment, then it's likely they also tax rebates and other CAP reductions.

    24/15
    .00182 MF
    63%/64% residual for 320/340
    $3000 lease credit

36/15 residuals are just 6% lower, and the payment will go way down.

    .00182 and 67% / 61%

The incentives seem to be missing for South Florida. I'm sure there are some, just don't know what size.
