There are dozens of discussions here for general car buying tips.... Most members pull up this forum, because they are interested in what people are paying for Honda Odysseys..

    Please take other discussions elsewhere...

I submited a Zag request via overstock . com last evening for a 2011 EX but havent gotten any sort of automated emails or reply yet. Those with past experience, how long does it usually take to get something in email?
  • hitchens97hitchens97 Member Posts: 62
I'd say that is excellent on the 2011, and poor on the 2010.

I bought a 2010 EXL with RES/NAV for 32270 (including dest, excluding title license, doc, tax ) about 8 weeks ago.

Unfortunately my wife was badly rear ended and the car totalled last week  . Fortunately apart from some minor brusing and some neck and back pain she is fine (which I think is testament to Honda's safety).

So I'm back in the market - this time for a 2011 EXL with Nav in the SF Bay Area, as soon as we get a check from the insurance company. We just drove one at Hayward - btw - my wife thought it drove even better than the 2010.

Anyone also looking in the Bay Area? Inventory still seems thin, which I'm guessing means close to sticker. The Hayward price had $2700 of BS accessories tacked on.

Wow! That must have been some accident to total a nearly new Odyssey!

Glad to hear your wife is OK!

Installing a lot of expensive and unwanted accessories is done by some stores. There were stores in our area we wouldn't do dealer trades with because of this.

    Good Luck!

Be careful people of those sneaky dealers that like to add useless add-on dealer BS, like wheel-locks. This is only necessary if you are purchasing a $30K+ Honda Odyssey Mini-Van and you live in da Hood, and the crooks like to target the grocery getting rims on your mini-van. Go to Walmart or a autoparts store and put them on yourselves....save $100....have fun ;)

Seems decent at least. I checked around for 2010 and decided to go 2011. So far they are all MSRP. Did you get a quate for 2011 with the same configuration? Also can you share which dealer is this? Wondering if they have a decent quote for 2011 as well.
  • sellmorehondassellmorehondas Member Posts: 62
A very good example of what type of website not to give you information to. Site designer is in Cape Town South Africa. There is a Southwest Honda in Amarillo TX. Their website appears to be from DealerSkins. A US company. Sort of makes you wonder who SouthWestHonda really is. It all may be legit. But, buyer beware!

Also a new profile in Edmunds, with little information. You would think a legitimate dealer would have a fairly complete profile.

    BEWARE

Just got a 2011 Touring for 36,900 before taxes, doc fees. Dealer is pushing extended warranty through third party or Hondacare. Does anyone have any advice--is this warranty worth it? The only reason I am considering is that I am nervous about all the electronic components, etc.
    Thanks!
  • hitchens97hitchens97 Member Posts: 62
Congrats - that seems an outrageously good deal to me - does the 36900 include destination. Are you in one of those states with ridiculously large doc fees they use to pad margin.

And finally let us know the dealer. We should reward the dealers that discount!
  • hitchens97hitchens97 Member Posts: 62
oh as for the warranty - no don't buy at the dealer - plenty of honda dealers offer it online at discounts
  • heathernjheathernj Member Posts: 24
Wow, where did you get that price and does that include the destination fee? Congrats!
  • blueody2011blueody2011 Member Posts: 3
Thanks! I got it at Rick Case Honda in Cleveland, OH. The price did include the destination. Too bad taxes here in Cleveland stink (7.75%). 36,900+7.75%tax+$250 (state doc fee)=$40,064 OTD. It was the lowest internet price I got by a couple thousand dollars.

I'm not sure if that's ridiculously large doc fee (is it?). I just wished I lived in a lower sales tax county!
  • dodgehappydodgehappy Member Posts: 118
Thanks for the tip on this dealer. I am in Columbus so not too far away... I will see what kind of numbers they can provide on an EX.

Did you get the Celestial Blue Odyssey? If so, any chance you would be willing to email me some photos of your new baby? We were set on the topaz or black but now the wife says she may want the blue and I havent seen it yet. An exterior pick would be awesome.

Received emails from a dealership, willing to sell at $300 above invoice for 2011 EXLs. I've merely inquired about '10, and that's the opening price emailed to me for the '11.

I think invoice price is within reach.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
$250 is the standard doc fee in Ohio. Dealers think that because the law seemingly allows it that it is somehow required.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
You might try to get some quotes from stores in Dayton too. They had the best prices in the state when I bought my '10 in August.

At Honda of Ames (Iowa) I just bought an EX-L for 250 above invoice. (KBB has it at 31,985 for invoice with dest, but apparently with the HDAG charge of 150.00, it's 32.135.19.) I paid the extra 96.00 for splash guards and they threw in a cargo tray. They also have a 99.00 doc fee for a total of 32,580.00. It won't be in until November some time (I was holding out for Black with truffle interior.) They are great to work with, I did all my negotiating over email.

    blueody2011,

Can you give me the contact name and number to Rick Case Honda?
It seems like a pretty sleek deal to me.

Anyone getting any good deals in Northern NJ thus far? I have been in contact with many, and no one really wants to budge. One guy even said that it's a game of chicken, and that I should wait a bit because once one of them caves, they all will. I have the AMEX quote of $39,090 but I feel like I might be able to do better than that within the next few weeks. Any feedback from someone in the Northern NJ area would be great.
  • ramssaranramssaran Member Posts: 36
I doubt things will change within a couple of weeks. One of the dealer was saying that they will be getting only 3 Touring Elite's for the rest of the year and they are onl of the largest dealer's. The manager mentioned that 7 or 8 people are interested in that one van he has and he can not sell that for below the MSRP price. :)

I got an OTD price for 2011 EX-L without Navi/RES and 2010 Touring respectively.
I am here in Austin, TX.
Dealer said there will be no big difference for these models because there is not enough stocks. What do you think?
Please share your OTD price if you recently picked up these models.
  • ramssaranramssaran Member Posts: 36
    austin25,

What was the OTD price you got fot 2011 EX-L in Austin? Which dealer?
  • austin25austin25 Member Posts: 3
    $37,687 from RoundRock
  • ramssaranramssaran Member Posts: 36
thats too much. My friend bought a 2011 touring for $42000 OTD with $500 woth Accessories at San Marcus. You should be able to get the EX-L for $35500 OTD.

