Please everybody, stop falling for andres3's baits. I'm not calling him a troll, but he's def. somebody who has a lot of hostility. I know it's hard, I've had to stop myself from answering a few of his posts. It won't accomplish anything except encouraging him.

So, since edmund's doesn't have an ignore feature, can we please just not reply to andres3's posts that are rants. If he starts contributing real posts, it'll be great, but until then, let's give him a time out.

Wal-Mart probably has the Hyundai of consumer buy-back/return/refund policies. 90 days, pretty much no questions asked. If not for Wal-Mart, probably no one would have a return period that long!

And if there is a bar code missing or incorrect, or your delivery doesn't come in at a specified time you are fined....$1000s of dollars
Yep, and what thanks we have for them for starting that practice! Many companies followed suit with it. We have to run reports nightly for any UPC or price changes to make sure it doesn't affect one of our customers who will fine us. Unreal.
Good link you posted. I skimmed it over quickly, will go back a read the whole thing.
Speaking of receipts, this happened to my wife recently. She bought a purse at Dillard's, which was on sale. After getting it home she discovered that one of the leather panels did not match up well with the rest of the purse.
She took the purse back the next day to exchange it, along with the receipt. The sales lady told her that the purse was no longer on sale and if she exchanged it she would have to pay the difference. My wife did not argue with her, she just said, call your supervisor. The supervisor said, of course it is an even exchange and put the huffy old sales lady in her place...then I had to listen to all the grisly details 3 or 4 times.
Living in California, bears are a big deal in campgrounds. They provide bear proof food lockers and dumpsters. You cannot leave any food or things with odor (think toiletries.) You can get fined over $1000 if the rangers catch you leaving food in your car.
BTW, for the guy in your story, it didn't matter that the window was open. The bear would've gotten in regardless.
I believe Walmart's business practices are well-known. However, people still support them, regardless of these practices because as kirstie pointed out, they've got a whole gaggle of customers and vendors/companies who will do business with them.
If Vlasik, Hoover, etc didn't didn't want to sell at Walmart's predetermined prices, no one was twisting their arm to do so.
That being said, I can count the times I've been in a Walmart store on one hand, and still have fingers left to count. I don't like the way the stores look. I don't like the people who shop there. I don't like the people who work there (although I don't begrudge them a job). They reflect the stinginess of the company with their stinginess of service and pleasant attitude.
I will gladly pay $1, $5, $10, $20 $50 more for the same item somewhere else as it's worth it to me not to have to go into a Walmart.
I had heard that P&G gave Walmart fits when/if they tried those tactics with their brands. P&G's HQ is a 30 minute drive from me. They flex their own muscles. I've heard tell from some of my neighbors who work for P&G that they told Walmart and Sam's Club if they wanted to carry some of the most well-known brands of consumer products in the world, that the WM way of doing business wouldn't fly. I guess until this day, if you see a P&G product and WM/Sam's, it was stocked under P&G's defined directive.
You are right. All those companies on your blacklist are horrible & should be shut down at once. Thank-you for showing us all the error of our ways for sometimes patronizing these profit-hungry jerks.
Thank you. I couldn't have worded or phrased it better myself. Except I'd change "Profit-hungry" to "greedy penny wise pound foolish."

The sales lady told her that the purse was no longer on sale and if she exchanged it she would have to pay the difference.
Now that is such a huge mistake that it would be worth writing over 100 posts about it and never going back for 60 years. You're wife had the RECEIPT.
Okay, so maybe Wal-Mart is ruthless. At least they've never given me trouble with a return.
Also, what I like about them is they have consistently low prices across the board, whereas other retailers might beat them in one product or one area, and gouge you in the other departments.
Grocery stores are horrible with the pricing schemes.

If Vlasik, Hoover, etc didn't didn't want to sell at Walmart's predetermined prices, no one was twisting their arm to do so.
In most cases, that isn't how it happens. In the case of Vlasik their pickles were supposed to be the #1 brand. They did a promotion for a gallon of pickles for $2.97. Normally a small jar was about $4. People would buy a jar at Walmart and not need more pickles for a year. They wanted to stop the promotion. Walmart said "no", if you pull your pickles (so to speak) we will remove all your profitable products from our shelves.
There's lots of stories like this. Walmart starts buying jewellery from a small company. They keep ramping up their buying. The guy loses his other customers and can only make enough jewellery for Walmart. That's when they tell him he has to lower prices if he wants to keep his one remaining customer. He goes under. Same with Huffy bikes and many mores.
The cards are stacked in their favor and they use that in a big way. Business is business, but that is ruthless!
I agree, pay a little more and shop elsewhere if you don't like it. I think they could do even better if they worked with suppliers rather than just try to take advantage of them.
How does one get roped into a contract? Was a gun to a head used?
First they hook the supplier...yes we will carry your product.
Then they make it impossible for the supplier to produce enough to supply other customers. Then, when Walmart is their last customer....and a big one, they demand lower prices and more profit margin.
It's the hook, line and sinker technique.
We have never wanted to sell our books into Walmart. Once you start they will be running your company. They will dictate what they will pay for your goods. The contract is all in their favor, and you certainly wouldn't want to sue one of the worlds largest companies.
I do agree with you about both you and driver being good people.
Should I get out my guitar and start us on a nice round of Kumbaya?
I've had no trouble with returns at Wal Mart. I haven't ever had to deal with them as a supplier but I know all the stories... Another thing I know is that they aren't always the low price. I remember years ago finding out that for big electronic items from big time manufacturers have unique serial numbers to make comparison shopping difficult. At the time I was comparing LCD TVs. You could buy what looked like the same item from Amazon and several other retailers for, say, $750. Wal Mart had what looked to be the same thing at the same price. A closer look revealed that the Wal Mart set was decontented.

