Did you ever resolve your slow remote control response? Just wondering if you tried a new battery and if that did anything.

What is GM doing about those cheap liftgate straps. Ours snapped yesterday with very little effort - likely due to the heat making it more elastic than it already was.
I can fix it myself but with all the nickle and dime items that have been driving us all nuts about these vehicles, I'm requesting my dealer make things right.

Thanks to all who gave information about possible causes. The dealer traced it to the dashboard switch needing to be replaced (last time it was the switch on the transfer case itself he claimed). There is a TSB for this and a re-designed part to fix it.

Would anyone please explain what is TSB?
    Thanks.

Funny - since I put that in writing, it's been fine! If it slows, I will try the battery and post the results. Thanks-

Also applies to Envoy and Bravada, plus you can get another $750 if you are in a gm lease.

TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin. Paisan, no of course they don't know that I am out here. They tell us to use our internet connection for "business use only", and I feel that it is in the scope of my job to know what irks customers. After all, our ISO 9000 Byword is "Quality Creates Customer Enthusiasm"!!! What better way to improve quality than to listen to what makes customers mad? As far as parts go, I really couldn't comment on SPO (Service Parts Organization) practices and policies. I had a buddy who worked there for a number of years, and he transferred over to Body Engineering because he felt so exasperated over some of their procedures, of course that was 5 or so years ago. My experience has been with SPO that they generally get the word LAST from the engineering community, and then have to play catch-up with the actual parts. I know that years ago, we used to send rejected parts from the line to SPO to sell to the dealers, but my then boss and I put a stop to that by making upper management aware of the procedure. That hasn't happened in some time (10+ years). Nowadays, we scrap out ALL parts if they don't meet specification.

I see. It's a shame that you can't get "credit" for working here. You might want to contact patti over in the subaru owners area she works for SOA and is actually sanctioned to be on here. Since GM owns 20% of SOA could be something that GM would like to get involved in to create better customer relations as you have already started to do.

Since the remote lock problem happens occasoinally, I have focused my attention on the wind noise. The dealer said they would fix the loose baffles on the front quarter pannels and since the have to remove the wheelwells to get to the baffles, they would also install the aftermarket mud flaps under warranty. I'm very lucky because the dealer is actually a Buick dealer but the body shop guy and his assistant own new TrailBlazers (he has already had his rearend axle replaced with less than 2000 miles so he sympathizes with me) and I keep them up to date on all the latest problems. I am installing the closed cell foam in the A-pillar seals myself. When my finger gets sore from hitting the unlock button on the remote, I'll go try a new battery.
  • tblazedtblazed Member Posts: 945
I was able to re-glue mine myself without disassembling anything. I just reached up into that area from the bottom, applied some 3M weatherstrip adhesive, used several pieces of paper towel roll cut to size necessary to wedge in and hold the "baffles" in place while the glue dried and that was it. Took me about 30 min to do both sides. The factory adhesive they used reminded me of pre-chewed chewing gum! Originally I could push the "baffles" back in place but that factory gooey adhesive stuff would let go shortly after. A friends newer TB built about 3 months after mine does not have this problem - "baffles" firmly affixed in place - so they must have re-spec'd the adhesive ( or ran out of pre-chewed gum!)

Of course what they don't tell you is that the base price on a TB LS has gone up over $900 since January when I bought mine during the $2002 cach back campaign.

Just to report that the float itself was not stuck, but after leaving a slow trickle charge on the battery for a day and then going out and making like a NASCAR driver heating up his tires whipping the steering wheel back and forth to mix up the electrolyte in the battery, the eye is now staying green! I got as far as removing 2 push fasteners, a screw, a nut and two bolts in an effort to remove that battery box, only to find that the cables have to be disconnected from the battery to get that box off just to loosen the battery holder clamp. I stopped there. Heck you can't even get to the battery to see the date code without all this disassembly and disconnecting the battery. Nice idea though having a ventillated battery enclosure.

Lund makes a rear window air deflector. Here is a link for a visual.

The Lund part # is LUN 38033. They have it priced at $79.99. You might want to look around for a better price.

tidester: response to third person comment. I intended to address the entire board, not try to start a flaming contest. If my method was improper, sorry, I'm not a college boy and therefore not learned very good.

steve: thanks for the tip! I didn't know about the TSB summaries here and I've been around for about a year! Information is brief and they are not all there, but much better than nothing. Ran my Acura and found a TSB that applied that has been bothering me so I will now bring up the concern at next service.

