I sent an information request to GM in April, got a reply today that I need to contact a local dealer for the information I need. The dealer told me to send request to Gm corporate to begin with, so neither one of them can give me an answer, just needed specs and what altinator and starter go on a GM 4.3 liter V6 cast iron engine. the dealer couldn't find anything in his books, engine is marked on the side GM 4.3L V6 and on the top back has serial number with a repeat if the markings on the side, dealer couldn't ID engine even with it at the GM shop.
On the side of the alternator there will be embossed data which include the amperage output maximum for the alternator. Just check the alternator. Ditto for the starter numbers.
easy to do if shop hadn't already taken them off and sent them in as cores and attempted to put the wrong parts on. ripped the GM v6 engine out and now have a 350 v8 in it, it is a better engine and can get the starter and alternator at any auto shop.
the dealer told me at first that they don't make a cast iron V6, till I brought it in, as for the engine it is gone sold it. chevy 350 with 4 bolt mains is a much better engine, it may be older but every shop carries parts for it, it has aftermarket 4 valve heads on it titanium pushrods, edlebrock intake and holly throttle body fuel injection, funny part is it still uses less gas than the v6.
I hope this isn't the prelude to anything ugly and that you two can reach an accord before someone has a fit. It would be a shame for you to pilot this thread over the ridgeline on an odyssey that we'll all regret.
Yea well dealer has no real clue as to what they sell or have sold and corporate took around 5 months to tell me to try to contact the dealer, looks like neither has any clue or too damn lazy to look up the information.
Initial Quality means NOTHING. what is that vehicle doing in 2 to 4 years and 30,000+ miles later. every domestic vehicle i have had that was made after the mid 70's had always need major parts around the 30k mile mark, and getting the dealers to do warranty was impossible in most cases, friend of mine is now in battle with Dodge dealer, has 3k miles on a new truck and transfer case ate itself because there was almost no oil at all in it, dealer is saying it was his responsibility to make sure everything was properly lubed and will not cover repairs, well you buy a BRAND new truck it had damn well better be ready to drive.
Did he call Chryslers, customer service number ? I'd be really upset if that happened to me....
Has he tried another dealer ? I like I said would take action even if it meant consulting with a lawyer and threatening the dealership. This is an area where the Big 3 have struggled in. They have dealerships that ruin customer service experiences and people don't want to come back to there product. Chrysler, is among the worst. I would never buy a new chrysler product because of there horrible dealership service. Tell him to keep his chin up because I've had my 1996' Dodge Ram 3/4 ton in the shop well over a month now and my wife said they finally have fixed it. I'm suppose to go pick it up tommorow. :surprise:
Working on it, his lawyer told him to jump through all of the dealers hoops first and record everything,. one problem is that is the only Chrysler/Dodge dealer in in the area. Worst part is the dealer suckered him into buying the extended warranty for $2,750.00. I told him to not buy anything from them.
Easy, buying American means buying GM. GM is American as Apple pie and Baseball, it is the base for which our economy is built on. They are what keeps America alive and without them we would be living in a third, make that a 4th world country.
To me, buying American is buying the best vehicle that is designed, built, and sold here whether it be Buick, POntiac, Cadillac or good ol' Chevrolet. Sure, the imports claim to have facilities here and they employ our people but they don;t employ 10% of the workforce here so they might as well not bother in the first place. If all profits go to the home country, what good is it for this Country?
Think about that the next time you pass a GM dealer on your way to buy your next car. You might as well hop a boat straight to Japan.
I'll give you Chrysler there not american any more.. but Ford is just as American as GM
Your right about GM leading in sales for almost 100 years, but as a GM/Ford guy i hate to admit it but Toyota is about to take the title from GM . Am sure if Toyota becomes #1 they wont be able to hold on to it for very long, because GM is going to be on their tail, until they take it back.
I don't care who or where my car/truck is built as long it is well built and if anything needs to be done dealer will do it not come up with excuses to not do it. as for GM, 1989 buick regal limited T-type , engine and tranny blown at 37k miles, 1k miles out of warranty, cause for engine and tranny blow out failed main bearings in engine at 65 mph, put rod through back of block and through tranny, before that one had same year that had entire electrical system fail after 1 month. GM in my experience does not make a quality product, see to many saturn's broke down on the side of the road to think that my experience was unique, also friends experience with Chevy s-10 (another Gm product) no drain plug for front differential paint would not stay on, body rusted, re painted 1 to 2 times every year for entire warranty , when it expired they would not fix the problem, vehicle had electrical problems and 4 wheel drive system kept failing.
see my earlier post about GM engine and the 5+ months it took GM to reply and tell me to contact the dealer, dealer told me to contact GM direct to begin with.
Well, they made at least 2 good cars back then - my 1988 Buick Park Avenue and my 1989 Cadillac Brougham.
I think what plagues GM is inconsistency. Lemons like that 1989 Buick Regal T-type or that S-10 Blazer described above could come off the line or ultra-reliable, bullet-proof cars like Park Ave and Brougham.
I remember those beautiful RWD 1980s Regals like the Grand National. The RWD 1980s Cutlass Supreme coupes were also beautiful cars. GM totally ruined the Regal when it went FWD in 1988. They turned one of Buick's most beautiful cars into one of its crappiest. Remember those goofy door handles in the pillar? I swear Roger Smith was King Midas in reverse. He could touch gold and it would turn into crap. I hope he goes to the same place as Saddam Hussein when he passes on.

2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,

Try used car lots and check one's alternator rating when you find a lot with a car like yours.

BC- Infamy- a word seldom used since Toyota sales hit 2,000.000.
That's good, because if their cars only went in reverse, they wouldn't be very practical.

Who has led the worldwide sales charts for almost 100 years? Who will continue to lead for the next 100 years?
Our biys at GM thankyou very much

Make a car with top notch materials, good styling, and marketing campaigns that don't kill brand equity, and things might change.
