'63 Studebaker Avanti R2
'63 Studebaker Lark Daytona hardtop
'66-68 International Travelall (after some thought, I'd rather have one of these than a Scout)
early '70s Volvo 1800ES
The only new vehicle I'd really want is a WRX wagon, though if you pushed me I could find room for a Chevy 1/2-ton 4x4 pickup. Maybe a Land Rover Defender 110 if they were reliable. I don't think I have the attitude for a BMW M3, though I'd like to rent one for a week.

Provan Tiger CX Motorhome $65k (would not fit in my garage)

Cost no object, a Defender V8 makes a pretty cool off road vehicle. But even the dream garage has its ceiling.
What about Club Slideways, run like a Rally camp? Or at least an autoX traction course with an instructor, to demonstrate AWD, LSD, and VDC? Bet it would help me convince the wife to go AWD.
Actually, now that I bring it up, it was raining pretty heavy this weekend and she kept spinning her front tires on her 626. I just rotated the tires and they are not worn, and they are all seasons. This despite FWD. I told her, "see, you could benefit from AWD".

$25k - 5 speed WRX wagon
$30k - Chevy Trailblazer
$5k - enclosed trailer big enough for 2-3 motorcycles
$14k - Aprilia Mille RSV
a real italian sportbike-- pic here
$6k - Honda XR650R
mean dual sport, can be made street legal in my state. pic
$20k - Yamaha LSR2000
so what if it's a pair of smog-belching two strokes, it's a great boat for the money.
-Colin
You're probably right, but this seems to be a perfect time to express one's wish list.
After all, tis the season...
Bob
Is the 650 a 2-stroke? Those do make more power. I had a 1987 XL250, single cylinder, 4 stroke, 4 valves per cylinder! It was great until a hair line crack in the carb let debris in and the pistons cracked the valve stems. $700 later is was great again, but then it was stolen.

I used to have a 2-stroke 500cc Kawasaki Mach III triple, back in 1970. At the time, it was was the quickest bike you could buy. Faster (or as fast, depending on who you're talking to), than a 750 Norton Commando, or a CB-750 Honda, or a 750 BSA or Triumph triple; all of which were larger 4-stokes.

2 strokes have twice as many power strokes as four strokes, but yes they consumer more and pollute more too.

2002 BMW M5 (to get the groceries)
1973 Ford Country Squire (always liked this)

I didn't realize that Defender 90s and 110s are no longer sold new in the US. Could probably pick one up used, but that again is a pipe dream.
I'd go to Club Slideways; still looking for a good performance driving school that'll let you BYOC.
Ed
1) WRX 5spd Silver Wagon @ $24100 (Seems pretty popular here)
2) Cadillac Escalade (6.oL 8cyl) @ $50,800
-For my Dad- an old time Cadddy driver
Balance of $25100 to be used to restore
64 Triumph Spitfire
and 54 Dodge 3/4 ton pickup; then build a garage to keep them in!

re: XR650R-- it's near 60HP, the L is only 40ish. all you have to do here is buy the L's rear fender with brakelight & plate holder, and it's road legal.

Semi-knobbies are legal, though.

For the hourly rate charged you should be able to speak directly to the Mechanic who will be working on the car, that way you would have a reasonable chance of having it fixed right the first time.
Cheers Pat.
Cheers Pat.
My wife's car still has axle noise despite the boot replacement. It's really aggravating, and will be back in the shop again. It almost feels like they replaced the boot without putting grease.

The last time I had split boots on my last Honda it was almost as cheap to replace the drive shafts as it was the boots.
Cheers Pat.
1. Modified Jeep Wrangler: $35,000 (Dana axles, air lockers, body and suspension lifts, tires, snorkle, winch, air compressor, air tools, spare parts (for trail damage), Rubicon racks, hot tub (I mean it!!!), and much, much more). That ridiculous price is exactly why my wife and I rent Jeeps when we bump around the Moab, Utah, backcountry.
2. Subaru Legacy GT Limited sedan: $25,000
3. Acura MDX: $35,000
Hey, I even came in under budget. If you count 6.25% Utah sales tax, though, I'm a bit over.
On another note, I finally had the Invizibra installed on my newly-acquired 2000 GT Limited sedan and have been racing around Utah for the last couple of days. What a blast! It feels like I'm driving a V6 even though it has 4 cylinders. My first Subie is quickly impressing me.
Ty
The labor to replace the boot is the same as it is to replace the axle. You just pay a bit more for the CV half shaft part. If you shop around you should be able to find a rebuilt CV half shaft for around $120.

The Edmunds.com chat moderators,Bob and Todd, will note the usernames of the first 15 attendees and direct them to email their usernames, real names, and mailing addresses Edmunds.com. The information will be forwarded onto Subaru, who will mail out the hats.
I think we will be seeing more promotions like this in the future.

Ty, can you tell us more about the invisibra? Is it the clear plastic laminate stuff?

Pat, I wholeheartedly agree. The dealerships in my immediate area don't let you near the garage (insurance liability, which I understand), but hey, that's where the mechanics are.

Hopefully when I go pick it up it will check out and be as advertised.

Invizibra (and its counterparts) is a clear plastic "sticker" that's placed on the most vulnerable portions of the car, like the first twelve inches of the hood and fenders and painted side mirrors. You can get a kit for the bumper, too, but it's pretty expensive. There's also a kit for your headlamps and foglamps, and this kit uses a much thicker plastic. The plastic is so clear that I only notice the line where the plastic stops on the hood. If I had known about this when I bought my '00 CR-V, I definitely would have passed up the bug guard and instead used Invizibra.
I wound up protecting the hood, mirrors, headlamps, and fog lamps on my Legacy for $269. The fenders on '00 to '02 Legacys aren't pronounced much, so the kit didn't cover them.
Ty
Ty- With Invizibra, do you have the problem of moisture getting trapped underneath that I have heard of with regular bras or deflectors?
Mark

It was incredibly different from the Contour that Ford dumped on the US market. Why do the automakers produce a 'world car', then gut it of all driving pleasure when they build it for America???

you gonna remove the air suspension on this one?

You do gain quite a bit of flexibility by spraying the film and vehicle surface down with soapy water (later squeegeed out) while positioning, but I think OCD would make this tougher than it should be (ie, since it's MY car this time). Anybody installed this stuff before? I may look around for a local installer.

I'm not sure what model you have but here are instructions for MY2000+ Legacy (Forester & Impreza also on website):
