I try not to break copy right laws or buy knock off merchandise as a rule. We could have bought beautiful "Gucci" handbags in China for $20...real ones are $400. We went to the knock off mall, called the Silk Factory in China. You can buy Polo shirts for $10...that would be $60 etc. I am glad I saw it, but I have no desire to buy the stuff. I bought the watch because the $15 it cost me was worth it in fun and entertainment value. I don't wear the watch....it is in the drawer and I would just wear it as a conversation piece, believe me, it is so clunky and cheap looking no sane person would even think it is a real Rolex. I sure didn't buy it to impress any one. I don't feel guilty, I bought the knock off as a silly souvineer, the guy who sold it was so happy he probably went home and told his family he sold a watch to a stupid tourist and overcharged him 10 extra bucks.
For $15 it was really worth the fun,...I didn't buy it to deceive any one or to take away business from the fine Rolex company. In fact, I took it to a watch repair to fix it, one of the posts came out. I said be careful with it, it's a Rolex that I brought back from Egypt, and he laughed his head off.
>Going nationwide was a major mistake. The dad allowed his boys to handle it---another major mistake.
Local quick market chain store, UDF of Cincinnati, has Krispy Kreme donuts delivered about 9:30 pm supposedly fresh for the morning donut crowd. Only 10 hours old that way. I don't think they sell many anymore.
I recall when I lived near Cincinnati and drove 4-5 miles to a Krispy Kreme on Sunday morning for a real fresh donut product (bismark?) and morning paper along with coffee. Now that was living.
I could get $19,500 as a trade in on my car. What would a dealership typically list it for, $23,995? And sell for $22,000
I think you are low on what the dealer will sell for. The dealer has to build in $1500 to $2000 worth of work to bring the car up to selling standards, then has to guaranty it, and make $2000 profit. So I think he would want to sell it for $23,500 minimum...more if he can get it.
Not really. Income is irrelevant to the transaction.
I'm looking at costs. Would McDonald's charge Bill Gates a million bucks for a Big Mac? It just doesn't make sense.
Now if were talking about traffic fines/citations, I think their might be some validity in making fines a % based fine based on income, since $500 hurts the guy working for minimum wage a heck of a lot more than it hurts Bill Gates.

