Thanks for the NM tips. I have copied them out into a file for when the day comes. Wish I could leave tomorrow!

Saw Bandolier on our last trip. Very inspiring.

Absolutely, Taos Ski Valley was great. The runs are so much longer than what we get in East Coast skiing, there is no comparison. I do recall gasping for breath in that thin air, however. You gotta get used to that altitude!

Well, here is a not-so-good photo of our new Legacy next to Sandy. Washed them both and took this quick pic:

Now I need an SVX to replace the Miata.

But I really want a ragtop in the fleet. I hope and pray that Subaru does a new rendition of the SVX, and then makes a roadster. That would be my next new car!

I can wait, just get it here by 2005.

I'd be all over it! Please Subaru!

I tell ya, short of a Blitzen wagon, an L wagon is sure more and more appealing all the time to me in the interim.

If it were mine, I'd want alloys and window tinting. We'll see. I'm not gonna spend anything until I secure a new position.

What with my WRX upgrade, I have 4 fairly rare Turbo Legacy 15" wheels sitting around. My thought was that they might be appealing to you because your 15" tires are brand new (might as well use them up) and I would let you have these wheels for next to nothing. If you have any interest, I can send you high res pictures of all their blemishes (aren't many).

If I decide to shop, that would be a possibility. Right now I want to land that job offer first.

Do you know the offset? Is it a 5 bolt 10mm pattern? Heck, e-mail me a photo just for the heck of it.

Except I'm not sure of the brakes though.

    -mike
  • jimmyp1jimmyp1 Member Posts: 640
I have to believe that my turbo front brakes are as substantial as the "L" brakes, but we can compare owner's manual specs if we want to go any further.

Nice car(s). Nice color. Did the Forester get upset it wasn't first in the driveway? Or, is this indicative of the wife coming first? ;)

    Greg
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Well, the stockers are 15", remember it's an L. How wide are those? Probably 6" or 6.5".

The wheels look good, too, so if I get a job this week I might just work out a deal.

Greg: I actually washed Sandy first, backed her up, then washed the Legacy. So Sandy still comes first in my heart. :-)

What about the 2002 Legacy L? The brochure only says 15". I'll check them I guess.

You think they'll fit? I'd guess yes.

New in 1994, I believe. More of a 5 spoke. And they are 6" wide. Juice has a picture of them. Paisan has a picture of my car on his website. "Jim in Texas" or something like that, I think.

    Jim

Edit: I don't see it there anymore - Paisan, you crack me up with the "dissing" of the Ascender where you compare the Trooper to the Ascender, SUV vs SMV.

that is the funniest thing I saw today. A covertible wrx, talk about a car completely out of its context. LOL!!!

Make it 2 door and loose the wing and you might have something.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
We're on the same page, mike. Gimme a 2 door.

Actually, I just got the photo chop CD and will install it today and play with it.

Share that with the amateur redesign studio thread, see what people think.

grille and hoodscoop. Soon I will have the same installed but in silver, can't wait (well...obviously, I can, LOL).

Steve, hope you don't mind I stole that photo, but here is my photo-chopped version of the same car (2 door):

I made the door longer, removed the rear door, and removed the spoiler. Not bad for a rookie - I just installed PhotoShop today.

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Just needs to have a longer door, it still seems too short.

could you put the driver's seat back?
It looks incomplete and kinda mal-nourished in the rear. =D

    -Dave
  • artgeckoartgecko Member Posts: 78
I was just gonna shorten the wheelbase to make it a 2 door, but then it would have been a CabrioWRX Metro That was just a 5 minute hack job. I didn't take the time to extract the seats from the glare of the window.

Of course I could have left the windows up. That's how all the Z3 drivers are around here.

Here she is! Fresh back from the dealer last Friday after getting the security system, CD player and air filtration installed. They washed her for me, so I thought I'd snap a couple shots.

Boy, you sure do make a compelling case FOR the wintergreen color. I hadn't really taken a liking to it previously. Yours sure does look sharp!

Now all it needs is a spoiler and hood deflector. ;)

    -Brian
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
If I made the door longer, it would cut into the flare. I'm not that good at photo chop yet! ;-)

I did remove the rear wing. It was a little too "fast and furious" for me.

Cynthia: the right color, shiny tires, clean wheels. They even look waxed! I'm so proud of you! *sniff*

Wow. Congratulations. Makes me want to go wash, wax and vacuum, my car. Actually, that's my fathers day gift request - the time to clean both cars. Must satisfy OCD urge.

    Greg
  • cynthiagcynthiag Member Posts: 63
Well, I can't take any credit... the dealer's service department washed it, I dunno why, maybe because I waited while they did my alarm installation, maybe just because they wanted to make a good impression to a Subaru newbie, who knows. It DID make an impression, since the car had already achieved a nice coating of pollen dust! I have, however, been compulsively cleaning off bird droppings.

AFAIK, the wheels aren't waxed. Should they be? I know nothing about alloy wheels, but I would like to keep them looking nice!

What waxes are good? I used to wax my old car, but it's been ages, literally. I found a nearby coin-op wash where I can wash the car, don't know if they have a vacuum or not. There is also a touchless car wash place that will vacuum though they aren't all that cheap. Any advice on washing or where to go or not go for car washing appreciated! Can't wash it here, 'cause I rent a room and my landlord doesn't allow it.

I feel sort of compulsive about the new car, while it looks new, I like to keep it nice. The old car had gotten, so, well, old, that I didn't much bother, but I did when it was new.

A hood deflector is sort of tempting, but personally, I am not fond of spoilers, to me they always look like "added-on bits".

How do those hood deflectors install? Do they come off easy? I hate the look of car bras, but I wouldn't mind a bit of protection, having looked at the numerous chips in the Camry's hood.

I did order rubber floor mats for winter!

    I feel OCD coming on!

    Cynthia
  • nygregnygreg Member Posts: 1,936
The hood deflector is very easy to install. There are two holes underneath the hood that plastic plugs plug into. Two screws into these plugs hold the deflector on and are easy to remove for cleaning. In addition, the deflector has 5 or 6 rubber bumps to keep the deflector from touching the hood. On the hood below the rubber bumpers you place 1" or so plastic protectors to keep the rubber from damaging the paint. Also, many of us like to wax the wheels to keep them from corroding (mainly during winter months). As for wax, many here believe Klasse is great. Haven't tried it yet, but plan to.

    Greg
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Waxing the wheels also keeps ice from building up inside them, so you don't get wheels thrown off balance.

    -juice
  • cynthiagcynthiag Member Posts: 63
Thanks Greg, I may look into a deflector then!

I don't know that I have to worry so much about corrosion in winter months right now, because I'm in the Bay Area, CA... and it's not like we see ice often . And no road salt.

But if it keeps them pretty, I don't mind waxing the wheels too. I may need a kind of wax that is easy to buff though, have tendinitis in both arms, and they don't take kindly to buffing or similar chores.

However, it may be that my Subaru and I will end up in the cold at some point in the future. It's not for sure yet, but it may be that my boyfriend just landed his first official meteorology job in North Dakota. (Where there are apparently all of 2 Subaru dealerships in the entire state!) I guess if I end up there, I'll be worrying quite a bit about winter, ice, snow and the like!

    Cynthia
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
Take the good in everything Cynthia-- if you go to North Dakota you'll get to play in the snow with your Subaru... and homes will cost 1/3 to 1/5 what they do in the Bay Area.

As long as you're not making 1/3 what you were before, it's cool. :-D

    Gorgeous Subaru by the way.

He got the job! Of course, it might be a while before he dares pop the question. It's his first official job with the National Weather Service and he's out of practice, so he's nervous and I suspect will want to settle in a bit.

Still, if all goes well, I might indeed get to play in the snow in the Subaru! Just playing in snow would be fun, I was raised in southeast Texas, we didn't exactly see much snow there either!

Wasn't me on 80 I'm afraid, but I saw a new white Outback today on 580 and a dark green one at the grocery store.

I am getting the feeling I need to wash the car... she's getting that coating of pollen dust again. However, we might be getting a storm this weekend, so mother nature may do it for me this time. I better study the manual and figure out my windshield wipers!

(Don't laugh too hard, compared to the ancient Camry, this car is way more complex!)

Cynthia: Boy, is your boyfriend lucky. To be a meteorologist in North Dakota is about as good as it gets. He might have been posted to some godforsaken place like San Diego where the forecast is "perfect" 365 days out of 365. North Dakota, now, they have WEATHER! You're gonna appreciate AWD.

Visit Berkeley & Albany - the large percentage of Subies you'll see there borders on scarey!

I'm not laughing about the wiper comment....I was still discovering new things, and how to work them, 3 months after I started driving the roo!

I grew up in Montana & spent some time in N. Dakota - it's an amazing, gorgeous part of the country. (and a great place for kids to grow up....should that be in the equation....)

have a good toehold on subies.

for Berkeley/Albany Cal, it's the perfect car. Politically correct AWD, you probably DO actually spend some time in the mountains or on the beach, you've got that funky/cool/yuppie look as opposed to the snobby/cool/yuppie look, and only those who've done their research know how cool you really are ;-).

Cynthia: My sister lives in Marin - but is seriously contemplating moving back home within the next year - so much so, I went house hunting on her behalf yesterday. Soon as she gets back up here to the almost great white north, I'll try to talk her out of her MB ML & into a Subaru. Another snow-country transplant Subaru, perhaps?

    Cheers!

It's actually west. About 20 miles west of Sacandaga. My cousins live in Scotia, Niskuna, Colonie, Burn Hills. I'll be up there next weekend and auto-xing @ the State Office building in Albany on memorial day Sunday.

It's probably true that there are tons of Subarus there! I remember after I bought the Toyota Camry, I had occasion to go to a flea market in Albany and every other car was a Camry then. Now that I've bought a Subaru, it makes a sort of psychic sense that the area is full of Subarus!