Also ran paisan's trooper for fun. Potentially serious recall and a number of TSB's there. Fewer than my Acura though. Have to try a couple of those highly acclaimed Toyotas next. :)

FedEx delivered my Lund bug deflector yesterday, so I installed it right away. I won't recommend this particular model for the TB. It installs in about 5 minutes with 4 metal inserts (instead of the usual plastic) and sheet metal screws. It fits fine and looks fine, but it is nowhere near a good tight fit. The tabs that hold the deflector to the hood are about 2 inches long and the screw holes are in the last 1/2 inch. All of the weight from the deflector just bows the tabs and makes for a real flimsy install. I'm afraid that the tabs will break when I shut the hood. I'm going to look at it again this evening to see if I might have done something wrong, but I don't think so. The install if pretty idiot proof. I'm also going to look for a way to sturdy it up. If I can't get it to stop flopping around without having to drill additional holes, I'm going to send it back to Lund. Have already emailed their customer service.

It has been 1 full year as of today with my 2002 Majestic Red LT TB. I have had a few minor problems with my TB but overall I am very happy with my vehicle and do not regret buying this fine SUV.

I have not had any of the "normal" problems I have read about on this board...the wandering mirrors, chipping paint, ect.

The problems I did have was with the power stearing. It started leaking fluid after 15k. Took it in for repair and they replace the rack and pinion..no troubles since. The dealership was awesome and took care of me.

Here is a list of problems concerns I had/have with my 2002 TB.
    * One time, while traveling on dry roads at 70 MPH, my 4WD selector was on 2W high
but the truck "jumped" and I noticed the 4W High light was lit and the 4W Low light was blinking. The selector was set on 2W High! I hadn't used 4 wheel in over a month
so this was a freaky thing but it only did it once. No trouble since.
    * Almost daily, when traveling between 30-50MPH, I get a "whistle" from somewhere
around the drivers side rear view mirror. Not sure exactly where it is coming from but
it can be heard even with the driver window up. It is quite loud!
    * The double rear seat behind the drivers seat is only latched on one side. It has not
been a problem and the dealer says it's not a problem but it doesn't seem right. I'm
sure if everyone lifts this seat up and looks at the "latch" that holds it in place, you
will find it only latches on one side.
    * The fender wells in the the front are loose. Not sure if this a design flaw or a defect.
The dealer says it's normal....I'm not convinced one way or the other...it just does not
    seem right to me.
    * The front seats are both missing a cover on the inside bolts. I only notice it when I vacuum and the dealer again says that it is normal. Looks ugly to me. There are
covers over the outside bolts but the inside are missing.

Now for the good things about my 2002 LT TB.
    * POWER! I can pass anything going uphill. I can accelerate (quite rapidly) when getting
on the freeway. This engine kicks serious butt!
    * Gas Milage. I have never reset the DIC since I took ownership. My overall mileage is showing 19.2 MPG. For an SUV with this much power, I am impressed with the fuel economy.
    * Stereo. This Bose 6 disc changer ROCKS! I love the sound system. No need to upgrade. I am also a musician and I can appreciate the full sound that eminates from
    my TB.
    * 4 wheeelin! I took my TB into the mountains during a huge blizzard. While other SUV's were sliding around and getting stuck, I drove where ever I wanted and I wasn't even
chained up. The stock tires and wheel bit into the deep snow even though I was plowing with my front end and "skating" with the runningboards. I have driven many
4WD's in these conditions but the TB takes the prize.
    * Quiet/smooth ride. This SUV is so smooth and quiet. I rode in a 2002 Ford Explorer and there was no comparison. The TB is solid, tight and smooth.
    * Looks. I get compliments all the time from total strangers. "Nice truck" is something I am sure alot of TB hear quite often.
    * Reliability. Everytime I turn the key, It starts. I have no fear taking my TB on long trips.
I am confident it will get me wherever I want to go, in any conditions, and with STYLE!
I have 27k on my TB in one year. I LOVE DRIVING THIS THING! As you can tell by my mileage, I never pass up a chance to take it ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE!

Overall, I am VERY happy with my TB. Best vehicle I have ever owned. 3 other people that have ridden in my TB have all bought one. BTW, these 3 people were owners of Ford Explorers and couldn't get rid of them fast enough once they rode in luxury!
Hope this helps anyone out that is contemplating getting one.

tblazed: Did you feel a considerable decrease in wind noise after re-gluing the “baffles”? In other words, was it worth re-gluing? It seems like my Envoy has lot more wind noise now compared to a couple of months ago and I noticed that the “baffles” are loose on the driver’s side.
  • jw4gmjw4gm Member Posts: 27
FWIW......My Envoy SLE Change Oil Light finally came on at 12,240 miles. For those of you who have yet to experience it, the light remains on for 20 or so seconds after starting the engine, then goes away until next engine start. It does not remain on while you drive. Needless to say, I do not depend on the light for oil change frequency. This is a terrific SUV. SD towing pkg, 410 axle, 6-CD changer, polished wheels, 18.5 overall MPG.