I took my wife's car to BMW today because the tires were making buzzing noises on the highway. The car is coming up to the 4 year warranty period. I hate taking it in for a noise thing, because if it isn't a real noise they will think I am crazy. The sent me out with a mechanic and he heard the noise too....thank goodness!
He said the tires were worn down a bit and the run flats might be noisier. I have to bring it back on Wednesday when they have more time. They will check the alignment just to make sure that is good and they will do any factory recall stuff before the 4 year warranty is up.
This was at Dealer A, and the nice salesman came walking through, the one I didn't buy from because of the Sales Manager. He shook hands and asked how I was doing. I wanted to say great, I bought a car from another dealer, I got a 2012 for a little more than you wanted for a 2011 demo with 2000 miles on it, but I didn't...I said, nice to see you, I have to pick up my car now.
I have little or no mechanical or technical ability, but the toilet wouldn't stop running. Actually ran all night, don't want to see that water bill. Replaced the flapper, which I have done before, but that didn't fix it.
Checked online and found it is the float device. There are two kinds, the ball type which is fairly easy to fix. Then the post type, where the post has to be removed. I was trying to do it from the inside but was getting nowhere. So I found this guy on youtube that explains how you unscrew it from under the tank. Fixing the float device
Now it is all fixed but this whole thing is pretty crude for the 21st Century. Like I mean, we can send a man to the moon and they still make a toilet with little chains, and a big hulky plastic thing that just can't snap into place?
When I was a kid, there was a real Krispy Kreme in Portsmouth, Ohio (late '60s, early '70s).. they had fantastic doughnuts...
When they started expanding, earlier this century in the Cincinnati area, went in one time, hoping to get their signature doughnut, as they make them on a visible conveyor... fresh and hot! "Sorry.... we are out... won't have anymore for four hours."
They have them in Krogers, but they are almost always stale...
Now.. about Pittsburgh? They put french fries on their sandwiches... not sure I want to hold them up as a paragon of gastronomy... I did get pierogies at PNC Park, though.. :P
Rite Aid is a funny story really. I got a cheap watch from them as a teenager; were talking something like $12.50. I decided I didn't want it a few DAYS later, but didn't have the receipt (just couldn't find it). I went in to the store still expecting to get my money back as the watch was as good as new in every way having only had it a couple days. The store "manager" decides that he can only give me "today's sale" price back as a refund, since I didn't have my receipt; at least, that was his excuse. The sale price was $7.50 I believe. I demanded all of my money back, and the manager insisted the computer was pulling up $7.50 because that was the current sale price!
I asked him when the sale had begun. He responded with "today." Since it was a Saturday morning, I just pretty much gave him a look raising my hands to say "come on man, see what I mean!" I obviously didn't go into buy the watch earlier in the morning just to return it an hour later, and argue with him for more money! The fact that the sale price had just started, proved I had to have paid the higher previous price, and it was only fair to return my money in full, 100% refund for the merchandise. He still refused, and that is the last time I've spent any money in a Rite Aid (I hear and read they are almost out of business too). I will admit, one time I made an exception and stepped into a Rite Aid to buy a fan, but I didn't like doing it, only did it out of convenience to me, and rationalized it wasn't the same Rite Aid that had cheated me at least (different city).
That store manager committed a bunch of cardinal sins: 1) Losing a customer for life (even worse, a teenager with lots more years to live!) over a piddly amount of money. 2) The customer is always right, and his basic argument came down to I was wrong, I was lying, and trying to commit a fraud. 3) Not using common sense and reasonableness! 4) Ugly Nasty Poor Customer Service
Longs Drugs (they are gone now) Wal-Mart, and Target have benefited thanks to that guy.
The others I can understand, but it is best to just move on.
Well, I was ready to move on, along with the rest of the world, but the US Gov't figured they'd keep GM and Chrysler alive despite the populace and citizenry having voted with their wallets. So now it goes on.
Andre, I thought your list of likes was interesting. Why do you like Honda, Audi and Toyota, and what do you drive now.
I've never personally owned a Toyota, but I did drive a Camry for about 2 years after my Neon had to be aborted at 65,000 miles. My parents bought a 1995 Camry (the one I borrowed), a late 90's 4Runner, a 2001 Camry V6, and all have been extremely super reliable and dependable. They sold the 4Runner to a cousin that kept it a long time. My brother has owned Toyota trucks T100, Tundra, all without any issues. He now owns a Corolla thanks to $4 gas. My parents also had an '82 Accord 5-speed sedan that survived a 45+ MPH rear-end accident and kept on ticking after that licking, but it had to be totalled according to the insurance company for "frame damage" (though I suspect the insurance company committed a fraud and sold that car for more than they gave my parents I bet; I mean; it was still running for goodness sakes!).
I've personally had a great experience buying a '92 Civic for the Fiance at 165,000 miles for $3,500 in 2002, then two years later, sold it at 200,000 miles for $2,700 (how's that for resale value!?). I bought a brand new 2003 Accord LX Coupe V6 in November of 2002. Cost of repairs taking that thing to 65,000 miles was $0.00; as I had figured. At 50 months old with those 65K miles I sold it for 53% of my out the door costs from new! Got myself the 2006 Audi A3 which I still have today with 82,000 miles. Honda stepped up on a transmission issue at 42,000 miles and handled the situation extremely well, didn't cost me a dime for a brand new 5 speed auto. Audi acted similarly with the AC system/compressor at 53,000 miles. Still waiting on a letter from Dodge for reimbursement on Head Gaskets that fail at 45K, Auto Tranny that fails at 60K, and AC compressor that fails at 36.1K miles, but I'm not holding my breath.
A3 is the best car I've ever owned. Maybe not the most reliable, but certainly the best. It has been pleasantly reliable (and I'm picky; so not flawless like the Toyotas). The A3 is the car the 1995 Neon should have been! (okay, at least 50% of the car considering the price differential, but Dodge delivered 5%, and that's being generous). Haven't needed a tow truck yet, so the score is 0 for the Germans, 0 for the Japanese, and 4 for the Dodge. And in the tow truck game, it's like golf, where lower is better.

