    Thanks for the assist on this. I received a quote from a dealer at 39 months showing .00098 and 54% with a cap cost of $34,814. Does this seem right to you? That same dealer is telling me MF goes up and resid goes down too much for VW to want to do 48 months. - Thoughts?
    Hi all! In the end, I wound up going with an SEL 4 motion, Platinum Gray with the Gray Leather Interior. Here is my deal:

    Cap Cost: $30,262, 39 months 10K a year, $379/month, Taxes Tags, all rolled in - $500 down + First Payment It's been two days and I'm loving the car.

    here's numbers i'm getting for a lease on 2019 TIGUAN SEL AWD, zip 10001

    INITIAL NUMBERS:
    MSRP = $ 34,864
    Dealer Discount of 14.16% = $ 4589.42
    Selling price = $ 30,274
    * NY sales tax = $ 1277.38
    * NY MV = $ 293
    * Doc fee = $ 449
    * VW Credit bank fee = $ 675
    * We dont do Etching
    * Numbers based on excellent credit & evidence of employment for Pepsi
    15K MI/YEAR, 39MONTHS
    $3K down
    lease $369.05 month
    $500 PEPSICO partnership award

    I ASKED:
    1. is the $500 PEPSICO award applied to the upfront money?
    2. what is required for evidence of pepsi employment—my partner is the employed, we live at the same address.
    3. NY MV: i will be transferring plates from present tiguan to new tiguan; according to DMV transfer fee is about $170.
    4. doc fee is quite high; competitors start at $75 but willing to meet somewhere in the middle.

    DEALER REPLIED:
    1) $500 Pepsico is applied to discount not upfront money
    2) I would need your partners DL & employment card
    3) Changed NY DMV transfer fee to $185. If NY charges more you are responsible
    4) Our doc is $449 minus $75 = $ 374 divided by 2 = $187, so we lessen the discount by $187

    ** Now the savings = $4776.85, but we still have to show $449 for doc. Your monthly payment is now $360.26
    ** I have been quoting the whole time Stone Blue with Gray Interior Tiguan SEL 4-MO
    _______________

    the dealer appears willing to work with me in lowering doc fee and using realistic DMV plate transfer fee.
    i was hoping to see a larger reduction in the initial monthly but it only went from $369 to $360.
    do you see more opportunity to reduce the quote or is this a reasonable place i should be satisfied with?

    thank you very much.

    How much are you paying at signing for that quote?

    Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost they are using.

    I thought NY capped the doc fee at $75; lately, I've been seeing more dealers adding another fee to the deal to get around this.

    DEALER REPLIED:
    1) When you talk about adjusted cap cost, are you talking about the difference minus the NY taxes & fees?

    why would they ask this question—as if trying to get around an industry-wide understood term?

    thanks for your help.

    Either the dealer doesn't truly know what the term is, or they're trying to confuse the situation.

    Is this a dealer you really want to do business with?

    To me, adjusted cap is the selling price, plus any taxes or fees you don't pay up front, less any down payment and incentives.

    — why would the dealer ask about defining adjusted cap cost?… what do i tell him?
    — i guess i'm paying $3,000 total out-the-door inclusive, but will confirm

    thanks for your help.

    Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost they are using.

    I thought NY capped the doc fee at $75; lately, I've been seeing more dealers adding another fee to the deal to get around this.

    1) When you talk about adjusted cap cost, are you talking about the difference minus the NY taxes & fees?
    2) I thought in all previous e-mails you wanted calculated with only $3000 out total?
    3) No matter what we still have to charge $ 449 but we lessen the selling price to meet the difference like I mentioned in previous e-mail

    — why would the dealer ask about defining adjusted cap cost?… what do i tell him?
    — i guess i'm paying $3,000 total out-the-door inclusive, but will confirm

    thanks for your help.
    You control the negotiations. If you don't want to come up with $3000 to start, tell them.You'll have a higher payment, but you won't risk losing that money if the car is stolen or totaled.

    In NY, we recommend the up front costs include:
    1. First payment
    2. Registration costs
    3. State taxes

    Roll the fees into the cap cost and make them part of the monthly payment.

    here's numbers i'm getting for a lease on 2019 TIGUAN SEL AWD, zip 10001

    INITIAL NUMBERS:
    MSRP = $ 34,864
    Dealer Discount of 14.16% = $ 4589.42
    Selling price = $ 30,274
    * NY sales tax = $ 1277.38
    * NY MV = $ 293
    * Doc fee = $ 449
    * VW Credit bank fee = $ 675
    * We dont do Etching

Your monthly payment is now $360.26
    ** I have been quoting the whole time Stone Blue with Gray Interior Tiguan SEL 4-MO

    the dealer appears willing to work with me in lowering doc fee and using realistic DMV plate transfer fee.
    i was hoping to see a larger reduction in the initial monthly but it only went from $369 to $360.
    do you see more opportunity to reduce the quote or is this a reasonable place i should be satisfied with?

    thank you very much.

    Assuming those are all the fees, then your adjusted CAP cost would be the selling price minus the 83.78.
    ___________________
    okay, so with that information, am i getting a good or at least fair deal on this lease?
    thanks for your input.

    MSRP = $ 34,864

    ** Now the savings = $4776.85
    Selling price = $ 30,274
    * NY sales tax = $ 1246.96
    * NY MV = $ 185
    * Doc fee = $ 449
    * VW Credit bank fee = $ 675
    * We dont do Etching
    * Numbers based on excellent credit & evidence of employment for Pepsi
    15K MI/YEAR, 39MONTHS
    $3K down
    lease $360.25 month
    Yes, that's a good deal.

    I'd roll the bank fee and the doc fee into the payment; your out of pocket drops to $1876, and your payment goes up about $29/mo.

    here's numbers i'm getting for a lease on 2019 TIGUAN SEL AWD, zip 10001

    INITIAL NUMBERS:
    MSRP = $ 34,864
    Dealer Discount of 14.16% = $ 4589.42
    Selling price = $ 30,274
    * NY sales tax = $ 1277.38
    * NY MV = $ 293
    * Doc fee = $ 449
    * VW Credit bank fee = $ 675
    * We dont do Etching

    ______________________
    DEALER REPLIED:
    1) When you talk about adjusted cap cost, are you talking about the difference minus the NY taxes & fees?

    _____________
    I REPLIED:
    1. adjusted cap cost: selling price, plus any taxes or fees i don't pay up front, less any down payment and incentives
    2. yes, $3000 total—just want to confirm that’s the absolute total i pay over on signing. wasn’t sure if it was $3000 + first month
    3. ok, thanks.

    please let me know what adjusted cap cost based on above is and confirm that it’s $3000 inclusive of all taxes, fees, first month, absolute.

    DEALER REPLIED:
    $3000 minus:

    1) $1246.96 sales tax
    2) $185 approx NY MV
    3) $675 VW credit bank fee
    4) $449 doc
    5) $ 360.26 1st motnh payment

    equals: -$ 83.78 cap cost reduction

    this is getting confusing. i don't know why he starts with the $3000 for this.
    what do i say to get the figure you need to evaluate this deal?
