2019 Lincoln Navigator and Navigator L Lease Deals and Prices

What is the math behind calculating a lease payment? I thought is was a simple loan calculation of taking the difference between the negotiated PP and the residual and applying the interest rate over the term.  My dealer is coming up with a very different number using the same inputs. The math they are using straight line amortizes the difference (the depreciation) THEN adds the interest.  If you divide the interest by the depreciation it’s about 8%, not 3.5%. 

Looking for a second opinion, I’ve never leased a car. Thank you.

You aren't paying interest on the depreciation amount. You are paying interest on the full price of the vehicle (at the beginning), then the residual amount (at the end). Just like a loan.

After all, the bank buys the car from Ford for the full amount you negotiate. They can't make money, if only applying interest to a portion of that amount.

I don't know what the discounts are. I have seen discounts on the Expeditions of over $5000. $3500 off MSRP is pretty standard. This is before the $2250 lease rebate. I have been shopping for a solid week almost full time. Probably not worth the time. What you really have to look at with these dealerships is the fees. I have found some will discount the car $500 more than the other guy but then charge $600 more as a fee. Its challenging - I think on purpose - to compare apples to apples. I hate to say it but its almost easier to look at the payment. Biggest problem is that cars are all different as well.

Why is your request for 36/12, but the quote is for 39/12?

Which term do you prefer?

I would recommend only putting down the first payment and registration costs at signing - anything beyond that is at risk and you would lose it if the car is stolen or totaled.

What payment were you quoted?

And the quote you've shared is also 36/12? I suspect not, as the APR is 3.78%, which tracks with the 39 month term from Ford.

I get $1433/mo, with tax, using those prices.

Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost used for their quote, and what was added to the selling price to get there.

I get $960/mo if I use $79,914 as the cap cost.

Ask the dealer for the cap cost they used for their $997/mo quote.