Southern staples are Biscuits and Gravy, Pork Rinds, Krispy Kreme Donuts all washed down with a Nehi and a Moon Pie.
My mom is from Tennessee; I thought it was an RC Cola you had with the Moon Pie.
Krispy Kreme had been a regional business here for many years. Going nationwide was a major mistake. The dad allowed his boys to handle it---another major mistake.
The first time I had a Krispy Kreme was in Las Vegas ... there was a store inside the Excalibur Hotel and Casino, with a large window to watch the donuts being made.
When the first KK opened up in the Denver area, there was also a lot of media attention paid to it ... long lines both inside and out. They were good, but the initial interest waned after a bit. Now if were talking about traffic fines/citations, I think their might be some validity in making fines a % based fine based on income, since $500 hurts the guy working for minimum wage a heck of a lot more than it hurts Bill Gates.
I think this is what they do in Europe. I've seen a couple of articles that reference wealthy individuals who have gotten fines of 10's or 100's of thousands of dollars.
nyc, my Edmunds trade value was $9,000 on the Escape. I paid $13,000 11 months ago. Mustang store wanted to give me $7,500 and hold firm on his full MSRP.
I've checked Edmunds for the trade value of my ION. Average condition is $5K, while good condition would supposedly bring $6K in trade (add $1K to each number for a private party sale). Not sure that I could get a dealer to give me that much.
Isalys just doesn't leave the local market much, does it?
Interesting that you mention Isalys. The week week before going to Myrtle Beach Mrs. j didn't want to do too much grocery shopping and while I was rooting through the freezer for a good ole steak, I saw a container of barbque sauce that she made a while back. I said, "hey, this otta work for one night". She said, "I should have known you'd find that in there. Eating that isn't the healthiest, ya know". I said, "I wasn't looking for health food, I was trying to save you from having to do a meal from scratch this week". The reply was, "oh, alright I'll pick up a pound of that "fat" for tomorrow night".
I've mentioned this before, her barbque sauce puts Isalys to shame. That was a great quick meal with potato salad. FWIW, I was thinking of you and 'jayrider' when I was eating those great tasting sandwiches. I'd have posted you guys one but it would have lost something in the transmission. Not quite the same as being there.

This is current practice with MANY retailers even today. I understand your logic that it just went on sale that morning. How did the manager know when you bought it? Yes, obviously, you didn't buy it that morning, but you certainly could have bought it the last time it was on sale. Stores repeat many of the same ads every few weeks.
Next time I have to install a toilet I'm getting the air assisted type. I first came across them at Disney, and when I talked to Houskeeping about them they told me that they will even flush towels, which I completely believe!
They're so powerful you feel you have to take a step away from it when you flush.

Round Table Pizza, lousy pizza. Then again every chain pizza place has lousy pizza.
I don't know any chain that comes even close to Round Table quality, not even in the same league. That being said, there is a big variance among different stores in the chain; you might have tried a bad location.
Cheesecake Factory, overpriced average quality food and lousy customer service.
I've gotten good service, and good food. One time (my first visit), I got an amazingly cooked salmon that was one of the best I've ever had, of course, in subsequent visits it wasn't nearly that amazing, so the verdict is still out.

