Our store is taking a page right out of Chrysler's playbook but seems Mr. Press got it wrong so we are making it better.
As most of you know Chrysler is offering a gas card in lieu of rebates or special financing. The smart consumer will probably won't fall for it. I'm amazed the former CEO of Toyota Motor Sales USA came up with this bonehead idea.
Our take on it is this: On all Limited Sequoias $5000.00 off MSRP plus a $4000.00 dollar gas card. On Tundra Limited CrewMax $4000.00 off MSRP and a $3000.00 gas card.
NO CATCH NO GAMES
Basically it breaks down like this: Sequoia $600.00 discount $400.00 college or military rebate $2000.00 rebate from Toyota $2000.00 owner loyalty rebate Total $5000.00
On the Tundra (Joel's favorite 1/2 ton truck!) it's the same but the amounts are different: $600.00 discount $400.00 college or military rebate $3000.00 rebate Total $4000.00
Since our objective for this month is 300 new cars we are pulling all the stops. I hope it drives traffic to the store. We have so many cars and trucks on the lot that it's becoming almost impossible to find a parking space for the employees. !
Basically it breaks down like this: Sequoia $600.00 discount $400.00 college or military rebate $2000.00 rebate from Toyota $2000.00 owner loyalty rebate Total $5000.00
So how do you call that? I understand there are some recent graduates driving a beat down Corolla coveting new Sequoia, but the rest of us would get just about half of your NO GAMES rebate. I thought you were better than that, Mack
Hey, I didn't come up with the idea. We have a high military concentration in the area and also some college grads that have started or will start working and make good money. So the rest of you don't qualify for the college grad, military, or loyalty refund, you still get the factory rebate, discount, AND the gas card. Either way the customer wins! Mack
Just to point out...it was a GS450H, not an LX450H...may make a bit of difference going from a car to a brick...80 cents a mile though :surprise: I'd be in the poor house before your can say hybrid.
Yeah last I heard Tundras and Sequoias were going for invoice less rebates. You could also buy a beater Corolla for $50 and trade it under the loyalty program.
Or if you really want to be cheep I can sell you a 1991 Dodge Colt (made by Mitsubishi) 3 door hatch, 5 spd, a/c, am/fm radio (no cassette player. Who listens to cassettes anyway!) Only 117k miles on the clock, original carpet and headliner, great on gas! 35mpg on the highway. Need a tune-up. Took it in on trade for a Prius smart key.! Light blue, with Michelin tires. Only $$599.00 plus tax, title, and registration, $399.00 processing fee included in the sale price! Hurry before we take it to the auction or the junk yard!
* (disclaimer) Gas card not included. Rebates and incentives to dealer. Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers. See dealer for details.
bought a 2006 dodge magnum last year for $27,500 paid the loan down to$22,500 my car is now worth a little more than a HUGO!!!! I lost $16,000 in one year IM PISSED!!! by the way Im a employee with 27+ years. car is only worth $11,000 today.
It's catching on all over. I just got a mailer from a local Ford dealership. They are offering a "voucher" for 10,000 miles of gasoline. Good on used vehicles only. Fine print says "subject to full negotiations." Not exactly sure what that means.
Fine print says "subject to full negotiations." Not exactly sure what that means.
Means you get it when you pay full pop for the car (aka asking price). Once you get the price down, you more likely kiss the voucher good buy. Same old, same old...
Most loyalty programs I've seen only require that you own one. Never seen an age or mileage limit on any program. Course I've never owned a vehicle over ten years old or 100K miles.
I think the Evil Wife's '02 RX300 will be the first 10yr/100,000 miler I've ever owned. She loves it, wants to keep it for a while. Good for us, it's paid for. She doesn't get the new car itch after only 6 months of owning a new car like I do!
Prior record was the EW's '95 Saab, kept for 6.5 years and 84,000 miles. My TL is approaching 3.5 years and is at 42k+ miles... I've been really itching for a new car for the past year or so... But, NOBODY WANTS TO SELL ME A CAR TODAY!*
*Disclaimer: Sale must result in a large net loss for the dealer. My trade-in allowance must be a minimum of 150% of KBB retail value, excellent condition. Doc fees not allowed. If financing is offered, APR must not exceed 0%. All rebates and incentives assigned to me. And I want a hat and shirt! :shades:

The only cars I ever owned for less than ten years were already ten years old when I got them. Well, maybe seven years, but not new and these were pre 1975 purchases.
In May of 1975 I purchased my first new automobile, a 1975 Chevy pick-up and kept it for 25 years.
We have had several new cars and kept all of them for 12+ years. Our Explorer holds the record (not counting the pick-up) at 15 years.
This year we get a new car, so says the wife. A 2008 Taurus. I think I have convinced her that waiting for a 2009 is not the best idea.
They just recalled 650k F=150's due to a fault in the braking system. This is a good thing. Bad thing is they will notify owners next month. :confuse: Hope nobody gets hurt. Mack

