I've tried turning Java on and off. I've updated Flash Player for my IE 8 on XP pro SP3 machines. I didn't have any success with changing browser. I do have a feeling besides Edmunds having some trouble with servers there is something about Windows updates changing things in my browser.
I use my iPhone 90% of the time when posting on Edmunds. That means I am using Safari as my browser. But I am having the same problems as I have with Explorer on my Hewlett Packard with 12 gigs of RAM and an Intel I-7 processor. So it can't be the browsers. I have had problems on and off with Edmunds for years.
I don't know what other browsers are being used by members here, but it is my opinion it is a problem with the Edmunds server.
With respect to the Countryman, we told our salesperson we'd get back with her on Monday. They dropped the price $1,000 but it's still on the lot. We're betting that the lack of a hole in the roof and the Surf Blue interior trim will continue to keep potential buyers away. And if it does sell? We'll just keep looking...

Criticizing a Jeep for its inherent Jeep-ness is like blackballing a 911 because it has a cramped rear seat and limited luggage space
Perfectly stated! I had a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Limited and it drove like a car. Then they got too big so I got a 200 Jeep Cherokee....the smaller model that was about a 40 year old design. Magazines like CR gave it bad reviews because it was noisy, had a harsh ride, was an ancient design. Those things were just part of the charm. I loved that Jeep...those were the things that made it fun to drive and own.
Thanks roadburner, explorer, very old farmer, and anybody else I may have missed. I actually feel like my blood pressure is getting back to normal now.
I took the Veracruz in this morning to drop off the title to the old minivan and get it washed. Since the new car had 6,000 miles I asked them for a freebie oil change. They said they would do it, but I would have to bring it back tomorrow.
Don't know about waiting 1 -2 years about buying a car for me. My 99 Buick is looking mighty old sitting next to the new SUV. I take after my dad though when it comes to buying cars for myself. Buy a 5 or 6 year old car and drive it into the ground.
Asked the finance manager about Hyundais extended warranty. Said Hyundai has a warranty backed by Hyundai, but it is through a 3rd party provider. He really didn't seem interested in all in selling me one. Said the bumper to bumper warranty could be extended to 7 years/100miles for $1,500 or 10 years/100 k miles for $1,850. Sound reasonable?
LOL. I was looking at the suv this morning thinking I would need to give it a good waxing. Couldn't help but think of that ole rascal jmonroe and his world famous reputation on waxing cars.