I have a feeling, from what I've heard of good retailers, that they will still take a receiptless return no questions asked (Wal-Mart, Macy's, Target). However, in recent years, there has been a trend to crack down on people abusing the system (for instance, Crutchfield makes you pay for your own return shipping now; too many people taking too much advantage and renting electronics for 30 days for free probably).
At a minimum, I'd of been satisfied with a store credit for the full amount, as a compromise. Needless to say, I've always been careful to read the fine print at stores for return policy, and I'm very careful to keep receipts. My wife bought me a belt at Burlington Coat Factory, my return experience there reminds me to add them to the "DO NOT USE EVER AGAIN list."

Obviously I'm missing something here. You bought a watch and after a few days you decided you didn't like it. You decide to return it without a receipt and expect to get your money back. That's the part I don't get. The store has no obligation to take it back just because you had buyers remorse. What should they do with it then; would you be happy to purchase someone else's return as a new product? Then, the situation escalates to the point where you are demanding repayment in full when you're only offered the current price, even though the fact that the store is making any refund at all is purely a courtesy on their part.
I'm sorry, but judging by all the other perceived wrongs that you've posted have happened to you, you sound like the customer from hell to me!
I'm sure you'll say I'm wrong, but you certainly give the impression from your posts that your life is a series of confrontations, one after another.

"I didn't buy it to deceive any one or to take away business from the fine Rolex company."
You're not going to win this argument, no matter how much you rationalize your purchase. Someone made that watch---probably in a sweat shop run by criminals. Silly souvineer or not, you bought it. You're as guilty as I was. I didn't buy those bags with the intention of hurting Gucci or Dooney Bourke. I bought them because they were a good price and looked good. If my wife's friends choose to think that they are the real thing, then that's their choice. We're not advertising it either way. We don't say, "Look at my Gucci bag." I now know better and you do as well.
I'm not going to be the heavy here. Who knows, even with name brands, the conditions within the walls of factories? With nearly everything that we buy now being made overseas, who knows the plight of the laborers abroad? My niece went to fashion design school in Italy for two years. She told horror stories about the factories there. Those factories were making clothes by famous designers. It's not always just the fakes or the seconds that are infiltrated by the criminal element or poor management. I'm not picking on Italy. You would find such things going on in France, Japan, and other countries.
I don't think so. I'd argue MOST companies do however, accept returns without a receipt, so I wouldn't consider myself lucky they took it back and stole money from me.
Facts are facts, they are near bankruptcy, so I can't be the only customer they've screwed over.

I stopped at my local Ford store to look at the Fusion and the Taurus. (The Taurus is BIG.) The salesman, an acquaintance, greeted me and asked what I was looking for. I mentioned a Fusion Sport AWD. They didn’t have any on the lot right now, but he suggested I drive an SEL to see if I like them.
I decided I would since it could have been eliminated right there if I didn’t like it.
What happened next surprised me. He said he would get one of his assistants to find one and get the temp. plate and keys. I sort of chuckled until I saw he was serious.
There are young(er) girls who get the keys and plates and go with you on the test drive. The salesman stays at the store. I thought that was odd.

For all I know they put the item on sale for the sole purpose of discouraging returns and building in a "restocking fee."
The fact of the matter is there was no lower price (most likely) in the last 60, 90, or 1,000 days for that watch, than what I paid for it, until that same day I was visiting the store. So unless I bought it THAT day, it makes no sense for them to deny me a refund. I try to avoid paying cash at all times at retailers for this reason. I pay with a credit card and pay it off in full every month. Gives me back-up power to backcharge someone in the event of a dispute.

Actually, in the grand scheme of things (big picture), I'm against all traffic enforcement as it currently exists.
The whole thing exists to transfer wealth from drivers to the Gov't. But it is unfair, as it punishes the poor more than the rich. Afterall, the truly rich don't even have to drive, they hire a driver!
I think the Gov't is out of control and would support a reduction or elimination of traffic fines all together before I'd support an increase based on income! The system is too flawed to implement that "fairer" idea. Too many innocent drivers being convicted out there.

