If anybody has seen the Free Credit Report.Com commercial, the actor drives off the lot in a blue Metro. Heck, he's actually more cool and trendy than the girls in the convertible laughing at him and his pals.
My girlfriend's first new car was a 1986 Chevrolet Sprint with the neck-snapping 1.0 liter 3-cylinder engine.
What I got out of the story was that it was the mother doing the selling. Even bringing the kid out when she was sick. They didn't phrase it that way only quoting the kid as liking cookies.
I see this happening all the time. We aren't to where we are sending high school freshmen to Europe on cookie money but that's probably only a product of what neighborhood we're in.
I think the cookie biz has gotten out of hand but will sometimes buy anyway simply for the reason that I like cookies and the Girl Scouts have the corner on Thin Mints.

"buy a Civic for MSRP+ said he got a survey in the mail. Asks how he should fill it out. I told him to be honest, don't hold any grudges and give the salesman all zeros. "
Why should the salesman get all zeros? Nobody twisted their arm or put a gun to their head to buy the car. Some people just can't take responsibility for their actions.
To me it shows the kids that if they work hard they are rewarded for there efforts.
You’re right but not by standing on the street corner, outside grocery stores, or going door to door selling cookies and their other wares. I’m all for letting kid’s earn money by cutting grass, shoveling snow, raking leaves, washing cars, etc. That will show them what they can do purely on their own without outside help.
It is a pretty sad day when the world starts bad mouthing Scouting
I wasn’t “bad mouthing” Scouting as much as I was what they do to raise money and most importantly what the money is for. To me, trips to Europe are waaaay over the top. I know plenty of people who really liked Scouting. Just because I didn’t and my kids heard me say so, I wasn’t going to deny them the opportunity of trying it for themselves. To be honest, I’m now glad they didn’t listen to me and tried it so they would know first hand whether or not they liked it.

He should get less than zeros, he means  :P
anyways. So why should the salesman get all 10's if he sold it at 1000 below invoice? Nobody held a gun to his head either.
Part of that "nonsense" is what keeps customers coming back! They sure seem to like playing the game.
Nah!! They want the product. Buying a new car/vehicle is actually more of a hassle and aggravation then going to the dentist - the "only" exception to that being root canal work.
Speaking of root canal. It ain't all that bad. Had two done in 25 minutes for a total of $2500 not including tax. How's that for an hourly rate? Guy is supposed to be the best in town and one thing for sure he ain't the cheapest.
Friend who paid MSRP+ for the Civic didn't agree with me on all zeros. Evidently he felt for the salesperson and gave them all 2s. Who said life ain't fair.

