    There is lots of great information here about how to get the best deal on a new lease, but I'm wondering if anyone here can provide advice on how to transition out of an existing lease and the best way to find someone to take it over. I got a good deal and put $10k down on my 2018 Navigator. It's a beauty of a vehicle (Rhapsody Blue Reserve model with premium wheels, etc... ) I'm 11 months into a 36 month lease and while I absolutely love the vehicle I need to transition to something less expensive and that I can put more miles on due to a change in jobs.

    Any advice welcomed, thanks in advance!

    Oof. This is gonna hurt.

    There are websites available that can assist you with this - swapalease is one I'm familiar with.

    I don't think you'll recoup the $10K down; in fact, many of the swapalease deals has the current lease holder paying the person taking over the lease a premium to do so.

    Beyond that, trying to trade out of the lease with 25 months left will be prohibitively expensive.

    Let me get some expertise over here to offer up their opinions.

    What is your monthly payment and how much mileage is left?

    Unfortunately FMC does not allow sales to most third party dealers - CarMax, Vroom, Carvana etc.

    FMC allows lease transfers in some states. You may be able to get someone to take it over if you’re willing to sacrifice some or all of your downpayment.

    Thanks for your reply. I’m running a little over on the miles but there are 27,000 miles left so it averages out to 1,038 miles per month left on the lease for 26 months.

    I recognize the $10k down payment is gone I would be looking for someone to just take over the payments of $1,578.

    Lincoln financial says they will perform a transfer so that’s good. I guess it’s just a matter of finding someone interested in taking over the payments.

    Thanks for the response. Yes I recognize that the down payment is likely gone and I am willing to sacrifice that. At this point I am just looking for someone to take over the payments. I’m trying leastrader to see if I can get any bites there.

    To be brutally honest, I don't think you're going to find a taker at that monthly - not because it is unreasonable for that car, but just the pool of folks willing to take on a $1500 a month lease is very small. Swapalease is going to be a good option and in my experience their rep will give you an honest assessment of what it will take to move it in terms of an incentive. You may not want to hear it or may not be able to do it, but you'll at least get an evaluation. What was the original MSRP?

    Have you taken it to a Ford/Lincoln dealer to get a buy quote? That can at least tell you just how upside down you are.

    These cars depreciate pretty hard in their first year.
