Dude, what ever happened in your situation? If I were you, I'd sue, sue, sue, sue, sue, sue, sue the [non-permissible content removed] outta both the dealership and Chrysler Corp!!!!!!! The people at your dealership are flat-out liars, and didn't want to honor the warranty and need to pay! Hope you got some reimbursement!
Thanks Everyone for the advice! I am getting together with a lawyer this week to discuss my actions. From my understanding the dealer is not as responsible as Chrysler is. In my opinion, Cummins is more responsible for there problems. The dealer has been very good at fixing my issuses. They are also standing behind me until this gets resolved. Just have to hurry up and wait on the Due Process of this headache. Such as life!
YOU ARE TAKING THE CORRECT APPROACH. AS YOU SAID ,THE DEALER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DESIGN FLAW. THEY'VE DONE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO TRY TO CORRECT A DESIGN THAT SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK. MY DEALER STOOD BEHIND ME DURING MY BUYBACK AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER WITH THE OUTCOME. GOOD LUCK TO YOU. I HOPE EVERYTHING WORKS OUT FOR YOU. OLDTECH
I have a 97 dodge 3500 12 valve cummins and everytime I put the A/C on the engine stalls when I brake hard or turn tight or when I`am at idle. i `am at a loss any ideas Thanks chef
Check your throttle cable. If it's still the original "uncoated" design, it's probably frayed and close to breaking. There was a recall for this years ago. Same symptoms on my 96 3500 12-valve - new coated throttle cable cured it.
towing a truck on trailer, pulled off interstate, truck quit at top of exit ramp, started with a little pressure on the accelerator, however it wont idle, it will bearly run above 1500 rpm, no electronic fault codes are appearing. took off the fuel filter and changed. it was full of debri. any ideas what else it might be? about to begin testing fuel pressure and injectors. NEED HELP
my truck has been in the shop for 2 weeks now, i have a loss of power to the fuel pickup on top of the tank, only ONE wire out of 15 or 20 has power and it only gets power to just below the cab. also, replaced fuel filter because truck wouldnt start, not getting fuel. now i only get air through fuel lines, could be cracked line, bad fitting, stopped off pickup, transfer pump? have no clue where to start. should i be concerned that no electric could be from fuel shut off sensor, if so why is it not showing up on computer/electric codes? the truck passed the code check, no failures. need advice!!!!!! thanks, red
I have a 96 ram 4x4 diesel Turbo when new I was getting 21 mpg, now only 12 to 13 mph. Dealer can't find any thing wrong. Truck has 184000 on it. I have had all the regular mainteance done on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I know the the 6.7L has been out for about a year now and I was wondering, does anyone know if the serious "bugs" have been worked out of the engine, the "BlueTec" emissions system, and the 68RFE automatic transmission yet?
Your exhaust brake does not affect mileage. I have owned two 6.7liter cummins and have had no problem with them. You just simply have to drive them. They are not meant for a run around town type of rig, they are best suited for pulling and long drives. Seriously, I have not had one problem. However, when I took my wife's car on a recent trip and let her drive my pickup around town to pick up kids from school etc. the truck did not do so hot. Lights went off, truck would not shut off until it idled for quite awhile etc...
When I am on a trip I always keep my exhaust brake on. nice to let off the gas if you see a highway patrol and the truck just slows down without hitting the brakes.
hope, this helps. They are awesome trucks, but are truly made to work!
I have two of these new blue tec's and I have not had any trouble with them. Both are manual's. However, they are both on the highway a lot and both pull trailers. A majority of the problems people are facing is that they are not getting them hot enough to keep all the equipment cleaned out. They will plug up if you idle them a lot or just run them around town. These trucks need to work! I have edge chips and large air box's on both of them. I can get around 18mpg empty and about 12-14 pulling 15,000lbs.
I have a 01 dodge 2500 diesel cummins I got a code P0251 stating that Injection pump fuel metering control "A" malfunction, does anyone know what that it's.
I have a Ram 2500 when turn the key switch on the check engine light and the generator light come on wait 5 to 10 sec I get a click and the gen light goes out truck won't start without giving it a little go peddle it will idle but if I put it in drive it stalls but in reverse it will run. Any ideas?
Not likely. Computers have the VIN coded in them these days. Plus, the 03 and 05 engines were different. The sentry key system is likely controlled by the body computer, not the engine or powertrain computers.
Today, I had to stop short in traffic in my 02 2500 cummins powered ram, and stalled out. When I reset the ignition to restart, I got no warning bells until I had cranked for several seconds, Now, I get the warning bells, but still wont restart, and the bells chime in again after cranking for about 5-10 seconds. Engine light is on. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks
I have an early '97 Dodge 2500 Cummins that recently decided not to start. Actually it will start and rev up but will not run. It dies quickly like it's not getting fuel, but then it will have enough fuel to start and rev up again before dying. Is the lift pump the most likely culprit here or could it be something else?
when I start the truck for the first time of the day it cuts out when taking of for the first mile or two then it runs like it should once warmed up . Anyone got ideas what it might be?
I have recently changed my fuel filter on this truck and then about a week later I ran it to empty (oops). Now for no reason when running at a slow speed or coming to a stop the truck will stall. I get no warning lights it just stalls or sometimes it will run great and then I park it for work after work go to start it and it wont start, next day starts fine. Any suggestions?
hello all I have a 2006 dodge ram 3500 single rear wheel 4x4 auto tranny with a six inch lift and 37 inch tires. I pull a huge 5th wheel with it and on grades it really slows down to about 25 to35 mph. I changed out the gears to 4 88 put a 4 inch exhuast a cold air intake and the super chips programer. what can i do to get more power or maybe something is wrong with the truck. I also have a 2001 2500 but with a six speed manual trans with 33 inch tires and 4 10 gears. I used to pull the same trailer with and the grades never where a problem for it
In a nutshell, my 1995 Dodge 5.9 Cummins Diesiel 4 WD truck has been running well for nearly 200,000 miles. Recently, there has been a domino effect of problems happening that I just have not been able to pinpoint the solution! First, this summer I turned my a/c on high, then it just stopped cooling completely. Then, shortly after that, the charging system went out (I have to hook it up to a charger overnight to start it in the morning). Then, it stopped shifting into overdrive except when I am pulling a load with my dump trailer. Also, the cruise control will not stay set, and will just keep accelerating. THERE HAS TO BE A SOLUTION TO THIS! YOUR HELP IS NEEDED! THANKS.
I have a 2000 ram 3500 /w 5.9 cummins. It has a 5 speed trans. It has 270000 miles on it. last week i put fuel in it and immedantly is lost half the power.I have no check engine lights on, I changed fuel filter, added lucas injector cleaner. No luck. I was told it was probally the lift pump going out so I replaced it. No luck. I siponed most of the fuel out and added new fuel. Again"No luck" The truck will sometimes pickup and run great and other times I only have half the power. This has been a great pickup up untill now. Any help would be great.
cranks over great, but only starts after excessive cranking. after starting runs fine. about 2 months ago problem was it would start and shut right off after 5 or so sec. then it would start right up and run fine. replaced the pick up pump and ever since seems like problem got worse, or i have another prob?replaced batteries and starter. any help is greatly appreciated. no fault codes logged
I have a 06 ram 2500 with a 5.9 diesel and with the fuel prices I do not drive it a lot it seats in a garage. How long can it eats before it become a problem with the fuel? And what can I add to the fuel so it dos not go bad?
Ok, all you folks out there a lot smarter than me. I really don't understand this collusion: Why is diesel not falling hardly at all in my area while gasoline and oil per barrel is falling like a pair of meteorites? It (diesel) is a $1.10 - $1:25 MORE per gallon still than regular unleaded.
Is big oil figuring they are still in control of sticking it to the truckers, aviation industry, and those in the northeast that use heating oil? I just don't get it! Any real insight you have, my nerves can really appreciate hearing it. T29
Here's a good one for you techs.. 04 2500 5.9l 300,000 kms. Problems with very noisy engine. Dealer replaced #1 injector, still noisy, brought it back. I was with tech while hooked up to computer. When he shut down # 6 injector sounded ok. So I said pull all inj. out and test. They all failed. They replaced with remans. All was ok for 5,000 kms. Started to be hard to start when at op. temp. I replaced fuel filter. Did not help. Continually got worse. to the point where it would not start. Had to leave for 1+ hours before it would start. Brought it to another repair shop which specializes in small diesels. Lift pump tested ok injector pump tested ok. no codes. They felt it may be the reman injectors because the electrical parts in each inj.can't be rebuilt. Stated that 20% of fuel is injected into cylinder prior to normal time before TDC. When inj. are hot this may not happen. Brought it back to Dealer for more testing. I relayed this info to them. They are still testing and talking to the reman company. They say it is not the inj.s. They really don't know what the problem is. Also, when in no start condition engine sounds quiet as if no fuel. Give a little sniff of starter fluid and jumps to life. When running sounds good, power is good fuel economy is normal... Any ideas????
Was this just after a refuel? Station attendant accidentally pumped gasoline into mine...did same thing...bad for diesel...worse for station attendant...was responsible for repairs....
Any p-codes? Could be throttle pos. sensor... BUT...my p-code was throttle posision sensor A ckt low imput... Dodge said throttle pos.sensor bad...spent $500+ on new one... was not the problem... did all the electrical diagnostics...now stuck with it... Have to replace ECM $1200 dollars...To get it from a cummins dealer you need your engine number and the ECM serial number... Anybody need a new TPS???
I own a 2003 dodge ram diesel. It has about 106,000 miles on it. One morning it took longer to start than usual. This progressively got worse as days wen't on, until one morning it just would not start. I changed the fuel filter but that did not help. I then decided to plug the block heater in at night and it started everytime. All the fuses are good. I even replaced the fuel heater relay located on the filter housing. Now that it's colder at night even the block heater plugged in won't help it start. Can anyone help?
Have your batteries tested. There's a reason it takes two of them to crank the engine. If you have one good one and one bad one, you will see these hard-starting symptoms, even though once running, everything seems fine (the truck can run on one battery once the engine is operating). And the reason the block heater helped is, a warm engine will always start easier than a cold one... but as the batteries continue to lose charge, that won't help either.
Progressively hard starting has always been my cue to get a fresh pair of batteries with my Cummins Rams.
After lots of research and testing, I found that I have only 10 volts coming from the ecm (engine control module) to the intake heater relays. This is not enough voltage to heat the elements. I don't know why. I'v been told that I might have a problem with the ecm.It sounds expensive!
My 4 wheel drive isn't engaging. Just recently the dashboard light would flicker. Then one day it wouldn't come on, but, I could tell that the 4 wheel drive was engaged and working. Is it a sensor problem or a fuse? A year or so ago, I had a strut break through the housing and take out my fuse box & broke some of the wires going in. Could my present problem still be a reprecustion from that incident?
Any suggestions of what to look for would be greatly appreciated.
Since your issue isn't specific to the Cummins diesel itself (the theme of this discussion), you may want to post your question at Dodge Ram Lighting and Electrical Issues for a quicker response.
i recently put a new engine in my truck. its a high output and the old engine was not. i get trouble codes p0514, p0633, p0192 , p0483 ,and p0480. These came with the new engine. At first it started fine and slowly became harder to start. The last time it started it was turned over for a minute or two. it turned over and sped up with time until it sounded like it was not turning over and not running quit turning over and it started running. left running for the next 12 hours put it in gear and it stalled. now it does not want to start is it the low voltage to fuel sensor p0192 or the skim key not entered p0633 or a combo of everything?
i have a 2005 dodge 3500 diesel (auto trans) with what seems to be a unique problem, when i am in reverse or drive with my foot on the brake it still wants to go just like doing a brake-stand. i don't know were to start.
I have been having the same starting problems as "daddyhawkes" with the same model of truck. I have tested my batteries and they are OK! Any other suggestions? Other things to test?