tblazed sent me some great pictures regarding the fix for the mirror whistle. Give your email address and tblazed or I will forward you the email that he sent to me. I didn't have the mirror whistle, I think my wind problem is the baffles and seals on the A-pillar.
  • tblazedtblazed Member Posts: 945
Yes I did notice much less of the direct wind noise at 50-70+ MPH in a head or cross wind like there was an air leak around the door hinge or a-pillar area. Noticably more muffled now what I would consider normal wind turbulance noise compared to the air leaking (sharper sounding, more direct) noise that was there before. Worth the $3 tube of 3M glue and 30 min of time to do it.

I also added some closed-cell foam pieces (1/2 X 3/8 X 3" long or so bought from Home Depot) to fill in the hollow half-round weatherstrip that runs down the sides of the windshield pillar to the top corners of the ft fenders that the doors close against. That eliminated more noise too . And I fixed my whistling drivers side rear view mirror too. Now my TB is certainly one of the quietest vehicles I have been in.

Recently rode in a friends new VW bug (after they got it back from having the ABS brake system fixed for some critical safety related recall that was so hazardous the dealer would not allow their VW to be driven until the parts came in and it was repaired) - man, you talk about rattles, vibration, and noise! I guess that's half the fun of a "bug"!

I agree... I was one of the first people to epoxy the baffles, and it made a noticeable improvement! My bravada is undoubtedly the quietest vehicle I've ever ridden in now!

It is not "normal". but is very common, however. If you look at several on the lot, you may find some vehicles that have the covers. This has been a thread on here 2-3 months ago, and the poster convinced the dealer to get him some covers for those inner seat brackets. (My Envoy has all the covers.) Since the Edmunds forums are impossible to search for a particular posting, maybe that person will see this and give you some supportive evidence. If I recall correctly, he may have even come up with the part number. Good luck!

I have had my TB LS for 5 months. Mine was recalled for the fuel filter and I recently took it to the dealer for the first time. Love Chevrolet in Columbia, SC, was an excellent experience.

While in for the recall, I asked them to address the license plate panel scratching the paint on the rear hatch. They have ordered the part and I'll have to take it back. They made no issue out of repairing. The other local Chevy dealer did (guess who I'll be doing business with?). I also had a slow leak in the right rear tire. No nail, so they broke the tire down, replaced the valve stem, and remounted the tire. No charge.

I also had a rattle I couldn't find; it sounded like it was coming from the exhaust. The technician tracked it down to the transmission dipstick rattling in the tube. He rotated the dip stick and the rattle is much improved, but not completely gone. They say there isn't a fix yet, but I'll give them an A+ for finding that one and doing what they could.

Otherwise I have no problems worth a complaint. I do notice the belt squeel when the car shifts at high RPMs. I plan to watch it a while. I also hear a slight engine knock at initial start up when the engine is cold. It goes away quickly. I also notice that the remote doesn't always work, usually when I am beside the car at the B-Pillar area. But I just push the button again and up go the locks.

Three oil changes so far; 11,000 miles. The oil life monitor is still dark.

Driving it to Yellowstone on a two-week roadtrip starting this weekend. Anticipate 5,000 miles. Two adults, two children. I'll report when I get back.

5000 miles on my LTZ TB and now the fan problem sets in. Of course it's 100 degrees here the last few days so I'm sure thats the culprit. Anyone on the fix??
  • bobed2121bobed2121 Member Posts: 70
I have seen two of them now. They have a small Z71 emblem next to the Trailblazer emblem on the back. So whats the difference?
  • bakednutbakednut Member Posts: 17
Hello, I'm brand spankin new to this message board and I have found lots of redundant information. BUT valuable to say the least. ESPECIALLY to tlauro. HATS OFF to the website! ANYWAY, the Z71 package if im not mistaken is the addition of larger wheels, different shocks, Hi-capacity air filter, tubular side bars, skid plates and a locking diff.. ALL of these things can be in one way or the other added to the TB to make a faux "TrailBlazer Z71 " package. The LTZ has the larger Rims. The Bilstien shocks that the truck is already equipped with cant get more refined. Just add a K&N Filter Charger. True "off-roaders" will know that unless the Truck is high enough side bars are a no-no, but u can always bolt on ANY one of the side bars that VARIOUS companies put out. The skid plates and locking diff can be added at a nominal fee. So i'm gunna hafta say that any TB's with the Z71 badge on is was just someone tryin to "spruce up" their ride a bit. Which is fine as long as they have all that stuff. Wuts the difference? If they got it, FLAUNT it. I'm ALWAYS glad to see other TB's out there. I just like looking at my Truck from a diffent angle~ hehehe!

