My new 05 Outback is only marginally more expensive to insure than the old 02 Outback was. And my wife's new 04 TSX costs about $100 less per year to insure than her old 03 Forester. Go figure. I can see why a WRX might be expensive to insure, but 03 Forester costing more than 04 Acura surprised me.
Craig
My insurer does not categorize it as an SUV, so it's actually the cheapest car to insure for us out of the three (vs. Miata and Legacy).
Still, $878 is small potatoes. Move to NJ and then you can complain!

Try Mass! $1250/year for the 03 Outback. Rob M.

Craig
What do you pay for insurance?
Steve, Host
I'm tagged for $2300/yr., and it isn't even a daily driver.

Mark (who saved $200 a year by moving across the bridge)
99 OB and 04 FXT = $1,008/year. My insurance only dropped $40/yr. went from the WRX to the Forester.
I got a quote of $200 per year less through Geico, but I don't know if it's worth switching.
Met-Life was great when my Rex was stolen. Also have never had more than a $30 or $40 per year increase.

It adds Edmunds' discussions/articles into your MyYahoo page/homepage. Nice but not everyone has Yahoo as their homepage. What about those on AOL?
-Dave
As for AOL, they have their own automotive forums that they most likely prefer their members frequent.

Fitz Subaru had a nice open house yesterday, I would have invited others folks had I known just how nice it was.
The door prize was a nice leatherman tool, basically a swiss army knife on steroids. The kids got an Impreza model car, 1:64 scale, basically a Matchbox car.
They had food, drinks, snacks, and dessert, the works. It was setup like an outdoor Tiki party, pretty cool. There was a dealer trainer there talking about the car, focusing on the GT naturally.
I was a bit disappointed by the attendance, it seems half the people there were the staff! It looked like a staff Happy Hour, basically.
Any how, the kids had fun and the wife sat in a 2.5i Limited sedan and fell in love, so I'm in trouble. She even wants Obisidian Black Pearl so the OCD in me is very, very nervous!

Funny thing is I got on in my dad's name. He's out of town, though.

I'm going through a bunch of cases and issues since I've been tied up the past two weeks. Let me know if I missed something that needs my attention? Thanks to Juice for putting me onto a situation on the Forester boards. I'm back to a level playing field at work, so I'll be catching up with anyone that is waiting for me this week. FWIW - please do not depend on me for any serious issues. Call the 800 number and have them track me down if you aren't happy with the resolution. My normal day job has me out of my office frequently, so I can be hard to reach. We have a lot going on and I found that next year is going to be really exciting (model wise), so it's a good time to be a Subaru owner and customer. Stay tuned. I'll share what I can as soon as I find out what is okay and what will get me in the dungeon.
Patti
I hope that includes a continued future for the Baja, and that a new and much improved version is in the works.
Bob
Patti, a statement like this may keep me on the fence for another year!
For a short time, only the Subie was working out of three cars! One starter motor and one main relay later, things appear resolved.
Our next car will be selected by the dw. It will be a while yet, but the Outback is on her list. 8~) (I'm saving up Subie bucks in hopes of swaying the decision.)
Jim
In the meantime, work on joining a club that offers the VIP program. That coupled with the subie bucks could do major swaying

Just the two of us
Just changed the oil on all 3 cars. I managed not to spill any oil, of course it figures I put a liner under the cars this time. Murphy's Law.
I'll tell you, the dealer is still overtightening stuff, both the filter and the drain plug were a lot harder to remove on my wife's car (last oil change done by dealer) vs. my Forester (me).
They need some OCD training and a torque wrench!

the youngest daughter is in college for at least 2 more years ... i'm in college for at least 3 more years ... and the oldest daughter just went back to school and i'm helping since she needs some future 'options' ...
did you realize that for federal student aid you can claim all the students going to college but not the parent? ... somehow that doesn't seem fair ...

Just recently signed up for the Edmunds' forums, and stumbled into here! I am currently the proud owner of an '02 WRX wagon, but am contemplating upgrading to an '05 OXT Limited. Found a lot of great info here, one quick question: how does one go about joining a VIP program? And, does Subaru give discounts/incentives to current owners?
Thanks to all for the great info!

Also, sign up for a Subaru/Chase MasterCard, which gives cash back in the form of SubaruBucks. I used $800 SubaruBucks as part of a downpayment when I bought my XT. Every bit helps!! I believe you earn back 3% of purchases. I have used the card for big dollar items (appliances) and home imptrovement projects, not to mention downpayments where it's acceptable (like $2K on my wife's new Acura). At that rate, the SubaruBucks accumulate pretty quick.
Craig
If you end up going to Fitz lemme know and I'll put you in touch with my buddy that works there.

Been a lurker for awhile, figured i should finally show my head! I'm in the NE, and possibly moving farther up into VT. Read somewhere that Stacy Subaru in Brattleboro is good, although my folks live in VA, so i guess i could also go to Fitz - would be a great way to get through the first 1k miles quickly!! :-)

Maybe we'll meet up for an Auto Show later on, if you're in town. The DC one is usually at the end of the year.
Come to think of it I'll be in Brazil. We go to the Baltimore and Philly shows some times, too.

Folks are down in Newport News, i'm currently in CT, about am 8 hr drive. Actually met them in Massanutten, VA and a bunch of other families back in June. Talk about a fun ride - me and my 7yo & 5yo!! Thank goodness my laptop has a DVD drive!!
Test drove the OXT5EAT the other day. I dare say the pickup is as fast as my WRX, which was a pleasant surprise! Didn;t get a chance to take it into any twisties, sales guy was a pain. Don't really like the dealership, and when i mentioned the $25, he pooh-pooh'ed it off. Guess that's why i won't be buying from them! Although, they do have a red one w/ black interior, but it does have the microphone shifter! Any thoughts on the taupe interior? I'd imagine the wood accents give it a classier feel, just afraid my kids'll trash the rear in no time!
Oliver - there are a bunch of affiliate companies that are a part of the VIP program. You can check with your HR dept. to see if they have an affiliation.

I also agree that the OB XT feels about as fast as the WRX. It's certainly faster in a more usable and practical way. I used to have to really wring my WRX out to go fast, but the OB XT just breezes up to speed like it's no big deal. I tend to go faster in the OB XT than I did in the WRX because the car gets up to speed much more serenely. On the other hand, the WRX is still a lot more sprightly and more fun to drive.

I wonder whether Patti's 2005 is something like our new Liberties Down Under. The latest Liberty releases include a 3.0 R-B with Bilstein shockers and a six speed manual borrowed from the WRX

It's the sort of thing you could get quite enthusiatic about.

Can't wait for it to get here, maybe I'll get that to replace the SVX next year instead of the Denali

It's a small mountain, though, we joke that it's really called "Mass of Nuthin'".
Patti: very neat, I'd like to see it at some point. Bring it to the next Philly show?