That store manager committed a bunch of cardinal sins:
1) Losing a customer for life (even worse, a teenager with lots more years to live!) over a piddly amount of money.

They're so powerful you feel you have to take a step away from it when you flush.

Don't run the grille inside the house.
It's very dangerous.
Never lost power, but did lose the cable/internet.

Got cable/internet back an hour or so ago, so now I can watch the pinstripes play tonight.
For the same reason an A3 is worth $5-10K more than a VW GTI or Mazda 3.
And I'd argue a GTI is a lot more similar to an A3 than a Mustang is to an M3, but I still say the A3 is substantially different than a GTI.
Good for you! I had a similar experience with K-Mart back in 1975 and had to put them into bankruptcy. I know I was kind of rough on them but they shouldn't have messed with me.

an IPOD can play a song, but a SACD or DVD-A with better sound quality can play that same song much better.
You can watch the Monday night football game on a "Westinghouse" TV screen, but the picture will be much better on a Sony XBR.

much nicer interior, more comfortable, better sound system?, better durability, better resale, better track times
Haha, Sears bailed out K-mart in some areas, there are still some K-Marts around in areas where people don't know any better.
Doubt that, if prices go down less of the product will be avaliable and prices will rise again.
Markets work well.

Nope it wasn't an excuse. Most companies have that policy. You were lucky they would take it back without a receipt.
2011 Hyundai Sonata, 2014 BMW 428i convertible, 2015 Honda CTX700D
Richard
I don't think so. I'd argue MOST companies do however, accept returns without a receipt, so I wouldn't consider myself lucky they took it back and stole money from me.
Facts are facts, they are near bankruptcy, so I can't be the only customer they've screwed over.
While I will say that it is good against others like Pizza hut and Dominos but it sadly lacking when put up against some of the small mom and pop places in and around Chicago. Stop by my place sometime and we will get pizza from the place I usually go to. Afterwards you will cry everytime you get Round tables pizza.
I've gotten good service, and good food.
Food was OK, know many more places that will blow them away with quality and lower prices. Last time I went to one I was told there would be a two hour wait (after refusing to take reservations earlier in the day), I walked out vowing never to return. Customer service starts with first contact with the customer, they failed.

Anyone else have that experience?

much nicer interior, more comfortable, better sound system?,
All subjective and will vary from one person to the other. Also not worth $25K more.
better durability,
Many people try to avoid BMW's out of warranty. Doesn't say much.
better resale,
How so, they depreciate faster.
better track times,
Actually not, statistically the same as the Mustang.
better maintenance program from dealer,
Needs it as they are very tempermential creaters that need love and understanding.

1) quality control
2) materials quality
3) interior design and quality
4) assembly quality
5) warranty
6) dealer service and support
7) Better (possibly) Engine ECU and Transmission ECU (DSG Dual Clutch) tweaking/programming.
8) Better design/looks (subjective)
9) More comfortable seats, higher quality leather
10) quieter, more sound dampening, tighter build quality and tolerances; less gaps/gap spacing.
11) Better Paint, fit and finish quality.
12) better suspension tuning (sports suspension option).
14) More color selection (inside and out).
15) Better reliability and durability
16) Built in Germany
I don't buy knockoffs but then again no one had offered me such a thing. I wouldn't say I'd never do such a thing.

Statistical or not, the 1st place trophy and gold medal goes to the BMW in a race.
Second place sucks!
Ford is happy with the Silver in a 2-car race!
You have the right to be wrong, but quit abusing that right. I know of no company that will take a return without a reciept at any price other than the current price. Some companies use the lowest price over the last 30 or 60 days.
Also companies with great customer service have filed for bankruptcy so I will take that your experience is the guage for their bankruptcy. Plus you weren't screwed by them, you screwed yourself.