I got my LT TB in august. And it has been a REALLY great experience thus far. I've done the recall fixes here and there, but im glad they had everything worked out. I havent had too many prblems with wind noise or glass POPPING. I am a happy solider for the General. Only reason i dont recommend to my friends, is because i wanna be the only one with a TB. But that isnt realistic. =P

As for Mods, I've wrapped my truck with Manik bars ALL around. Got my front windows tinted to match the backs. K&N air filter with the filter housing off so it can breathe a lil easier. I personally like having the crossbars on the top on(i hear a LOT of people take them off to reduce wind noise, but i dont notice this or have this problem), i have my yakima snowboard rack up there and i think it looks GOOOD (likes to collect lots of bug splats tho), but i find it functional to carry around my fishing rods when i go fishing. I just put in my new alarm with remote start(viper 550ESP, LOTS of fun to play with) and Piaa 520 Fogs for my Front Bar. VentVisors, WeatherTech FloorMats and GM Bug Sheild. Billet Bow Tie and Billet Grille for the front on the way as we speak. Considering getting reverse light Kit and Quad Beam Conversions for the Headlights.

I am also considering bolting on an aftermarket muffler, done with the proper equip. i read that there is an UNTAPPED 25 additional horses one can free, as the stock exhaust step up is rather restrictive. Lastly, I stumbled upon an Eibach ProKit that will drop the truck and improve handling but this will cost me the luxury of using what the truck was originally MEANT to do. Take me places my CAR or BIKE CANT get me. But i think i wanna KEEP the Profile as is. I mean i still wanna do SOME lite off-roading.

Personally, I bought the Auto Vent Shade Bug Flector II from a local auto parts store and I must say that the overall quality and fit of this unit is top notch!

I installed the unit when I first purchased my Envoy back in November 2001. I removed the bug shield about 2 months ago so that I could wax my vehicle. A quick call to Auto Vent Shade quickly landed me some new hardware mounting material (double sided tape for edges, new plastic washers, plastic anchors and metal screws) ALL FOR FREE! I was quite impressed because there I sat with my credit card in hand, ready to pay for new hardware since I had removed the unit and they offered me the "stuff" for free.

I re-installed the unit on my vehicle last night and it only took ~ 5 minutes and the fit is veryyyy good! The double-sided tape holds the edges in place while the other 4 screws use a unique washer/anchor mounting system utilizing the 4 holes located on the underside of the hood. This eliminates any drilling and seems to make the unit quite sturdy as well.

I have recommended this bug shield to several others who absolutely love it as well. I think that you can locate the Auto Vent Shade at virtually any auto parts store for ~ $30 - $40.

    Good Luck!

Took the Lund off when I got home yesterday and placed 4, one inch strips of 3M double sided tape between the front edge of the tabs and the underside of the hood and voila, no more flopping around. Nice and tight now. The reason I purchased the Lund (besides having one on my pickup), is that they stand off from the hood enough to get your hand behind it for washing and waxing.

I'm satisfied for now. Will have to wait and see if the tape solution holds up. If not, I'll check into the Auto Vent Shade.

    Thanx!

I posted this some months ago.

I did have a few conversations with the dealer about the missing covers. The most recent visit they told me that there was no part number for the inner bracket covers so I walked the service manager over to some brand new TBs and showed him all the covers in place. He then had to order them for me. Sorry, there was no part number on the paperwork they gave me. They can't tell you it's "normal" not to have them when brand new TB's/Envoy's are being produced with the covers. BTW All the seat bracket covers are interchangeable.

Any one living Jersey side will tell you the TURNPIKE is NOTORIUS for bug splats. ALL OVER the place. I HATE driving down turnpike after i wash my car, and REFUSE to do it. But i noticed that after i installed my bug sheild i had a considerable less amount for bug intestants. This wont stop ALL the bugs from hitting, but it seems to keep the windsheild FAIRLY bug free. BUT that doesnt mean ur grille or BUMPER is safe.

Had to go out and look at what I did a few months ago to refresh my memory. Actual size of that closed-cell foam (bought from Home Depot) I used is 3/4 X 3/16" and about 5" long with about 1" folded over on itself to fill in that half-round hollow piece of the weatherstrip that fits under the corner of the top of the front fender. That keeps air from blowing into that hollow weather seal. And a few more smaller pieces of the same stuff cut to fit to help keep air out where the door closes against the A-pillar at the top corner of the fender. A little hard to describe in words. Just improvise!

