Yes, a 2-3 MPG difference. And that's reality!

Well laurasdad that extra 2-3 MPG would add up to a savings of less than a gallon of gas per week for most drivers. That would hardly show up on most peoples radars.
Certainly not enough of a savings to go through the trouble and expense of swapping out cars.

The protection package was put on the vehicle as soon as they agreed to buy it. When they went into the business office is when the deal almost unraveled. They didn't pay for the pro-pack but it was put on the vehicle. When they came out of the business office I was told they didn't want it and didn't pay for it. So they got it for free. Mack
I happen to know those things get 28 hwy and 24 when you drive hard. Perhaps a few less when you try to get it airborne.
Makes no sense to me. I have a Toyota V6 getting 30.8 AVG MPG for the last 3 years and would trade for a 01 Vette all day long.
I don't believe in 24 mpg on a hard-driven Corvette for a second. Would not be surprised if it was more like 18 mpg. Big V8s have this thing, you know, called displacement. If you rev the car up to 5-6 thousand rpms, something has to fill it's combustion chambers to get that torque working and those wheels spinning - it's called gas (air, too of course, but gas is needed in large quantities to move those large pistons in large cylinders). Now, when you idle it on highway at 60 mph on the right lane then yes, you may get 28 mpg. Of course I don't believe in 30 mpg on V6 Camry driven hard, either, but I bet the differential is slightly less than the Vette's.
However, with car like Corvette the gas mileage is really beside the point. If can't pay $2000 or even $3000 year for gas, you have no business in buying a $50-100K car, period. Even if it's used and I got a good deal, whatever that might mean. So a guy trading Vette for econocar because of gas mileage has much deeper issues with his finances than he wants to admit. Probably should have not gat that car at the first place.
BTW, at 25 mpg, 5 mpg more translates to $300/year at 15K miles and $3.5/gal. However, same 5 mpg bump at 15 mpg (say big truck gashog traded to large crossover) translates to $875/year. Coversely, at 35 mpg, another 5 mpg bump is only $187/year, which means from purely economic point of view, there are better choices than hybrids, or in other words, fuel is not enough justification to go from s 4-cylinder to hybrid Camry. The fuel cost curve is a hyperbola approaching infinity at 0 mpg, so drops are large at low mpgs and small at high.
After being here for 10 years, I see manufacturers and merchants insulting intelligence of their customers and getting away with that over and over again. I don't believe in 24 mpg on a hard-driven Corvette for a second.
For comparison, I own a Viper that gets 12 mpg in mixed driving and that's if I don't drive it hard at all. On the highway, with a tailwind and in 6th gear at 1200 rpm I can practically idle along at 70 mph and get around 22 mpg but who wants to do that?
If you drive 12,000 miles per year and you pay $3.75 a gallon for RUG the difference between a car that gets 25MPG and 28MPG will be about $262.50 annually.
If you keep the car 10 years the difference will be $2625.00 and 700 gallons of RUG.

You totally nailed it! This is a Great country - big part of its greatness was achieved BECAUSE it made it possible for people without 5th grade math skills rather than shutting them out. It finds a way to make them more productive and engaged for promise of life that is better than their actual paycheck. You and I it's not really true, but they don't. She dosed off (I wasn’t home. I was at one of the son’s places helping with a home project and it was really hot outside) and when she smelled something burning she jumped up, ran to the stove, still a little groggy and slid the pot onto the Formica top just enough to create a nice little arc from the pot, clear into the dark core material (the top is beige). When I got home she was still very upset with herself and said, “that’s it, I’m never making this again”. I tried to make her feel better and said, “hell, I like that stuff, now that you ruined the top you can make it a hundred times and you won’t have to worry about doing that again”. I then ran upstairs, locked myself in the bathroom and took a shower.
Guess what she wants to buy now? I’m surprised she didn’t run out immediately and get one. Heck, it cheaper than a dining room set that we don’t need.