Michigan Girl Scout sells 17,328 boxes of cookies By MARGARET HARDING, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 51 minutes ago
A Girl Scout sold 17,328 boxes of the group's signature cookies this year by setting up shop on a street corner, shattering her troop's old mark and probably setting a national record.
Jennifer Sharpe, a 15-year-old from Dearborn, plans to travel to Europe with her troop with the proceeds from her feat.
"It's always been one of those goals I wanted to accomplish," Sharpe said Wednesday.
The two bakeries that make the cookies said Sharpe sold more than anyone this year, according to Dianne Thomas, spokeswoman for the Girl Scouts of Metro Detroit.
Michelle Tompkins, spokeswoman for the New York-based national organization, called the figure "amazing" but said there's no national record on the books.
"We're thrilled for the girls who take it to such a great level, but so far, we don't track it at the national level," she said.
Sharpe sold cookies every day on a street corner with help from her mother and troop leader, Pam Sharpe.
"We were always there; we never closed," Pam Sharpe said. "At one point, Jenny got really sick and we did shut down early, and we heard about it the next day."
Jennifer Sharpe's Troop 813 raised about $21,000 in cookie sales, paying for its 10-day trip to Europe this winter. Troops get only part of the proceeds from their members' sales.
The cookie program has helped push Jennifer out of her shell, Pam Sharpe said.
"It's made her really confident," she said. "I remember when she first started selling, she was very shy and quiet and you had to push her out to talk to customers, but now she's right out there, first to the door."
One thing that hasn't changed, despite selling thousands of boxes for the past few years, is Jennifer Sharpe's feelings about the cookies.
In May of 1975 I purchased my first new automobile, a 1975 Chevy pick-up and kept it for 25 years.
We have had several new cars and kept all of them for 12+ years. Our Explorer holds the record (not counting the pick-up) at 15 years.
Had one Honda for 247K miles and 14 years, another Honda for 195K miles and 14 years and a Nissan for 191K miles and 11 years. If a vehicle is fairly reliable, over miles and time, then huge savings in dollars vs more frequent trade-ins and updates. Another postive about keeping vehicles a long time is that you cut down on amount of times in your life being subjected to the nonsense of some salespeople at some dealers.

You started this. While it’s off-topic, it’s on-subject.
When did it start that the community owes it to the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, majorettes/cheer leaders etc. a trip to anywhere or any ‘thing’ for that matter? If you’re the parent of a child that belongs to one of these groups and you want your child to go to Europe or to the movies, cough up and they’ll go. Does any kid in middle/high school need a trip to Europe to round out their cultural lives? Wouldn’t they enjoy/understand/appreciate it more when they are older?
What kind of a lesson are we teaching our kids when we, in effect, say that all they have to do is sell something that’s being endorsed by some organization/cause and you get whatever you want on someone else’s dime?
I was in the Cub Scouts and didn’t like it, was even in the Boy Scouts and didn’t like that either but my parents thought it was good “exposure” for a kid other than sports (which I really liked) so I did it. After a year in Boy Scouts I was allowed to get out. Yes, for me it seemed like a prison term.
I “exposed” my kids to Cub Scouts and I’ve already ranted about the “Pinewood Derby” event that turned my kids and their mother off of that organization. They learned something I already knew but sometimes talk won’t do it so you have to learn for yourself. It’s just a part of life’s learning process.
Call me a meany and I know there is going to be a baby or two that’s thrown out with the bath water but that’s also life and that’s the way I feel about this subject.
To stay on topic; maybe the community should buy our kids a car; it’s really not safe to walk home at night after visiting friends. Who knows, if we lose a kid to street violence that could have been the kid that would have found a cure to a deadly disease had he/she lived to adulthood.
Give me a break.

Wow!! Does Edmunds have an award for over reaction of the month Its pretty cut and dry. Don't buy the cookies if you don't want to. Nobody is forcing your wallet open or holding a gun to your head.
To me it shows the kids that if they work hard they are rewarded for there efforts.
It is a pretty sad day when the world starts bad mouthing Scouting
Was watching a show and was impressed with the dialogue.
A grandmother showing some pictures to her son, daughter in law, and granddaughter commented that those articles came from the war of Northern aggression. The granddaughter replied don't you mean the Civil War? Grandmother says, I mean what I said.
Next scene the southernly grandmother tells her daughter in law. A wife should be a chef in the kitchen, a maid in the living room, and a whore in the bedroom. My son tells me that you need help on two of the three. A concerned daughter in law asks her husband...not the whore part right? Son tells her not to worry about the whore part.....
Back to topic. Friend who helped his son buy a Civic for MSRP+ said he got a survey in the mail. Asks how he should fill it out. I told him to be honest, don't hold any grudges and give the salesman all zeros. :P
The current car(s) to have are the early 90s nerdy, fuel-stingy cars--at least according to an article in USA Today. Despite woeful crash protection folks are gobbling up the Festivas and Metros. One recent Metro convertible sold on eBay for $3K and it had rust holes and 175K on the clock. Despite pitiful reliability there is even interest in the pre-2000 Hyundai Excel so take heart snakeweasel! The folks at KBB say that prices have actually risen 30% for low-end 15 year old gas misers. What must a 93 Metro convertible have cost new? $7K? If so it has held roughly half its value over 15 years.
I believe that I read that Ford is bring back the Festiva, can the Escort be far behind? I'm awaiting the return of the Pinto since that was the epitome of 70s fuel efficiency and safety.
So is anyone out looking for mid-90s nostalgia plus fuel efficiency? Mack--anybody cross-shopping the Prius against the 46mpg, 93 Geo Metro XFI? :confuse:
