hi, have an Audi Allroad quattro and am interested in the expected lifetime of this car. Re same car, the same repairs guy told me car needed thousands in preventive maintenance, told spouse that car needed nothing and was good to get to 150,000 miles (has 85000 miles now and frankly I think it's spending too much time in the repair shop).

Interested in what others think is expected max mileage for this car to be fairly reliable. Thank you!

hello I've heard that it is not recommended that the factory player be removed for custom in dash monitors or any other receiver other than the current player. what steps (if any) should you take to carefully remove the factory player and install any custom players/receivers without damage to the system? thanks

I am looking at a 2005 Subaru Forester with 7800 miles on it. One owner, appears to be in great condition & the price is right ($15k). However, when I went to test drive it, it didnt start. The salesman said someone might have left a particular switch in the "on" position; he jumped it and it drove great. I would like to purchase it, but I am worried that the battery problem might be a bad sign. Is it?

You can find out whether owners have had similar problems in Subaru Forester. You may also want to try Subaru Forester Electrical Problems.

I went to a Acura dealer on Saturday afternoon, the manager offer me a 2004 camery LE, 4 cylinder, 52000 milages at price $11000. HE should me the list of trade in price of this price and all the fees they spent on the repairs, it was $12500. He said since the car has been on the lot for 113 days, if he can't get rid of it, his boss is going to take money from his monthly salary. And if I don't buy it right now, he is going to send it to car auction on monday.
I feel suspecious about it, any suggestions? Should I trust a pre-auction car? :confuse:

I suggest you check the Blue Book value on the car with it's current mileage, and ask the dealer for a written guarantee acceptable to you, otherwise, unless you are a mechanic who can properly evaluate the car, I would avoid it. There are so many new cars like the Camry available for under $20K if you search for a year-end sale going on now.

Posted the following in the TSX Lease track with no answer.
    Please help!

The deal I am currently negotiation on a 2008 TSX is as follows:
$26,631.00 for the TSX, $58.48 for the title transfer, $1,868.26 for the tax, $15.00 for the county fee and $143.00 for new plates. This totals $28,715.74 out the door. Is this a reasonably good deal?
36mo X 15K mile term of .00152 and 60%, the dealer comes up with a payment of $442 while I come up with $360. (Note this is IL, so I believe tax is included up front.) Who is right?

You can try General Questions about Leasing Vehicles, where someone may be able to help with the payment calculation.

For pricing, just check the TMV page, and the Prices Paid discussion to see what others are paying. That might help.

    Hi -

I have a 2000 Impala with the "homelink" feature. I've reset it several times and have noticed that the outside temperature is reading about 10-12 degrees colder than the actual. I see a "variance" control, but the manual doesn't explain how, or if the thermometer (for outside temp) can be calibrated. If so, please explain.

I appreciate your help in advance !

I have a 1998 Chevy Tahoe. The problem is that the wiper blades sometimes don't come on at all, sometimes they come on and go crazy. They stop in different places and sometimes don't stop whe the switch is turned off. I have tried to explain this to my husband and they never do it when he is driving! Help what can the problem be?

I bought my J-30 in 2000 when it was 4 yrs old. I've read the messages posted and have had some of those same issues. It has over 100,000 but still runs great until this last deal. My current problem is a mystery to my mechanic and any other men in my life. On Monday, my husband checked the oil and it was fine. By Friday on my way to work I heard a "tapping" and freaked. I went straight to my mechanic and he checked the oil and it was bone dry. He put in 3 qts and I drove on to work, about 20 miles. I was on a busy exit in Dallas and suddenly, the car died. It was completely gone. No oil. The water in the radiator was a slight brown, but not what it would be if the oil were in there, according to the mechanic. Prior to this, there was no oil on the driveway, no black exhaust coming out of the back, and so forth. Where did the oil go? I had it towed to my mechanic and he's baffled. He says if we can solve this mystery, he can rebuild the engine if there's one good head. (whatever that is...LOL) In the meantime, I'm carless. Please help!

You might try posting in Infiniti J30 Issues, or Got a Quick Technical Question? The latter may get you a quicker response as to where the oil went.

In a previous posting I got the impression that there was not cost to make changes to a 2006 Volvo S60 so that it is suitable for Canada. The Customer Service rep at Volvo Canada suggested I call a dealership service dept to get a list and cost. So, I called a local Volvo dealership and they said it would be $1700 - $2000 to convert the software and the instrument panel. Can anyone please share their experience and recommendations. Thanks!

Price is $41,796 and quoted $39,061 plus the doc fee of $389.00. This is from Atlanta, GA. I live in Wisconsin and am willing to travel if needed. I live in WI. Can someone tell me the name of the dealership in IL that was good to deal with?

You can find people who have recently purchased an RX350 in Lexus RX 350 Prices Paid and Buying Experience. Another topic that may interest you is the Choosing a Dealer - What to Look For discussion. It's probably not your first purchase of a car but, just in case, Selecting and Buying My First Car may be helpful too.

When I put my pacifica in reverse and it starts to roll, it makes a wrenching noise. The car has 7000 miles on it and the dealer is able to replicate the problem but doesn't know what it is. Has anyone else had this issue?

I need to ask a question privately about a message from the poster. How does one do that on these forums?
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
Check the profile to see if the person's email address is public. If it's not, you can make your email address public in your own profile and ask the person to email you. Please do not post your email address, though.

If there's a chance you need information that will benefit others, it would be really great if you'd go ahead and have the conversation with the poster within the discussion. You never know how many people can benefit when you do that. :)

I live in New York city. Our doorman moved my friend's car (BMW328i) and got the bottom of the front bumper scratched a little at the curb. Could anyone tell us an estimate of the minimum cost to paint that part? The scratch is about half inch long and 1cm high. Can we ask for compensation from the doorman?

I don't know if this is the best forum for this, but since there is no "general" board, I'll give it a shot. I currently have a '99 Pathfinder that has a pretty good amount of mileage (153k) and is having problems, so I am ready to buy new. I do like the 2008 Pathfinders (LE) but the gas economy kind of scares me, especially because they recommend premium fuel (for a mid-grade SUV?) Anyway, I am beginning to get very stressed over indecision. I have done more than enough research and am just burned out. I would like suggestions. I have spent loads of time on KBB and Edmunds, so I am not new to this. But maybe I need to step back and see what others say. The only other car I've really looked at is the Hyundai Veracruz. It is a nice luxury car, but for being a CUV, it does not corner very well and it is slow to initially accelerate. I also am not a huge fan of the outside appearance, but I could live with it (there's also that darn speaker that vibrates against my leg! great sound system though)

I am kind of an SUV guy, but am open to suggestions. Here is what I am looking for -
Good looks, like rugged, masculine and maybe sporty.
Good engine power, but doesn't have to be huge, (I like the Pathfinder's v6, the V8 is too costly.)
Decent mileage, doesn't have to be super high.
Some luxury touches, doesn't have to be elite.
Good reputation for being long lasting.
    Powerful sound system!
All wheel or four wheel drive - maybe not essential, but pretty important, I live in New England.
    Price range of about 35 - 40k.

So what do you think? I need to buy soon! Please leave a thought or two with your suggestion.

    All the best,
    Paul
