As I am not too familar with the various factors that go into computing a lease payment and with negative equity, I still find that number to be a little excessive. However, If I am wrong, I stand corrected in advance. If you have any other suggestions, I am open to them in reagrds to getting out of my current lease.

I don't think he is too far off.
VA sales tax is on the full purchase price and you have a $795 acquisition fee, dealer fee, DMV.
Maybe, $1800-$1900, if you make a really aggressive deal.

I'm surprised they could bury that much negative equity in a $73K car. I'll guess that you would need to put up the $12000, at least.

I can't imagine a scenario where this would make any sense.

Understanding that the scenario might not make sense to most. To me it does because I just have to get out of the vehicle I am currently in. Any tips on the best methods to get out of my current lease are greatly appreciated.

Every $1000 down takes about $30/mo. off of the payment.

I don't know the specifics of your situation. I do know that eating $26K of negative equity makes no sense. Is your leased car infested with bedbugs?

What is the payment?
What is trade-in value and payoff?

@Michaell Taxes/Fees to be rolled into the payment. I was putting down 3K just as a down payment in addition to the first month's payment.

Could you also price out the monthly payments if I were to carry ver 5K and 10K of negative equity? - decided to put a large sum of money towards to my current lease to knock down the payoff due VS putting it down on the lease because it wouldn't offset the negative equity and I would be in a worst spot than I am now.

As noted from above, MF is marked up.

(oops, I see you are asking for RWD. OK, base MF is .00073, so it's still marked up, just not quite as much)

Are you using all of the trade equity as CAP reduction? We'd advise against that - you'd lose the money if the car is stolen or totaled.

No my Oooops. It is the 4Matic so you were right the first time. And thank you - I had no idea I would lose the $14,300 in Cap Reduction if the car is stolen or totaled. I guess the best option would be to sell privately and keep the money in pocket for the monthly payment as opposed to putting a chunk down?

You can trade in the car to the dealer, and have them give you a check for the equity. But yes, keep the money in your pocket for the higher payment you'll end up with.

You only want to pay the first payment and registration costs at signing.
