How much are you upside down on the Kia?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Yes.

We bought our Legacy at Fitzgerald Subaru. Totally painless. I highly recommend them. The prices are for real, just add the $99 processing fee, and they even tell you that up front.

Ironically, DARCARS 355 Toyota had a lower e-quote for the Sienna, so we bought our Sienna there. I called in advance and said I wanted no surprises, in fact I asked for an out-the-door amount and got a cashier's check for that exact amount.

No games, that was my rule. Fitz' price at the time was $200 higher so I was ready to walk the minute any tiny little fee popped. But they honored the price.

The purchase experience was OK, to be honest Fitz was a little better. They were quicker and spent more time on PDI, plus the car was delivered with fewer defects (all minor, but little things count).

For the same price, I'd pick Fitz over DARCARS. But I did save a couple hundred so I have no regrets.

According to Toyota cust service as of today, latest line is "sometime late summer/early fall". Does anybody know of any substantive changes in 2008 Sienna?

I am trying to buy a Sienna LE 8-passenger
Package #3, with leather upgrade and floor mats
    My dealer offered me $27400 + TT&L
They are claiming this is invoice...Long story, but they sold the vehicle we were going to look at. We left and they called us to come back. I told them I was at another dealer.

They said they will sale for their price. My other dealer is trying to beat this but the Sienna LE 8-passenger, Pk 3, w/leather is very hard to find right now in Louisiana.

Do you think this is a good deal. I got the consumer report and their bottomline is $25900 (to start negotiating)

Has anyone bought this van for cheaper? I see some 26K's in here but none mention the leather upgrade?

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the feedback. Are you an MD resident? In addition to the concern about an unknown dealership, I wasn't too sure about dealing in MD but doing the registration in NJ.
  • greenjdcgreenjdc Member Posts: 25
I've been looking in the MD/DC area. Best offer I've gotten is 28,900. I asked if he could another color and he laughed and said "not for that price." Anyone doing better in this area?

Yeah, MD resident. I actually live about 5 miles away from one of Fitz' locations.

The leather is aftermarket, and that's making the deal more confusing.

I got an LE8-3 with floor mats and a first aid kit for $25,247, and prices are lower now because the rebate is greater. Read above, some people are getting $24,800 for LE-3s.

So a $27400 price means they're charging you $1600 for leather.

That's not too bad, I guess, but it's not a bargain either. They are definitely making a profit by being the middle man in that aftermarket leather deal.

How much does 3-row leather cost? Not sure. I've seen Katskins on 2 rows for $900. With heat, $1200. I can't imagine 3 rows would run a full $1600 if it's not heated (is it?).

Price seems juuuuust a tad high. If you have to finance the leather upgrade in the new car loan I guess it might be worth it.
  • greenjdcgreenjdc Member Posts: 25
I've bought cars from Fitz and the no haggle prices are usually firm. But I was told that they "don't negotiate" but they "will match other dealer's offers." So if you get something lower take it with you and give it a shot. Absolutely do not, however, take a car there for service (at least a Subaru). They are horrible.
  • robichauxcrobichauxc Member Posts: 3
I don't understand why the leather is aftermarket? they have that option "L4"; which is leather upgrade. they don't just add leather seats because the whole van comes leather trimmed unlike the regular LE's. they have tried to sell me on a regular LE 8-pgnr w/cloth and they would replace the cloth w/leather but i don't want that because the doors would still have the cloth on them.

i live in CA, any one know how much is it for taxes.

hunting for an XLE with package 5
  • siennamisiennami Member Posts: 116
Well, it doesn't matter any more, because guess what I drove home with today? 2007 CE, 7 Passenger. No bells or whistles. I ended up leasing it, which is probably a mistake, but it's done. How upside down I was in the Kia depended on which dealer you talked to, I guess. One dealer was looking at $15k as the trade-in, while the one I leased from went straight by KBB. I told him I had no money, which he didn't believe, but at the end, the car was offered at invoice. I'm still trying to find that number on my paperwork. I have a lifetime powertrain warranty with this vehicle, which is beginning to become a popular thing here in SC, not sure about other states. When I mentioned that I saw lower prices elsewhere, he claimed that he had relatives that traveled from MD to buy Avalons and Camrys from him because they were cheaper. Perhaps they are with taxes, I don't know. I'm not sure that I totally believe him there. I do believe him when he says that he sends a lot of his vehicles to my hometown. This is the second time I've bypassed the local dealership. I'll probably get my car serviced there for convenience, though. I'll be eating a lot of Ramen noodles, but I have the car I want. It fits in my garage without drama, it's a very comfortable ride. I don't like that it doesn't have tinted windows, but I can live with that.
I'm just dreading the drive back there tomorrow because I forgot to take the spare keys to that darned Kia and some other paperwork that they need!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I don't see that in my 07 brochure, but then again the brochure has many mistakes. For instance it says my package 3 doesn't have power seats, but I certainly do have them!

I didn't know of factory leather on any LE model, though.

Does anyone own one of those?
  • robichauxcrobichauxc Member Posts: 3
there is an upgrade option named "LE 8-psnr Leather" code L4
This is available in the gulf states. if you go to KBB you can add the option to your pricing.

the one i am ordering is coming with factory installed leather not after market.

i'll know for sure come July 31st.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Very interesting. I wonder if brochures reflect different regional options like that? Mine doesn't make any mention of leather on an LE.

I'm in the Mid Atlantic region.
  • greytautumngreytautumn Member Posts: 38
Southeast States are through a distributor- not directly from Toyota USA as it is here up North. That's why they also tend to pay more per car than other regions. Gotta pay that middleman.

In New England it's a similar deal with Subaru. There are numerous port installed options that are not factory, leather seats being an excellent example.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yep, we even refer to SoA and SoNE, the latter being a seperate entity.

Subaru of New England even created two limos! One Forester-based, and another Tribeca-based.

So you know that middleman is making money!
  • greytautumngreytautumn Member Posts: 38
I worked for SNE about 5 years ago. I used to go to the port often (Quonset Point, RI) to meet the monthly RORO. I hand delivered $30m once. Biggest check I've ever seen. They could not wire it because the bank for S0A was in the WTC! They kept begging us for cash.

It's where the Boch's made (and continue to make) their real money.
  • dbtdbt Member Posts: 298
How are you liking the Jensen DVD? CC has the same sale on right now (free installation, $900).
  • greytautumngreytautumn Member Posts: 38
Dunno if we can mention dealer names, so I won't, but they are in Brockton, MA.

$30339 for an XLE FWD with package #4 in silver shadow pearl

Amazingly easy experience with the internet sales people. They gave me the best price over the phone/email, I just went in to test drive and finish the deal. I'm doing the 1.9 for 48 mos too. No hidden fees- just the doc fee and the taxes/tags.

I'd buy there again, as would my father in law who was there with me. my wife was home with our new baby.

In the market for a new Toyota? BEWARE of Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, Maryland. Recently I had a horrendous experience there. The long and the short of it is that they jerked me around on my trade-in by outright lying about its condition. And it wasn’t a “minor” lie that they tried to propagate. All of this was done to lowball my trade, I am sure. Why they couldn’t come out and tell me they would only offer X for it, and leave it at that, I don’t know. No, they took it one step further and manufactured a lie, a lie which took me the better part of a day to resolve, and in the process greatly upsetting my wife and I.
These people are scum for doing that. I just wanted you to know.
Avoid Jim Coleman Toyota of Bethesda, Maryland.

Could you please provide details of your price for the XLE model and dealer details? Do you have any XLE package on top of the base model?

    thanks

    Love it so far.

The kids watched a movie on the way to the beach, another coming back. No more "are we there yet?".

My 4 year old finds the headphones uncomfortable on long trips, but the Jensen has a wired head-phone plug in the back, so I may get him an in-ear headphone. He's fussy, though. My daughter doesn't complain even after 2 movies.

Headphones also seem to have a little less static than the FM reception. Both are acceptable, though. Plus now that I found out it has a headphone plug, that opens up options. I probably will get a 3rd headphone (in-ear, for my son) because my wife some times watches movies with the kids.

    We're happy, basically.
  • caravan2caravan2 Member Posts: 198
I suppose the wired head set could be wired to next to seats, specially the 3rd row seats.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I would probably get a splitter and go wired for the 2nd row, and then wireless for the 3rd row.

Actually, if we had that many people in the car I'd probably just play the sound over the FM stereo.

Just make sure you pick a musical if you do that. We watched Sounds of Music and High School Musical in that manner.

I see TMV as the average price that people are paying.

Hi mlabq --- excellent analysis. You have assumed TMV is the "median" price rather than "mean" price. Does the analysis still stand in view of this? I'm not too strong on curve fitting to understand. :)

    (b)
I'm just entering the market for 7-seater in North California. I would like to bargain for final price. I can find destination charges from edmunds, Taxes for CA - 8.25% I guess, and can look up the Vehicle Licensing Fees from DMV website. Any other taxes I should be aware of. Any suggestions on whether I should bargain for a price ($25000, eg) or bargain for price relative to invoice (invoice - 500). I'm tending towards the former.

    (c) Anybody used fighting chance rather than consumer reports to figure out what the initial quote should be?

    (d) There have been several posts on the forum about dealers ADDING holdback to the price in addition to the invoice price. Nobody seems to have reached a resolution on this issue. My impression was that it is something included in the invoice price that you as the buyer can try to cut into rather than add to the invoice.

Thanks - reading this forum has been pretty educational and encouraging. Wish there were something like fitzmall for the West Coast.

I picked up an XLE with Package 6 (Nav, RES +) in MD this weekend. I think I got a pretty decent price. MSRP was $39,595. I got it for $33,123. Only other charges were $20 for temp plates and $129 for all season mats(a bit overpriced) I am registering it myself in NJ so still have to pay tax and tags.

I got it in Nautical Blue. Very happy so far. Hopefully DMV will not be too painful.

I went to Fitzmall and used 355.com as a price match. Fitzmall had the color I wanted but 355.com was about $400 cheaper for a color I didn't want. Fitzmall matched. It took much longer than I expected to get out of there but overall the experience was good. Will report back once the plates, MSO and taxes get settled.

Just bought a 07 Sienna CE with package #1 and floor mats for $21,888 + ttl in Texas.

I am considering the extended warranty and wanting to know if anyone has experience buying one from the dealer and typical pricing. Is it better to buy from the dealer or are the 3rd party warranties a good option?

    Thanks in advance.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Congrats. I didn't see anything under $22k back in May, so that sounds like a good price to me.
  • siennamisiennami Member Posts: 116
    Wow!
It sounds like you got a great deal. I didn't even get the mats as part of the package on my CE. I do have a lifetime warranty on the powertrain, so perhaps that's not too bad. I got a 5-year warranty on everything else. Lifetime warranties are getting to be a pretty popular thing here in South Carolina (in my area, at least!)

Congratulations! I really like my CE..... :D
  • caravan2caravan2 Member Posts: 198
If you ask for the dealer to show you printed copy of "dealer inventory report" for the vehicle. When I was looking for Sienna, after I get the quote, I would ask them send me the "dealer inventory report". Most would send me everything on it but some would wipe out the invoice prices.

There are two things obvious dealer profit, 1) Dealer hold back 2) Wholesale financial reserve. This comes to about $800 which dealer gets back.

On top of it, dealers get "coupons" from Toyota once in a while to clear the inventory that would also lower the price.

If you get finance through them, they make money on that also.

Other advantage of asking for "dealer inventory report" is that, you have the vin # and all the options on the vehicle. I found a number of times they quoted me with wrong options and the color they claimed they had was wrong.

FYI... MSRP on LE option #3 with carpets and sill protector is: $29334 and invoice price including dest./holdback etc. is: $26580 per "dealer inventory report".

When someone would quote me price, I would compare the MSRP to make sure it has the right package and dealer does not add anything to it.

I know this note got a little longer that I intended... but thought this might be useful to someone.

    Good luck!
  • greytautumngreytautumn Member Posts: 38
    Knowledge is power

My Sienna (picking it up tonight) was on the lot for less than 24 hours when I bought it. My price is well into the holdback, and I'm financing 10k with TMC- the total interest on the life of the loan is $400!
  • tx_icetx_ice Member Posts: 22
To add to the point about playing dealers off each other, consider playing a smaller dealer off a larger dealer. Go to the smaller dealership and tell them you are going to the larger dealer next if they can't meet your price. This works even better if the larger dealer has an advertised special.