If it was a good deal, you were treated politely, and you have no complaints why bust the guys balls. Give him a good score and move on. In the big picture the only person it effects is him and the only people who care out side of the dealership are people on this web site and ones like it. Sometimes you can't. I wanted to give my sales person a good CSI because he didn't screw with me too much. Never got a survey.
On the other hand I got a call from Mitsu about an oil change I had at the dealer. I gave all glowing comments in case the service tech would get some bonus money out of it. Didn't you know that people who return to the dealership for service actually pay more for that service because of factory trained techs? or they get free lubes as part of the sales deal? No other reason to return to the dealer for oil changes.
Then again some do miss the interaction with the salesfolk when you walk the lot checking out cars while your's being serviced. One of the many benefits of servicing at your local Mitsu dealership.
I never said anything about giving him all 10's if that's a rating method Honda uses. If the customers felt they got ripped than take it out on the sales manager and the dealership practices and contact Honda USA, :shades: not on the salesman. He's only following the dealership guidelines. Mack
I'd rather have my car serviced by a factory trained tech and franchised dealer than the local Import Auto Masters. I had an experience once with Mack Jr's S-ER. Took it in for some service and they dropped it off the lift or something as there was extensive damage to the front bumper. Then they pretended it never happened and asked me if the damage was there before :confuse:
and not once did I receive a factory survey. Sure I've got a couple of surveys from the dealership but not one from a manufacturer.
It's against the rules but your survey probably got burned. Unless you registered it under a business name. Nissan doesn't send them out to Businesses becuase anyone can get them. If that wasn't the case...
When I have seen a survey get burned at my past dealerships. It is ussualy cause of a feeling about the customer where they seem like a unhappy person. Or they are unhappy with the transaction or just car dealers themselves. Now I am not trying to say anything about you Obyone because I really don't know you. I have to admit it is amusing you haven't seen one survey out of all those vehicles.
Some surveys do get lost in the mail... who knows...
What used to happen is if someone was a "troubled customer" they would send it to a persons house with the wrong address to get lost...
Better no survey than a bad one.
Where I work now though it is what it is. Sometimes I wish they would burn a survey... but they wouldn't dare do it.
No other reason to return to the dealer for oil changes.
Well for one when you come to the dealer you will get factory filters compared to aftermarket ones. Also our dealer only charges $24.99 per oil change. That is cheaper than jiffy lube :shades:
So you're saying that the survey goes through the dealership? I thought it was direct to the customer and back to the manufacturer once completed. Only then would the dealership find out about the survey.
Course the surveys that I received from the dealership went straight into the rubbish can as I figured they didn't really care what the salesperson did or didn't do right as most of the directives come directly from the top.
But the people who are willing to pay a fair deal and bt fair deal I mean give a discount of MSRP of $500 or so. always give a all exellents
I couldn't agree more. I run a high end store and don't even put a sale sign on any products. I just reasonably price them. The intelligent patron knows the value he is getting (compared to the market) and just laps up the items.
I have been reading this board religiously for years and I don't think we ever saw the end of the "....to be continued" where the guy (Frank?) finally showed up for his test drive with liquor on his breath ("and trouble on his mind," to quote Hal Ketchum). When that one's completed, the others can move up. :P
If my memory's mistaken and that story actually was completed, then I apologize.
Because they knew what you would do to their dealers.
About those root canals you got; Mrs jmonroe is a front office manager 2 days a week for two guys in our Burb that are known to be not only the best in our Burb but for miles around. They even get the local pro athletes when the team dentist is at a conference, on vacation and stuff like that. She tells me they are not participants in any of the insurance plans and it hasn’t hurt their business at all. They charge around $850 for a multi-root molar and they give a 10% discount if paid in thirty days and she says a lot of their patients do that. That's better than the $2500, for two, 'paradise' rate you got hit for.
Since I know someone in that biz, they take whatever my insurance pays (Which is about half. I’ve had this done twice at different times) and I’m on my way. I can only speak for one of these guys since I haven’t been seen by the other and he is GOOD. I’ve had more pain with a routine filling than with either of my root canals.
The next time you pop off to Mrs. oby let me know if you want to save a buck. They don’t pass out surveys but you do get a call the next day and a week later to see how you’re doing.
Now to stay on topic. I’ll even pick you up at the airport and give you a ride in one of the throw-aways. That’s the least I can do for a poster pal that doesn’t know when to keep his mouth closed.

Ouch! I believe that I started the Pinewood Derby thread months ago with a lovely story of father/son bonding, friendly competition and ultimate victory (well, 8th place...). All forgotten by the son a few days later...
Maybe it's my town/people/scouts. But as a resident of my original hometown has been known to say, "It's a good thing."
Got a letter today from Herb Chambers. Call the new GM at Lexus dealer, make your best deal and Herb will throw in another $500. And he can afford it! Not sure I can... Waiting for IS hardtop convert. And/or Infiniti G37 HTC. Or a fire sale on XKs... Yeah, I'm all talk...

I remember that one! It is one of the unfinished stories by the great Mackabee. Frank was actually the father, his son Joey was the one that was drunk. Frank was not with the family that day. I don't like Frank anymore. He's what we call in the biz a "squirrel".
He bought a car from another salesperson at the store and when I asked him why he said "A guy I work with told me to see Roger. Said he would get me a good deal." So I said to him "Really? Ok, when you have a question about your new car or you need something go see Roger. I'm sure he'll be able to answer any questions you have. Might not be the right answers but that's what you get from a non-certified used car salesman. Thank your buddy for that."
I've seen Frank around a few times. Matter of fact he was at the store a month ago with the Mrs. looking at a new Sequoia (with a different salesperson this time. I guess Roger couldn't get him a better deal! Oh well, I hope he enjoys his vehicles no matter who he buys them from. Mack :shades:
It goes straight to the customer. The customer fills it in and returns it or fills it online. The dealership gets a hard copy. There are "problem" customers that in some cases their RDR or retail delivery report is inputted in a greenpea's name as the selling person so it won't affect the person that actually sold the car. Not all customers get surveyed. Time for a story: The real estate agent
I got burned really bad by a "customer". She's a real estate agent and should have known better. I took over for a buddy of mine since he didn't want to deal with her any longer. He was the fourth salesperson to "assist" her. Real PITA woman. I bent over backwards to make a deal and make her happy. But it didn't work
She began by putting words in my mouth and then accusing me of a bait and switch. The car she was interested in had been sold and I told her we were getting another one just like it with the exception of the satellite radio kit which we would install at the dealership. Somehow she felt wronged and I just came out and told her:
"Look, we are clashing right here. Let me get you another salesperson." I told her. Her husband (who was holding their little dog) said to me. "Do you want to fight or do you want to sell a car?" so I responded: "Your wife is the one being combative. Maybe she should be the one on a leash." I shot back as I stood up and went to get my General Sales Manager.
I filled him in on the status of the deal. Told him she had worked four other sales guys and not one of them wanted to work with her anymore. He comes over and she starts blowing his hair back and demands that we give her the satellite radio kit for free. This is a $499.00 option if installed at the port and costs more at the dealership. The manager smiles and agrees to it and we tell her we will call her when the car comes in.
When the car comes in I call her and set up a delivery time. They go into finance as she knew the "delivery coordinator" Suzy so she skipped that step. When they came out of finance I took them to where her car was and was going to show her to program her nav system and she was very curt. "No, I'll figure it out myself." She closed the door and drove off.
I mentioned it to the GSM and he told me he would RDR the car in someone else's name. Well, guess what! He didn't! The survey came in and she roasted me over the coals! She wrote on there that I was the "worst salesperson" she'd ever dealt with, that we tried to pull a "bait and switch" etc.etc.
epilogue: A few months later her name comes up on my database for a follow-up call. I'm still steaming from the bad survey but I remain calm and professional and pick up the phone. "This is Gertrude" she answers the phone.
"Hi Mrs. Brumbley, it's Mack at XYZ Toyota. Did I catch you at a bad time?" I ask her. "No, I'm just relaxing having a drink by the pool." she replies. "I'm just calling to see how you're enjoying your new Avalon." I tell her. "Oh, I hate it, the darn navigation does not work as advertised." she tells me. "What is it not doing that you want it to do?" I ask her. "It's just not working the way it's supposed to." she replies "Have you taken it to service to have it checked out?" I ask. "Yes, they say it's ok but I don't believe them." she responds. "Well sorry to hear that (NOT)! I hope everything else is alright. Buh Bye."
As a former cub scout and boy scout, I feel as you do---but for a different reason. When I was a cub scout, they wouldn't allow a friend of mine to join because he was a Jew. I found that out when I bought in 05’ and 06’.
In 05’ since I got the car I wanted at the price I wanted to pay, why wouldn’t I have given the sales guy and dealership a perfect score of 10 ? I should note that this was a few months before I was a member here at Edmunds and I didn’t know how important these surveys were. I do remember the salesman telling me about a survey that I would receive in the mail and he’d really appreciate it if I took the time to fill it out and mail it in and he was hoping I’d give them all 10’s. I said I’d fill it out and I’d be honest about how I did it. He thanked me and said again, “these things are very important to us”. At the time I thought this was just salesman speak. Now I know its importance. When I filled it out I even wrote in some comments where I felt I could provide some clarification.
About a month later this guy calls to thank me for the glowing survey and tells me if I ever needed anything to come and see him and he’d take care of it for me. Fortunately, I never needed his help. So, in 06’ when I’m ready to buy a new one for ‘you know who’, I go in to see him. I go on a day that he’s off and I knew from here at Edmunds that if I worked with another salesman to get even the slightest bit of information he’d lose some of his commission so I tell his fellow salesman to let him know I came in and I’d be back the next day. I go in and he tells me how much he appreciated me waiting to see him and then proceeds to become a total jerk. He was only interested in making a quick sale from his inventory and wouldn’t go find me what I wanted and he knew where it was.
Therefore in 06’, I bought from a dealer across town who met my price and I was given the same “importance” thing by that salesman but by now I knew all about this stuff. I filled out the survey the same way and again I got a call thanking me. When I buy again some day, I’ll look this guy up and hope he didn’t become a jerk too.