I remember on my old '68 GTO, '70 and '71 Chevelles I used to have that corner piece of the weather seal was a solid dense foam rubber.

My 2002 Bravada purchase in August of 2001 with 14,000 miles has now died on the road three times. Two times occurred while traveling at 70 mph on a busy multi lane highway. The Bravada has been into the dealership after the first two times with no fix. It is no longer safe in my opinion to drive. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to proceed from here. Wisconsin lemon law does not appear to apply (requires 4 events in first 12,000 miles). Olds is supposed to have a zone manager get back to me but I have little confedence in Olds doing anything. This Bravada has had a significant number of problems and is a complete disappointment.
  • blrmkrblrmkr Member Posts: 40
concerned3: Have you been able to drive after a key-off, key-on sequence when you Bravada dies on the interstate? My TB stalled once at a stoplight. I haven't had a problem since I switched to Mobil 87 OCT from Speedway 87 OCT. Hopefully it is okay to blame a brand of gas.

I have heard that the load-leveling suspension of the Bravada and some Envoys can send electronic pulses to the PCM causing a loss of throttle. I think there is a TSB for this.

I have had bad experiences with the load-leveling feature of a '90 Chevy APV so I stayed away from that feature when I purchased my Triplet. Repair can get pretty expensive after 3/36!

I have a 2002 Trailblazer LTZ for 1 year now, with 13,000 miles. When I make right turns, there is a clicking noise from under the car. Brought to the dealer several times with no luck for a cure. Need help! Has anyone else had this problem?

I have a 2002 TB and have problems with wind noise at highway speeds. I read that "fixing the air leak around the door hinge or a-pillar" resolved the problem. Does anyone have pictures of the loose baffles? I don't understand exactly what are we talking about.
  • pepper50pepper50 Member Posts: 195
I agree that the bugshield decreases the number of bugs hitting the winsdshield, but not eliminating. But their main advantage to me is markedly reducing the number of bugs that hit the hood, as well as reducing small rock chips on the hood, especially the front half. I have an old Chrysler that has a bugshield, and it's hood is in great shape. My Pontiac Grand Am that has no bugshield has rock chips all over the front 1/3 of the hood. So I consider the bugshields more of hood protection than windshield protection.
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Pepper50 I agree, had a bug guard on my Rodeo and it saved my windshield and hood from stones and rocks on a few occassions, breaking the fall of them.

dshepherd3: Not so much bugs as stones. Had a stone crack my windshield the second week I owned my truck. When they were installing my new windshield the tech said if I had a deflector this wouldn't have happened. Had one installed the next day and never had a problem after that.

Hi all--I'm new to the forum; I've browsed through quite a bit and found some useful info. What I was unable to find is any postings on the biggest problem I (or at least my wife) has had with the seatbelt locking for no reason and then not unlocking.

This seems to happen at random times; the car can be in motion or stopped, I can be braking or just cruising along the highway. She will be sitting there, and then all of a sudden she is trapped against the seat by the belt; the only way she can release it is to unbuckle it, fully retract it, and then buckle it again.

This has happened to her and my mother, primarily in the front passenger seat, although it has happened in the back seat too (and the back seat is used much less than the front). I am always the one driving, and I have never had this happen to me in the driver's seat. We had also rented an Envoy before buying, and she experienced the same thing.

I took it to the dealer and complained about it. They had to order a new seatbelt assembly and replace it. I'm fairly confident they did the work, because I noticed that the leather on the side of the seat was slightly different than before. However, she still has the same problem with the same frequency.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, have you had any luck figuring out what the cause is and a way to prevent/fix it? Thanks!
  • 2002slt2002slt Member Posts: 228
    Wes,

I've seen this complaint before, so I decided to look in my manual for its cause. As we've noticed, all manuals are not created equal. Mine has a date of 6/1/01. On page 1-21, under "Right Front Passenger Position", it states the following: If you ever pull the shoulder portion of the belt all the way, you will engage the child restraint locking feature.
I hope this helps you to troubleshoot your issue.

I thought we were getting a new search engine?? I enter the word "baffle" (lot of discussion about baffles in the GMC Envoy board) and guess what: NO HITS pertaining to the GM

Does the search engine work or not?

The baffles everyone is referring to are the ones you can see through the driver/passenger door hinge, where it meets the front quarter panel when the door is opened. Look in that space and you will see a baffle in each, most likely just hanging there! They have 2 clips, one at the top and bottom, but also have a sticky substance that resembles a sorry excuse for glue.