I think you should go to another dealership where there are enough 2011 stock, and skip the dealership giving you this excuse. It is a lame excuse, as we are early in the buying season and there are plenty of Odysseys coming out of the factory in AL. They can order 20 of them straight from the factory if you are willing to purchase.

I wouldn't negotiate using OTD prices, instead use the price + destination & dealer fees, but before TTL.

Otherwise, ask ahead of time what's the dealer documentation fees, and negotiate using the pre-doc fees price.

Piazza Honda of Philadelphia is offering $1,000 under MSRP via email (for each of the 7 trim levels) through the USAA car buying program. It's not NJ but relatively nearby. I'm still holding out for better pricing too.
  • 3under53under5 Member Posts: 15
BTW, you are not by chance the same Heather of Garden State Honda's Internet sales in North Jersey, are you?
  • twintouringtwintouring Member Posts: 6
In July we purchased a 2010 Touring Ody for $37000 OTD at Bill Page Honda of Northern, Va...no regrets/remorse on that decision. Good luck!

2011 EX-L RES got quote for 34,800 + TTL. Needs it to be 33,800 or less.

I bought 8 yr/100k Honda Care warranty from Hyannis Honda at about $1200 with zero deductible.
  • 3under53under5 Member Posts: 15
Oops... I actually was quoted "$1,000 over invoice" for a total of $33,330. After deducting $780 destination this leaves $345 unexplained. It still seems like a high price. I received the same price from Garden State Honda in NJ.

Bought new 2010 Honda Odyssey EX for $25,700. Had a trade in for 1700.

    Columbia, MO.

So I have to pay 24,000 + 7.5% sales tax.

Planning to buy all weather floor mats..Does anyone know where I can find cheaper & honda floor mats.

I was quote $34,500 (which includes destination) for 2011 EX-L with navigation. This price doesn't include any options/accessories.This + ~300 for documentation cost will make $34,800 roughly out of the door price (there is no sales tax where I am at). Is this a good price?

Has anybody tried using the COSTCO CAR BUYING PROGRAM? What is the typical price paid for a 2011 ODY EX-L (NAVI)? Is it a few hundred dollars over invoice?
  • hitchens97hitchens97 Member Posts: 62
    seems good to me.

I was wondering if going to Phili would be worth it, we are just outside of Morristown. And no, I am a customer and not car sales person. I did speak with Garden State Honda last night and got my best offer yet, she quoted $36,902 as the invoice (slightly off) and MSRP $41,755 (again, off but I figured I could deal with that later), her offer was "$500" above invoice so with destination of $780 and $500, the sales price is $38,182. I have an e-mail into her now because she is supposed to e-mail me lease payments, etc. to clarify the MSRP "misstatement" and see what she says. Their doc fee is high at $299. The woman told me that getting a Touring in Smokey Topaz was no problem, that they have them in stock....and told me that they'd absorb the last payment on my current lease. She had me thinking this was a great deal until she mentioned absorbing the last payment, then I felt like something was fishy. We'll see what she comes back with today. I wish the buying experience could just be straight forward!

thanks for the info! we ended up going with a chrysler T&C -- not our first choice, but you can get SO much more in a van for the price -- we got leather, auto start, auto doors (all of them), heated 1st and 2nd row seating, dual dvd, sunroof (didnt ask for it, van had it), remote start etc....fully loaded with $1500 down on a lease (tax and license) our payments are $350 -- so not bad! Our payments for the honda were going to be around $380 with $2000 down and it was a basic van with dvd --- honda is super nice but price is making the difference for us! good luck -- thanks for the info!

COSTCO price is Invoice plus $500 but no dealer is participating for 2011 Odyssey.
  • loveodyloveody Member Posts: 10
    At amazon.com
  • 3under53under5 Member Posts: 15
Yes, their doc fee was the highest. The others I got were close to $100. We'd probably be willing to buy now for $500 over invoice without any of those ridiculous "fees." But I'm with you about wanting it to be straight forward. I just want to find it and be in and out in an hour or less at the dealer. I'm not willing to travel unless I know the deal will be legit.

Congrats! I am shopping for new Odyssey. It is a good price. It is lower than what Edmunds TMV price which is 26585. How did you get that? Can you please give some tips.

    Thanks
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
As a retired Costco rep I can tell you that the amount of markup from invoice will vary by the model. On cars that are plentiful, it may just be a few hundred over invoice. On other cars in short supply they can be exempt from the program.

My guess is that the 2011 Odysseys will be exempt until inventories catch up with the demand.

I requested a quote for 2010 model a few months ago and the dealer told me costco price was invoice plus $500.

I think your statement makes sense.
  • samod2010samod2010 Member Posts: 3
Get the quote from different Honda dealers and ask them, if they can beat the price.

Expand your search to dealers within 120 miles.

    Thanks for the response...appreciate it.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Yes, on a 2010, that number would make sense. I understand there was a big run on them as the 2011's were introduced and that at this point, inventory is down to nothing in most areas.

Anytime a new model is introduced there will always be a few people who don't like the changes for whatever reason.