Smaller dealers may not have the vehicle in stock, but they can likely get one or see what is in transit. When you buy before it hits their lot, the profit from holdback, wholesale finance reserve, etc. are now in play. The more days a vehicle sits on the lot the less likely the dealer will want to part with his holdback, etc.

Another tool for those having to deal with Gulf States or other distributors is to negotiate on a car that has just arrived at the distributor. You can request that the add-ons be left off and avoid paying for unnecessary, profit-enhancing features. Just ask for what is in the pipeline and they can tell what vehicle, the options and the scheduled add-ons.

I just purchased a Sienna CE 8pssgr with pkg#1 and floor mats for $200 over dealer cost (i.e., invoice - holdback - wholesale finance reserve) using the above approach.

    Good luck all!
  • tx_icetx_ice Member Posts: 22
Yes, avoid Champion Toyota Gulf Freeway, especially the Internet Dept. I am not sure if you dealt with the same saleman that I did, but I had a terrible experience.

Good luck to all those still shopping.

    Hi,

I am on the market for 07 Sienna CE as well. I only got price quot of 22.8K here at Dallas.

Can you please let me know the dealer name ( contact name and phones ) ? My email id is ammrafi@hotmail.com.

    Thanks
  • mlabqmlabq Member Posts: 24
    Thanks 7seatershopper.

My analysis was not looking at the median. It was treating the TMV as the average. I think that it is probably the average price paid. Half buy under and half buy over.

What kind of Sienna are you looking for? I'm looking for an 8 passenger CE with Package 1.

If you are in Northern California, I'll tell you what to do. Do the same thing I'm doing. If you want a CE, go to Southern California to get one. I am going to be getting one for $19988. Every week, several dealers come out with adds that say they are selling CE's with package 1 for $19988. That is about the best price you could possibly get. My analysis says that less than 1% of buyers get a price that good.

I got fighting chance, but I ended up not usig it because the California price is just so low. I tried to get local Albuquerque dealers to match the CA price. None returned my phone calls. They just totally blew me off. Only one was decent enough to call me back, Beaver Toyota, but they wouldn't even come close to matching it.
  • mlabqmlabq Member Posts: 24
I tried this in Albuquerque. I brought a Southern California price to them and none of them returned my phone calls. It took two tries to get one to return my call. Their response was that they couldn't even come close. They said the other dealer was too big and "giving" away cars. It was kind of weird though. When I told her that she was quoting me an LE and I wanted a CE, she quoted me the same exact price for the CE with package 1. Even though the difference in invoice is almost $1000. I was very surprised. I expected more from the dealer. I will probably call again as the month closes.

THIS IS THE BEST TIME TO BUY A CAR. Next MONDAY and TUESDAY will be the best times to get the best deals because those salespeople will be hungry to make the numbers and Monday and Tuesday ARE DEAD!!! We went to test drive cars last Monday and the Toyota and Honda dealers were totally dead.

Just brought a LE with Package 3 with CF (Carpet Floor Protector). Broke down as follows:
    26,422 - Price
-800 (trade in - 3 other dealers offered 500 only - it was a mess of a car, with a huge dent in it and 150,000 miles)
    1794 - Tax
295 - Dealer fees, TTL etc.
    -1500 - rebate
    26,210 - OTD price
Not the best on the board - but was OK, and drove it home 2 hrs after entering the dealership. Took some back and forth, not too crazy and salesman was decent enough. The trade in actually caught me eye, there was no way I could have got $800 for the car anywhere else. So felt good about getting an extra $300 for that. Good luck to everyone else !

    Hi
I am in Ohio and looking for the Ex-L. Is that listed on your report as far as the dealer invoice? What was included in the 33123, if I may ask.

    Thanks,

    Hi ,
I'm looking for an Ex-L with package 4. I keep hearing that they are sold in my region. How many dealers have you asked for the dealer inventory report that supplied it?
Amy suggestions on a good price for the 07 with Pkg4?

    Thanks,

    Bob