God we have R&R Contact Management now and it blows completely. I think it would be ok if our network was faster but it is just too slow. It sometimes takes me 20 minutes just to log all of a customer's information in. My coworker was trying to complete some scheduled tasks this morning and it took him 30 minutes to do just four things.
Normally you would be right but several things are happening at the same time to screw us.
1. This is our normal slow time of year. 2. Gas prices have killed our used business and are hurting the fringes of our new business. 3. I have a lot of people waiting to hear what the 2009 Range Rover will look like. I was told in the past that the 2009 model will not be the all new body style but we haven't gotten specs for the 2009 Range Rover yet. I have specs for all other 2009 Models except the Range Rover. That tells me something is happening with it but I don't know what. 4. We get a fair amount of business from Stock Market financial people and some of them are really hurting or at least nervous. 5. Our leases are so uncompetitive that an identical MSRP Merc or BMW leases for between 150 and 200 dollars less a month then a competing Land Rover product. You won't get as much content in the German SUV at the same MSRP but you have 150 plus dollars of monthly payment to meet the Land Rover equipment level. An comparably equipped Merc or BMW is still usually over 100 dollars less a month then a Land Rover.
We had a couple in on saturday that were 12,000 buried in a Land Rover. They had just bought a new house much farther away from where the people worked and the gas prices are just KILLING them.
They are stuck. REALLY stuck!
Worse yet, it's a LEASE and they are going to be WAY over miles!

Yeah I did. Last summer.
When we moved back to the Burgh from S.C. in 98’ she had her choice of tops when we I re-did the kitchen. I remember saying something about the heavy duty tops but she said she liked the color selection of the 70’s stuff better and that she never had a problem with it. That’s what happens when you start patting yourself on the back like that. So, like a good husband I installed the kitchen with the help of my two sons. Cabinets and counter tops (as long as they aren’t granite or the like) are very easy to install. I learned to do that when I was in high school helping cabinet installers on Saturdays for a while. My Father was a kitchen designer at an upscale kitchen supplier at that time and felt I could use the money and, better yet, the know how for later in life. He was right again.
The money is long gone but the knowledge isn’t.
Oh, yeah, the topic thing; I don’t think that supplier had a high mileage delivery truck back then. We complained about gas hogs back then (I think we always have) but not like now.

Saturday we had some people come in wanting to buy a Hybrid Escape. They were some real Gronola eating tree hugging type people who wanted to save the enviroment by driving a Hybrid. Or so we thought. Any how we told them that we would let them know this morning if the one we had was sold or not. We had a deposit but the customer had not drove it yet. Ended up he wanted one with factory Nav.
We called Adam and Eve this morning to let them know it was available and they informed us that they left our place and went and bough a Dodge SUV with a Hemi in it. :confuse:

I have seen it more in the last two weeks then I ever have. That is people trading down. Allot of big SUV's and trucks for the Fusions and the Focus. We had a conversation today that if the trend continues we are going to have all the gas guzzlers we can stand in our used car inventory and will have to start trading on buy bids only.
But for the life of me I cannot understand how people can justify in there minds that they are being thrifty buy parking there 12 MPG SUV with a $550 a month payment and then buying a new Focus for $325 a month. You can put allot of gas in that SUV for $325 a month, and that does not even take into consideration the added insurance and maintanence cost. plus you are still paying the $550 for a car you are not driving. :confuse:
To me the only way it makes sense is if you can pay cash for a car that you can recoup your costs in a year from the gas savings.
For the most part a car that is worth $2500 today will be worth close to that a year from now.

If he gets in it's my personal prediction that with all the crazy people around he won't last a year in office.

Wish they would have been doing it about 7 years ago.
The patriot act makes some of our day to day process harder but it does not bother me at all. I belive in what they are doing and I belive in the POTUS. Few could have done much better with the hand he has been dealt in the last 8 years.
I don't wish anything bad on him. I just know what political tensions are like nowadays and I read daily stories about what various nutballs are doing.
Obama wouldn't be my first choice for the next president but I made it through 8 years with Bubba at the helm so I guess I could live with it.
Joel.........From a Hybrid to a Hemi????? How can you do that? :confuse: It defies all logic.
I think they wanted something new and they got a Great price on it.
Next month they'll want to dump it for better gas mileage. :confuse:

Last week I get a phone call from the Lexus dealer. Same thing.
Today I get a mailer from Audi USA.
Are these guys hurting so much they’ve now resorted to going after Hyundai customers? Am I now worthy of moving up? :confuse:

It had better been one heck of a deal. You could not give me a good enough deal on a gas gussler. :lemon:
"Tie me up and you can do anything you want.!"
So I did and went golfing!
Damn it Mack, that was close. The next time you post an animation that BIG how about giving some warning.
Mrs. jmonroe was watching Dancing with the Stars, saw it, jumped up and said what is that and starts laughing. It can’t get much closer than that.