I love the old folks worrying about their social security and medicare while they drive a vehicle by a foreign company and built in a foreign country. "But give us our free social security and medicare even though we don't buy US products by US workers," they demand. Hmmmmm.

As everyone here knows I am born and raised a Pittsburgher. I know it is heresy in this area to not like pirogues but I never liked them no matter who made them. I also think the Piranti’s sandwich is over rated but those I can eat.
The story behind that sandwich is pretty interesting. It goes like this:
The sandwich has very large slices of Italian bread, several types of lunch meat, lettuce, tomatoes, etc with coleslaw and then fries are stacked on top. It came about because of truck drivers who delivered produce to the Pittsburgh Strip District in the wee hours of the morning, like 2 AM. After driving for many hours and waiting/unloading their cargo they were famished and wanted to eat but didn’t have time to sit down because they had to start out for their next produce pick up many miles away. The owner of Piranti’s in the Strip decided to make the sandwich I just described and the truckers would then take it and head out for the highway.
Anyone who seen one of those beasts knows you can’t take a bite out of that thing straight on. You gotta sneak up on it from the side and nibble away at it. I have trouble with them no matter how I do it; regardless of me having a big mouth like Mrs. jmonroe says. It’s good but not as good as it is big but it sure does get a lot of hype whenever there are sporting events played here in the Burgh. Of course Piranti’s knows this so they send up sandwiches and drinks to the broadcast crew. Pretty cheap national advertising, huh?

My favorite story is when I was managing a Sprint store. This was back when they had dummy "prop" type phones that we could show to customers. The fake batteries even came off like on real phones. One day one of the prop phones ended up missing the fake battery. The next day someone tried to return it saying that it wouldn't take a charge.

What are they selling for on a lot? Take $2500 to $3000 off that price.
My neighbor took his 2003 Mercedes to the MB dealer to see about trading it in on a new C Class. His car looks nice, he is in his early 80s and keeps his car very nice. They said they weren't interested in it as a trade in.
This MB dealer is like my arrogant BMW Dealer A....I think they have an unlisted phone number they are so arrogant. Act like they are doing you a favor by knocking $1000 off on a new car and giving you nothing for your trade.
It would be worth seeing what they actually are selling for.
Thanks very much for your concern. The workman were there today making preliminary repairs and coverings for the real work which is to begin in a few weeks. So many good folks are in the same boat. It will take time and patience before everyone can be helped. I, too, am so glad that they were with us for the weekend. They are going to their home in Florida for a long Labor Day. The house there was untouched, so they will be able to relax, regroup, and plan for the future. Thanks again.
Thanks Dan. They might not have been here had it not been my BIL's 80th birthday. We had planned a big celebration for him....dinner and dancing at the elegant Pinehurst Hotel. We all presented him with a green and white (Michigan State colors) golf cart. We had his name done in gold letters on the hood. He just loved it. Now if we can get him to retire so that he can enjoy it. Perhaps in a strange sort of way, Irene may have helped us in that effort. I doubt that they want to remodel the clinic at their ages.
If you reach that point. :P Seriously, I loved hiking and I do miss it. You should do it while you're able. Besides, having the experience with your buddies will provide a really nice memory.

the Eco-Boost 6 cyl twin turbo engine. Good or not good?
There's little benefit to it in the F150 except that it's the engine used to give the greatest towing capacity and is pushed as the towing engine.
In theory it's 1mpg better than the new 5.0 on both city and highway, but in practice it appears to be a wash.
Longevity is unknown, but it's undeniably a complex engine requiring complex management.

Bar codes will tell you nothing that looking at the product won't. It just identifies what the product is.
It won't tell you where that item was purchased.
It won't tell you who purchased it.
It won't tell you when it was purchased.
It won't tell you how much it was sold for.
All it will tell you is what it is.
