Chrysler has extended it for another month. Must be its working...a little anyway.
I dunno. Many, many years ago I worked in a furniture store/warehouse. We occasionally ran full page ads for special sales in the major St. Louis area newspaper.
If a particular sale didn't draw the crowds that upper management had hoped for they would sometimes run another ad the following week that said something like, "Due to the heavy response of our big sale last weekend we are extending it this weekend to allow everyone a chance to get in the door."
Sometimes a customer would ask me just how hectic it was the previous week if they had to turn people away. I figured out a response that wouldn't be lying. I just told them that the word "sale" almost always attracts big crowds.
"...He buys them cheap and re-sells them after a year for around what he pays for them..."
Yea, I read your follow-up after I posted. Are you telling me people are willing to buy a used Toyota private party for the same price as new? Are they nuts?
If that is the case will you sell me a dozen which I will rent out for a year and then get all my money back? :shades:
2019 Kia Soul+, 2015 Mustang GT, 2013 Ford F-150, 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible
Well, he practically "steals" them. Drives them for a year and sells them and buys another one at rock bottom price. He's picking up another one tomorrow afternoon. Yes, I will sell you a dozen. It would make my month.
I was proud of myself.... apparently I had gotten a price so low that the only way to make a profit on the deal was to make it an employee price. J Monroe and the Jipster would have been proud
Well, jmonroe never would have gotten that good of a price... as he is one of those "internet only" people. Where's the fun in that? But, I'm proud of ya Kevin. Only by showing up at the dealership in person, and working those salespeople and numbers, will you get what is considered the "best" price.
I luvmybuick too! I've owned my 1999 Buick Regal LS for a little over 4 years now. It's been a great car. Looking at either a Buick LaCrosse, Nissan Altima, or maybe even a Ford Fusion when I get back into the market for an automobile. If gas prices weren't so outrageous, I would consider a Buick Enclave. :shades:
The word negotiate means to fight with words to the settlement of two parties. It has amazed me over the years how vexed some salesmen become when a customer puts up a fight. If you dont have the sales skills to navagate a tough deal ,get out .If your too greedy to just look for the 3 pounders, get out.It is not your divine right " to put bread on the table" you have to be good at what you do and soon your going to have to be the best because I just opened a company called Big Ticket Advisor. My client picks the car they want ,the dealership they want and then I go with them and negotiate for them and protect them from start to finish. The website is the same as my company.Wish me luck.
Yes I am but doing it right. Flat fee to the client only $99.
Then that means you are contracting dealers to be your point of sale, which in turn whatever you are charging them the dealer will roll back into the sale price. So in the long run all that is accomplished is that the customer pays $99 more for a car then what they could have walked in off the street and paid for it if they would have just done 45 minutes of research before they left the house.
Here is my list of all the successful professional car shoppers I have run across over the years.
1........................
I have had a hundred of them contact me promising a guaranteed sale for the low price of $250 a lead, then they want to come in and play good cop bad cop with them being the good guy looking like they are protecting the consumers interest.
The person that does 45 minutes of research and understands it and how a dealership really makes their money is not my client.I am also completely independent of the dealer I insist the client picks the dealership. I will not take a bird dog under any circumstance. My client is the person whos last car buying experience was a disaster. Do you think I may have a customer base out there?
The person that does 45 minutes of research and understands it and how a dealership really makes their money is not my client.
You got that right. Many people are intimidated over having to go to a dealership, negotiate and buy a car. A $100 to let someone else do all the "dirty work" sounds pretty good to me.
you're right, platform sharing and badge engineering are 2 different. Domestics Badge Engineer (The Entire Mercury Line & GMC Trucks just to name a few), while imports platform share.
The Prelude is built on its own platform. The Civic, CRV, & Integra shared a platform.

A dealer on Ebay Motors, who has a few cars I'm interested in, advises that if a potential buyer runs an AutoCheck vehicle history and it reports frame damage on one of his cars, "this does not mean that the car has been in an accident...it is just an announcement...due to bank placing announcements so that all their sales are final, and they have no returns by dealers". The dealer is claiming, I believe, that cars he's purchased at auto auctions (and now selling on Ebay) may be announced as frame damage only to make his auction purchases final, not necessarily reflecting anything wrong with the cars. DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE?!
"...Here is my list of all the successful professional car shoppers I have run across..."
Maybe he could have saved me the extra $178 dollars I paid for my Eclipse. I'm sure the visions of starving salespeople's children would have no effect on a pro.
2019 Kia Soul+, 2015 Mustang GT, 2013 Ford F-150, 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible
No. How would a bank doing this make a sale any more final? The only way this would make sense is if the auction had as a condition of sale that if the buyer later discovered undeclared frame damage on a vehicle, the buyer could return it.
But why stop at frame damage? Why not say all cars have blown engines and bad trannies too, just in case?
Maybe one of the guys in the biz knows more about this. One guiding principle I learned (I think it was from Isell) was that whenever a car comes with a "story", it's time to run away. :lemon:

Not to me.
The seller has already told you a problem exists but you are to ignore that. Only someone who goes into a deal looking for a wrecked car would be happy doing business with that seller. :confuse:

There is a Scion dealer in a Pittsburgh suburb that is advertising a “free lifetime power train warranty” if you buy from them. As I understand it, Scion is a non-negotiable company so I take it that this is the way they feel they can attract customers.
How much reading between the lines it will take to confirm the promised warranty is left to the buyer as usual, right?

Dang... too late. Last time I ever go grocery shopping.
Listening to the radio on the way home from grocery store, some guy talking about eating cicadas that were climbing around on his aluminum siding. Maybe, I'll leave my window open. I bet oldfarmer loves a nice bowl of cicadas in the morning, with his coffee. :confuse:
Can you please explain what you mean? I don't quite understand.
OK, I’ll try.
Anytime I hear FREE, I’m on guard and since this is the only dealer that is offering this, that I know of, it sounds too good to be true. We have a guy in the biz here (Mack) who works for a group that sells Scions, so he might be the best one to answer this question.
Let’s give him a little time to wake up. He probably gets home late and by the time he bangs around on his drum set and/or screeches his guitar, he really wears himself out doing this late at night so it takes a while for him to get in here.

You are right to be on guard and it is something we have talked about in the past.
I am aware of a few dealers that off lifetime "powertrain warranties".
Ussualy they are only up to 100k but some are lifetime.
You are also right that it ain't really free. You have to do every recommended service at this paticular dealer. MISS ONE oil change there and all bets are off. They know the engine is going to last especialy if you are doing all your service there.
Sentence and paragraph structure also need work. Also some transition words would help. In conclusion my son's AP English teacher would give a failing grade to those posts.

I am just glad you guys have learned to live with my writing skills. Trust me I am a much better talker than a writer.
Just let me turn my back for a few hours and you guys get into trouble. Your son's AP teacher would certainly be disappointed in bigticket's posts. Now, you know that I have tried not to do many corrections during the last few months. While I wish bigticket well in his new venture, let us hope that all of his negotiations are verbal rather than written.
While his sentence structure and paragraph formation need attention, there is one mistake that he MUST correct in the future. Too many people are killing the word "your". This word is a possessive pronoun which shows ownership. Example: "Your" car needs washing. Bigticket uses the word in the place of "you're". "You're" is a contraction for the words "you are". Example: "You're" washing the car today. Now, let's put both of them together in this example: "You're" washing "your" car this afternoon.
I don't know why, but we're seeing so much of this recently involving the word "your". I have even caught my new teachers using "your" incorrectly during the last year or two.
Please don't allow this little lesson to keep you from posting. The "regulars" here know me; new posters may not.
Btw, it would benefit bigticket if he would space between sentences when typing.

Are you sure you want an S40? I ask because I sat in a current-gen V50 recently, & thought the interior looked incredibly "cheap", not as nice as even an 850 I thought.
Then there are stories about the poor resale value of S40's & V50's; is that accurate?
But I get what you're saying about a friendly dealer........
Hi Joel. Have you seen the Ford Flex? I'm not in the market for that kind of vehicle, but it looks really cool. Hope it is as successful for you as the Edge.
"You're" is a contraction for the words "you are".
I don't know why, but we're seeing so much of this recently involving the word "your". I have even caught my new teachers using "your" incorrectly during the last year or two.
C’mon you know exactly why it’s happening. It’s because we have become used to writing like we speak. Even I've caught myself doing this a time or two and "your/you're" has gotten me too. If we wrote without contractions we would easily improve our writing and see our mistakes. When I was in school, if we wrote with contractions that was an automatic way to get a ‘D’ or worse on that assignment.
Since I couldn’t handle any of that I wrote the way I was taught to write instead of the way I talked. I ain’t no dope ya know.
If we would only write the way we drive our new cars (properly that is), this problem wouldn’t exist.

Don't pay any attention to these guys ribbing you about your writing skills. I can see by the tenor of their posts that they fear you. Richard, did I use "tenor" correctly here?
Anyway, I admire anyone who is trying to make an honest buck, so I sincerely wish you the best of luck.
Most of the people that I talk to say they are holding off on buying a new car right now. I am wondering how you guys are doing with all the crap going on with gas prices, declining stock market, etc, etc.
Are you noticing a downturn?
I am older than most of you and this particular economic climate reminds me of when Jimmy Carter was President. Everything was gloom and doom until Reagan came along and rescued us.
