Not only did those Buicks have presence, they were, perhaps the best cars on the road in those days. Tough, solid cars that lasted a long time.

It would have helped if the list author knew something about cars. And although "ugly" is subjective, some of his comments are way off base. For example, the following quote about the Mercedes-Benz CL...

"It may have been a competent cruiser, but it was almost as if Mercedes couldn't be bothered to style the CL. The rear end looks like it was copied from the Lexus LS 430."

The CL is the coupe version of the W140 S Class sedan, and shares its rear styling. Both clearly evolved from the W126.

And the Lexus LS400 certainly copied the MB design, not the other way around.

Yes. Heard he's ill on the replacement's talk show. Any info on the illness; the host wouldn't address it when a caller asked? Pict was on the facebook page.

I thought I'd seen the red Thunderbird in that picture at the cemetery cruise-in, but I think the one that was there was a red hardtop. For others reading here, a large cruise-in is held at the old Spring Grove cemetery (and arboretum), holding graves of Proctor, Gamble, Kroger, etc., in Cincinnati. At the end of the cruise they were doing a 3-mile parade of the cars through the hundreds of acres of the cemetery.

Yes, there was a special section in front of the funeral home on the circle drive for the hearses and related funereal vehicles.

We always vote early, as in 2 weeks ago.

Seeing those cars and the flag reminds me of that current Chrysler commercial where George Washington and the troops are driving Chryslers and come charging over a hill toward a bunch of Red Coats who turn tail and run away. The background music is outstanding and quite stirring. I think it is the best commercial on TV.

    No offense driver !!

Homophones give trouble to many people.

I'm not prejudice, they treat me fine.

Maybe I should explain that a homophone is a word that is pronounced like another word with a different meaning, whether spelled the same or differently. :shades:

Well, we did win the Battle of Stoney Creek - Niagara in 1812.
Battle 1812 Stoney Creek (we discussed that a long time ago)

I think the ad you are thinking of is this one:
    Dodge Challenger and George Washington

I am not so sure about the ad. I like the Challenger, but the ad doesn't make me want to go out and buy one. If it scared away some Taliban guys that would be better. Besides, the enemy in this case is about as friendly a country you could have...why bring up old wounds to try to make a point. I don't know....cars and war and patriotism...guess you got to do what you got to do to sell cars.

I actually did look that one up before I posted, but I was just having some fun. It is another learning experience for me today.

Now, I have one for you, without looking it up, do you know what "paraprosdokian sentences are?

    A paraprosdokian sentence:

A (from Greek meaning "beyond expectation") is a figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected in a way that causes the reader or listener to reframe the first part. It is frequently used for humorous or dramatic effect, sometimes producing an anticlimax

    Some examples:
Ø I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.

Ø Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Ø The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it's still on the list.

Ø Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

Ø If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong.

Ø We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

Ø War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

Ø Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

Ø The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Ø Evening news is where they begin with 'Good evening', and then proceed to tell you why it isn't.

Now, hopefull you have learned something today too.

There you will see this one:

But, I won't quote the other Churchill one in case it upsets some people.

Actually the discussion was what causes backups during rush hour. Is there a forum for that (other than the inconsiderate drivers forum)?

No, but the hosts of the auto news board will gladly let you create such a discussion, all on your own. They're not like us here in smart shopper, where the hosts rule discussion creation with an iron fist. (I can't imagine what you people would do with that kind of power!)

If I recall correctly, the first major proponent of using vitamin C to ward off colds was Linus Pauling who recommended taking high doses of it every day - forever.

If I was the owner of 2000 acres of orange groves I'd say the same thing.

I'll bet our resident tomato/flower farmer is an advocate of Italian food and large flower bouquets for Mothers Day. :shades:

Day two of Florida and the G6. So far so good on both matters. The stereo, while it looks like a relic, sounds OK.

Tomorrow it gets interesting as we do a Disney day.

For the first time in all the years we've come down here they are launching a space shuttle on Wednesday. NASA says teh best free place to go is Titusville. Maybe we'll give that a try. Have always wanted to do that. It's one of those still on teh list items like seeing a total solar eclipse.

He had more power than you did (and probably more weight).

I defiantly had more weight, and I did have more power (evident by my ability to out accelerate him and pass him on hills), he had a higher cadence than me (evident by his ability to outrun me on flats and downgrades).

No problem. But, if changes are too big there might not be a driver100 or richard64 listed. We might need a Plan B.

I don't have a facebook account, but maybe a driver100 or richard64 account could be opened. Trying not to get too worried, but what if we all disappear?

we will not disappear, although we might need to find a new category to post in.
the change may not be a bad thing.
one time, i saw a picture i posted in one of my carspace albums on the main page.
it was not a Brett Favre type picture, but i was surprised and shocked to see it, when i did not expect it.
i guess i accepted something so it that it could be shown to everyone.
don't worry, it was just a picture of my mustang.

Like any other vehicle a bike is only as good as the engine powering it.

Weighing 148 lbs gives me some distinct advantages in hilly terrain over those cyclists who weigh 180, 200, 225 lbs no matter how light their bike might be.

I weigh 225 and on a road bike on the road I will easily lose 95% of people who are on commuter bikes when I am on the road bike. I do a lot of training and work on the legs, I do have the power to make up for the extra weight.

Not a very credible list... the Aztek didn't make it.

I agree if the Azteks not on the list it can't be right. Actually there were a few cars that while rather plane aren't really that bad.

FWIW I knew someone that had an Avanti and I almost married a woman who had a Subaru XT.

That is a beautiful picture of Old Glory. I also like your choice of the red, white, and blue cars. Tomorrow is a very important day in the life of our country. Regardless of who is and is not elected, I pray for the unemployed, the small business man, the children, the soldiers, and the elderly of our country. We need for good things to happen in America. Good leadership is so vital at this crucial point in our history. I'll be working part of the day at the polls. To have that freedom is a blessing in itself. I hope that all of you here will exercise that freedom tomorrow.

    Blessings,

Good idea...I will do that right now.

And, good luck in your elections today, you guys really need to get things moving again.
Our economy is dependent on your economy to a large degree. But, it isn't only for those reasons I hope your problems get solved...it's just that people who have worked hard and saved and planned should be able to live comfortable lives, and, people getting started should be able to work and plan for the future.

    Good luck!

I have to go and have my snow tires put on...$56 to change them at the dealers.
Also, my 30,000 mile maintenance gets done....that is NO CHARGE 4 year, 50000 miles service with the car (let's not discuss how it isn't really free again, to me it's free......I would have bought the car any way).