Excellent! Congratulations on the nice ride and thanks for sharing the story, Jip. I hope both you and the wife enjoy many wonderful, safe years with it.
Said the bumper to bumper warranty could be extended to 7 years/100miles for $1,500 or 10 years/100 k miles for $1,850. Sound reasonable?
This is just my opinion, and I am not normally a person who would buy a warranty, but, in this case I think I would. One thing you may look into is this....with the Audi warranty you can buy it anytime while the car is still under the original warranty....you don't have to buy it in advance.
That's a good feature because I have a friend who paid $1800 for an extended warranty on a Ford Fusion, but he did so much driving that he was over the mileage before the warranty kicked in.
You tend to keep your cars for a long time and I think the chances are pretty good you will need some work done in the 10 years that will need that much work done in repairs. Transmissions, electricals, computers are very expensive to fix....so in my humble opinion I would do the 10 year warranty. If your wife gets tired of the Veracruze you might want to drive it.
Just, whatever you do, don't try to change the oil yourself.
jipster....like driver, I usually don't like extended warranties. Also, along with his thinking that you keep cars forever, it might not be a bad idea to get one. When my son had his Elantra, the first 5 years were fine (original warranty). But, those next 4 years were really expensive for him (and me). Not that any of the repairs were all that outrageous. But, they added up. The biggest (and most unexpected), we had to replace part of the front suspension. Granted, this was after 90K miles. Still, it wasn't covered by the standard power train warranty.
On the other hand, Hyundais have come a long way from where they were 10 years ago.
Jip, just say NO to extended warranties. Whatever happens won't be covered and you'll wish you had the money you wasted on the warranty because that money will (would have) cover(ed) the repairs.
Hey, we are waiting to see the cars she was interested in, to decide what to buy, so we can go do it.
I’ve said this before. Mrs. j doesn’t really know one car from another. As long as it isn’t coyote ugly and is reliable I get to make the pick. Ok, she wants input to the color too. When we were looking to replace her blown up XG350 she got wind of what AWD was so now that was on top of her list even though she will not drive in the snow. All she could remember was a few years ago when she came out of the mall there was about 3 inches of the white stuff and she damn near squeezed a flat spot in the steering wheel before she got home. So now that she knows what AWD is that took precedent over everything.
We started out looking at a ’12 La Crosse because it offered AWD and Buick had gotten some pretty good reliability write ups and good reviews in general plus I know she likes a soft ride. Of all things, she didn’t like the dash on the La Crosse and she also thought the car was too big but the dash was her real hang up. She saw the Regal and said that’s more like what she wanted but I said it’s not offered with AWD. Son #1 and I drove the Regal Turbo just for some data gathering and she liked the interior of the Regal but she was still hung up on the AWD.
Just last night, out of the blue, she asks if I like her new Subie because she knows that neither of our sons likes it. It’s just not a car that appeals to them. OK, I answered her question that it wouldn’t have been my first choice but she wanted AWD, it’s not a bad car and it has a better than average reliability rating. Now she says, “OH, I made you buy a car that you didn’t like, is that it”? Now I’m doing some side stepping and I said, “You didn’t force me into it. It’s a nice car but, me personally; I would have bought something else”. She then says, “I think I know now why you wanted the 6 cylinder. For the first time since I’ve had this car I had to push down on the gas pedal a little harder than I ever had to before because of some traffic and that car is faster than my old car”. Gee, I bet she took it to 3500 RPM and got it over 45 MPH. :surprise:
BTW, you guys owe me a big thanks for this past mild winter with no snow. I did that by putting an AWD machine in my garage that I’ll have to wait for next winter to see if AWD is what it’s cracked up to be. Son #1 is disappointed too with last winter.

I don't remember you ever mentioning this. I'm curious, what exactly was the hang up with the dash? Was is the way it wrapped around the outside? I know that is a knee buster for some.
My Fiance hits her knee getting out sometimes because she sits with the seat so far forward. I have it almost all the way back so I'm fine.
I've had mine 9 months now and am very happy. It's been problem free, except I believe the windshield is delaminating. I don't think I'm going to get it fixed unless it gets worse.

There's something that Edmunds servers are doing that doesn't agree with IE.
Especially obnoxious is when it tosses its cookies. It keeps losing the login information for the automatic login WHEN the servers are having these slowness problems.
I wonder if the problem is hangups on loading some of the advertisements from the AdFarm servers that try to match up advertisements with recent activity records for the user logged in?
I mostly use Chrome, as I find IE to be clunky in general. Takes forever to load pages, compared to Firefox & Chrome.
One tip I got from Karen - make sure your browser is set to allow 3rd party cookies. That seems to help with login issues, though the general slowness won't go away.

I thought I did mention it but that’s not important. I did not have a problem with the way the dash curves around where it meets the door but even though she put the seat in her driving position, which is pretty far forward, she didn’t seem to have a problem either. I think that is something that you have to get used to. After a few knee whacking’s I think that would do it. She just didn’t like the styling of the dash. The styling didn’t bother me but it did her and since this was going to be her car the La Crosse was off the list. In fact, when we had our discussion last night about her Subie, she brought up the dash thing again. Like I said before she doesn’t know one car from another and she couldn’t even remember the name of the car with the “ugly dash”.

What is a “delaminating windshield”? If it isn’t right it should be covered by the warranty.

