I was curious if anyone here has or knows anyone who has purchased a car online using a carsdirect.com or something similar. Thier prices look great, but I always tend to think that if it's too good to be true, then it probably is too good to be true. Has anyone had a good or bad experience buying a car this way? Thanks.
Here is the breakdown on the 2005 Honda Accord EX-V6 Sedan:
Car Incl. Dest: $23,173
Delivery Out of State: $200
Doc: $45
Title: $14
Tire: $9
Total: $23,441 (Paid Cash)
I will also pay 5% sales tax in Idaho when I register the vehicle here. I paid $200 to have the vehicle delivered from Sacramento to Reno to avoid CA sales tax. I need to go home this way anyway, so it's easy and saves me about $550 in tax.
I purchased from Autowest Honda in Roseville and the experience was great. I got quotes from several other Sacramento area dealers that were up to $200 less, but only Autowest Roseville was both competitive and willing to assist me taking delivery out of state. Request a quote from their website and deal with the internet manager only. I got the usual pressure from the Finance Mgr. to buy the extended warranty, but I expect that (just say no).
The car is awesome! Very luxurious. Also, I averaged 31 mpg on the 500 mile trip back driving through the mountains at 65-80 MPH with the A/C on. I am very happy with it.
For the rest of you who live in smaller markets with provincial dealers who won't deal, don't be afraid to go out of town - it's easy, can save you a significant sum of money. This is what this forum and a free market is all about.
Buying out of town, if necessary, also sends an important message: "I know what other people are paying for this car. Treat me fair and I will buy locally, and you will make a reasonable profit. If not, I will buy from an out-of-town superstore and you will make nothing."
Good Luck
More maybe stupid questions:
should i buy insurance at dealer's place? or i should buy it before i buy the car?
can you recommend a good insurance company?
thanks a bunch
Thanks

Couple of insurance companies I can think of are State Farm, Geico, All State, Progressive... State Farm consistenly gave me lower quotes and I am with them for 6 years with no claims so my premiums went down quite a bit.
But they talked about the dealer's plate that can cover the car for one or two days. Is that a safe way to let me drive the car home on the day the deal is made?
:confuse:
CD was $1350 below dealer invoice in my case. they get me vote. best of luck.
...ez
Tell them you are going to buy your first car, and will need insurance.. They will set you up, perhaps even giving you a "binder" (temporary insurance paperwork).. then, once you make the deal, you can call them with the VIN number, and you are covered.. Even if they are closed, you can leave a message on their answering machine, and you will still be covered, as long as you have arranged the insurance ahead of time...
I recommend not doing this at the dealer... While it will work, you won't have the advantage of shopping around for the best rates..

Liberty Mutual and Nationwide are also good if you have perfect record.
Anyone know of dealers selling at this price. Seems it would be cheeper to buy an airline ticket that pay locally. Have $ will travel. Any ideas?
thanks

So it totally depends on how many 05 cars they have remaning. So to get the best deal try a huge dealer , who has better chances of on hand 05 inventory.
The LX-V6 is an oddball trim level. A dealer I was speaking with said for every 30 Accords, they get one LX-V6. I got the EX-V6 and its sweet, I would recommend spending the extra couple K on the EX, you will be thankful to enjoy a fancier car and for resale value. The demand is higher for the EX if you are getting the larger engine.
Cheers,
Tracy
A friend purchased a 4-Dr LX-V6 earlier this year for less than $22,700 OTD in Southern California. Hope this helps.
I just pulled the trigger on a 2005 Honda Accord EX (4cyl) without leather in Maryland for $21,539. This price was OTD including tax, tags, destination charge and the following options: pinstripe, door edge guards, wheel locks, mud flaps, front and rear all season floor matts, and a sunroof visor. I did the negotiating through the net.
Did I get a good deal, or did I get beat? Please discuss.
Thanks
Nice deal. Could you forward the info for the dealer please.
Enjoy your new car.
But I am getting a response that their price is "below invoice."
Which may be correct, but it's not good enough.
Is there a "proper" response?
Thanks,
S
The dealer that has the best price wants a deposit to get the car that I want.
Is this typical?
Thanks,
S
I received a quote via their internet sales department. I then called Ourisman Honda and had them price match and then beat the Jim Coleman quote. Then called Jim Coleman back and had them match the quote from Ourisman Honda. I chose Jim Coleman simply because they are closer to my home than Ourisman.
I just bought a new Honda accord. I am going through the extended warranty contract that the dealer gave me. It looks like most of the work has to be done at the same dealer? Also, it seems like only "Mechanical breakdown" is coverd. This seems fishy as any number of things could be classified as not being mechanical breakdown. does anybody have advice on this? Would much appreciate any help as this is my first new car !!
Thanks.

You don't need an extended warranty yet.
Get one here in 2 years:

I've got a some with better prices than carsdirect, but not with the color I want.
Even though I don't buy a new car too often I still would like to get the best deal possible.
So have asked for a response to this statement, which must be routine since several of the dealers have used it.
S
check your local pd..they may do it too.
Winston-Salem. This is the best Accord I"ve ever had and is the seventh
one I have bought since 1980.
I was curious about if carsdirect is the way to go if you can't get the price you want. Has anyone purchased a car from them? if so I'l really like to hear about the experience. Has anyone used carsdirect to negotiate with a dealer by telling the that you could get a better deal through carsdirect? Thanks for your help.
If your price is reasonable.. (say.. $18K on an LX auto 4 cyl.), then just tell them.. That is the price I want to pay... If you are on the lot, they likely won't let you walk out on that price..
If you are trying to do this by phone or e-mail, it will be easier, but not necessarily easier to actually get the price you want..

Thanks.
Of course, if you want a particular color etc you will have to wait a few days till the dealer can locate one for you. I think I did talk to one dealer about using carsdirect price to negotiate with them. They were pretty arrogant about it, but you could definitely try other dealers and see if they are willing to negotiate.
Was your 20499 out the door?

Thanks for the feedback. I think you are right, it is a rare oddball. I test drove the LX 4cyl and an EX V6 last night, and I decided to go with the LX 4cyl (I'm known for driving like a grandma anyway). Thank you again for responding.
Have a good day!

There 2 things you can do, once they give you a quote you hit the get local quotes and get dealers to beat or meet that price, is no one does then you can buy it from carsdirect.
Of course best would be to see what they quote , then get online quotes from all nearby dealers. If acrsdirect is still lowest , then throught their web site hit the "get quotes from local dealers" , that way carsdirect sends them their quote and they have a chance to beat that price.
Thanks for response :P
Hey did you get an online quote from them? After that call them and ask if they will throw in the splash gaurds or trunk tray for free. Their price is the best so far, so they might , but before you walk into the showroom its good to negotiate.