Twist on the cookie trip, etc. Found out my Jewish niece has qualified for a free trip to Israel. Researched and there is an organization Talgit-Birthright Israel that promotes educational trip to Israel for 18-27 age range young folks. This is to help keep ties to the Jewish community outside of Israel. I can't remember if she has been to Europe, but she did have exchange semesters in Japan and Australia while an undergrad at Vasser. I don't think she was in Girl Scouts, but her mother was back in the 60's, Presbyterian at that time before converting to Jewish in the '70s.
I remember being told way back then that around WWI being an Eagle scout was just about equivalent to Lieutenant in the military.

I feel that you CAN'T be honest when filling out these surveys..... About a year ago, we bought a new car. I did all the research beforehand, knew what I wanted to pay, blah, blah. The deal went smoothly, no grinding, no hassles. We didn't deal with finance guys or paint-sealant guys, none of that. Got the deal we wanted, seemed fair for both sides. The salesman found us a vehicle that had the options we wanted and didn't try to jam us with stuff we didn't want. We didn't spend all day grinding the guy, either, we we good customers. Salesman tells me to expect a survey in the mail, and to fill it out "honestly" because part of his commission comes from this survey. He didn't emphasize it's importance, just kind of mentioned it. OK, sure. I get the survey in the mail, and I fill it out all 10's except for a couple of questions I gave 9's. These questions had nothing to do with the saleperson himself, so I thought I would be honest. In the comments section, I wrote a glowing review of the salesman, about how great he was, how I would easily recommend him and the dealership, etc. I mail it back. Couple weeks later, I get a call AT HOME from the salesman. I figure he's calling to follow-up on the sale, cool. Nope. He proceeds to rip into me big-time. How dare I "dog" him on the survey!. This will cost me xxxxxdollars! I didn't get all 10's! A 9 is as good as a zero! They don't even read the written comments! After all I did for you! Do not come back to this dealership! On and on for 20 minutes... I mean the guy was pissed....Well, so was I. WTF? I didn't intentionally rank on the dude. I had no idea they put so much weight on these surveys. I mean, cmon, to dock the guy his pay because of not all perfecxt 10's... The whole system is a farce. I just don't feel like I should have to lie so that a manager won't get upset.
I should have known it only the paid up members got the Edmunds notice in their last statement to, “ not bash the cars of fellow members”.

Time for a story:
The real estate agent
She wrote on there that I was the "worst salesperson" she'd ever dealt with, that we tried to pull a "bait and switch" etc.etc.
epilogue:
A few months later her name comes up on my database for a follow-up call.
Buh Bye."
To stay on topic: When I was in the Boy Scouts, it would have been good to have had a merit badge in auto mechanics. Maybe I would be saving some money now.

Well... he did sell you a "Hyundai". That should have lowered his credibility score right there. :P
Agreed, I did not pay any attention to the banter going back and forth earlier
"...and Infiniti and Lexus have already settled on retractable hardtops for the G37 and IS as well."

I should have known it only the paid up members got the Edmunds notice in their last statement to, “ not bash the cars of fellow members”.

I remember being told way back then that around WWI being an Eagle scout was just about equivalent to Lieutenant in the military.
Bill
"As a former cub scout and boy scout, I feel as you do---but for a different reason. When I was a cub scout, they wouldn't allow a friend of mine to join because he was a Jew. I actually didn't know why until I was older. When I was a boy scout, they made fun of another friend of mine because he was Catholic---as if most of them even knew what a Catholic believed or didn't believe. I didn't say anything. I wish that I had. I just kept earning those stupid merit badges and moving up the ranks. Finally, our troop leader retired. Since I was in high school at the time, I retired myself from scouts. Then a few years ago, the Gay Ban came up in the Boy Scouts. That is when I stopped claiming that I had been a Boy Scout. What hypocrites! They teach all of the noble qualities of life---except the tragic pain of discrimination. "
so who joins the cub scouts? pagans?
You need to explain in detail Richard why the cub scouts would not have a Jew or almost not have a catholic in their group.
The was before the era of the PC so the nerds needed something to do.
Just my .02
Just joshing with you jmonroe. Hyundai is o.k in my book. Heck, in 5-10 years, I bet isellhondas changes his handle to isellhyundais. Everybody will want a piece of the action. You and snakie are trendsetters don't ya know.