Thanks for the explanation. Its a unique design, that is for sure.
As for the windshield, I took these pictures of it, so I would know if it was starting to get worse. Two other members on the Buick forum I frequent had theirs replaced already.
After a few knee whacking’s I think that would do it. She just didn’t like the styling of the dash.
My wife and I both sat in a LaCrosse and separately we wacked our knees getting out, I was on the drivers side and she was in the passenger side. It was funny in a way, we didn't know whether to tell the other one we were that klutzy, but we hobbled around for a few minutes after our experience.
Most women are shorter than us guys, so they have a different perspective of the instrument panel and the view from the drivers seat. My wife was pleasantly surprised at how high up you can make the seat go in the Audi, much better than in the 335. That was the first thing she loved about the car. Also, Buick is really trying for a modern fancy swoopy look inside. That appeals to many people, especially I think they are trying to attract younger people. But, some people like a more traditional look. Not saying one is better than the other, just different tastes. I know my wife and I like a low dash and hood so you have maximum visibility. My guess is that would be important to your wife too.
I wondered that too........What is a “delaminating windshield”?
I take after my dad though when it comes to buying cars for myself. Buy a 5 or 6 year old car and drive it into the ground.

In my not so humble opinion, the only way an extended warranty is worth the price is if you stick to your old habits and keep the car for many years. If you’re concerned with the cost just use the ‘driver method’ of only pennies a day or a bottle of wine a week or a case of beer every month or .
Lately, maybe because I have been on this forum too long I change cars more often. I used to be like you but now I don’t have kids to be concerned with. If I don’t spend it on me, that just leaves more for Mrs. j to spend and I can’t let that happen, right? We now seem to be in a race to see who gets anything that might be left over at the end of the month. So far, I’m holding my own and still no dining room for her.

Odd about the window. But delaminating makes sense, since a windshield is now a sandwich of layers pressed together, and that is what you call it when they peel!
as to the dash, everyone pretty much has a hot button (I call it the litmus test). For me, it is if the seat cushion is too short for thigh support, or if you can't tilt the front edge of the seat up enough (I hate to tip forward).
My wife, her's is the seatbelt on the neck test. She has a problem with some cars where the belt cuts across her chest/shoulder/neck at the wrong place/angle, and cuts into her neck. Drives her nuts. And that is the primary thing she checks now when we sit in a car (even before the test drive).
and I have learned, if that isn't comfortable, take the car off the list. She really liked the Volvo XC-60 we drove (I did too), but was soon as she said the belt was hitting her wrong, bam, it was off the list!
As for the windshield, I took these pictures of it, so I would know if it was starting to get worse. Two other members on the Buick forum I frequent had theirs replaced already.
If I were you I’d do like the other Buick owners did. I wouldn’t wait until it leaked.
I know a guy that waited too long with a small windshield crack at the bottom on an out of warranty Chevy Lumina and it got worse, leaked, and ruined his anti thief/body module under the dash. He said that is not a cheap thing to buy and before he bought a new one he had to go through a PITA procedure a few times to get the module reset so that he could start the car. He said something like, turning the key on, waiting so many seconds, turning the key off, turning it back to the on position, that kind of stuff. The insurance deductible for the windshield was cheaper but you shouldn’t have to do that since what you have seems to be a defect that will be covered under warranty.

I never wanted to go that old, but had pretty good luck with getting ~3 YO ones, then keeping for 3 years and evaluating. To me, that seemed to keep him in the "new" car domain, not the "old" car one where you started getting into problems and hassles.
now, my next car (for the wife) will be new, because she just wants nothing to do with used for her. And we do plan to keep for a long time.
for me, at year end, it will have to be something older but should also be a toy/spare that will not get many miles. So that could end up being 10 YO even.
I would have it replaced ASAP too if it was mine, since it will be under warranty.
Interesting thing about NJ though, glass is not covered by your insurance. You get a crack, you pay to replace. Though the last time i did it (on my Accord), an OEM quality replacement was only about $300 installed in my driveway. So not a huge deal.
Lately, maybe because I have been on this forum too long I change cars more often.
We met some friends yesterday and he got a new Mercedes a few months ago. He's a doctor, and he gets a new car every 4 years. He gets a a $96k model, his trade in has about 70K miles on it, and he pays $36K. He likes doing this because his cars are always under warranty, and are always reliable.
Using the "Driver Method" of calculating cost it costs him $9000 a year to drive a nice new Mercedes every 4 years. Most cars cost at least $5000 a year to run, so for a few $1000 more he has a nice new car. Now of course, he needs to have something behind him to get into that first $90K+ vehicle.
and you STILL haven't done the new dining room yet
He is good, isn't he?
Stick, J, Driver thanks for the advice. I will probably mention the windshield on my next service to see what they say. I would be willing to bet they replace it no questions asked. I just really didn't want that trouble (and afraid of a bad re-install), but the dealer I go to is pretty good.
Gone for a year and you STILL haven't done the new dining room yet?

But a reminder on Hyundai's warranty, it's 5 years 60,000 miles plus 10 years 100,000 miles on powertrain. So powertrain is already covered without the extended warranty. The extended warranty would be bumper to bumper for 10years/100,000 miles.
I just really didn't want that trouble (and afraid of a bad re-install), but the dealer I go to is pretty good.
More than likely the dealer will farm this out to an auto glass installer. But the dealer will warrant the work. I’ve heard of this being done several times. In fact, one time when I picked my car up from the dealer the service writer was telling a customer that their car was “on its way from the glass installer and your car should be here in a couple of minutes”. The customer seemed very surprised by this so the service writer explained to him what was going on.

My thoughts exactly. With daughter getting ready to go away to college next year, and son right behind when she's getting out, really would enjoy the peace of mind a warranty offers.
We put 112k miles on the Mazda in 8 years. So really a 8 year/100k mile bumper to bumper warranty would be better. Don't know if they are offered in packages like that, but I'll check.

As for the windshield, I took these pictures of it, so I would know if it was starting to get worse. Two other members on the Buick forum I frequent had theirs replaced already.

That is weird. Are you going to try to have it replaced? Could it keep getting worse?

Asked the finance manager about Hyundais extended warranty. Said Hyundai has a warranty backed by Hyundai, but it is through a 3rd party provider. He really didn't seem interested in all in selling me one. Said the bumper to bumper warranty could be extended to 7 years/100miles for $1,500 or 10 years/100 k miles for $1,850. Sound reasonable?
So far, I’m holding my own and still no dining room for her.

as to the dash, everyone pretty much has a hot button (I call it the litmus test).

The insurance deductible for the windshield was cheaper but you shouldn’t have to do that since what you have seems to be a defect that will be covered under warranty.

now, my next car (for the wife) will be new, because she just wants nothing to do with used for her. And we do plan to keep for a long time.
for me, at year end, it will have to be something older but should also be a toy/spare that will not get many miles. So that could end up being 10 YO even.

Interesting thing about NJ though, glass is not covered by your insurance. You get a crack, you pay to replace. Though the last time i did it (on my Accord), an OEM quality replacement was only about $300 installed in my driveway. So not a huge deal.

Gone for a year and you STILL haven't done the new dining room yet?

No, but rest assured that the grumbling about it has remained steady during that time.

Never been much on extended warranties myself. Recent purchase of refrig and oven the exception.

But a reminder on Hyundai's warranty, it's 5 years 60,000 miles plus 10 years 100,000 miles on powertrain. So powertrain is already covered without the extended warranty. The extended warranty would be bumper to bumper for 10years/100,000 miles.

Thanks. Being that I don't buy cars that often, nice to be able to post a story here with a little meat to it.
One little known Hyundai warranty fact:
Some electronic systems are only covered 3/36. I don't know the specifics but know the Radio/Nav/Bluetooth system are part of that.
