Hi could you let me know where you got your pricing from, love to have them on my new cr-v, but dealer wants $695.00. Thanks so much, this is my first time posting, so I hope its o.k.
  • lzclzc Member Posts: 483
$695 for side moldings? Wow! Are you sure they don't think you're asking about the plastic cladding that runs below the doors (not sure about correct name) or some other part? My dealer thought so at first.

I paid $175 including dealer installation, which was plenty. The dealer said the list price was $259. I got the lower price by going to the Honda web site and "building" a CR-V. The price listed under accessories was $175. The dealer swallowed hard, but honored it. I just looked it up now and the price is listed at $234. Not great, but a lot better than $695.

If you're willing to install them yourself, $167 I think is the price from some Honda website parts suppliers. Good luck.

Just turned 800 miles on the 2008 Royal blue ex-l awd, washed it this weekend and found some cretin had door dinged the rear pass side of my new ride. WATCH OUT for babies r' us parking lots!! not horrible, but enough for my obsessive self to notice. it is on the crease in the lower part of the door.

So this AM I ordered moldings from H and A for $171.60 plus shipping, and some touch up paint as babies r' us is in the foreseeable future. It looks like the moldings will cover up the ding, hopefully.

Honda really should include moldings on the car, especially considering the "urban warfare" plastic on the rocker panels and bumpers. but, for the prices my dealer was asking, they make $$ on the accessories.

I'm thinking about buying a new (2008) CR-V EX-L with navigation. Where precisely is the iPOD adapter jack so I can plug in my Apple iPOD and listen to my music through the car's stereo? The brochure says it's in the center console but the salesman told me that it somehow attaches through the upper (smaller) glove box. I didn't see a "jack" in either place. Any assistance that anyone who has actually done this can provide would be greatly appreciated. Does anything appear on the nav screen when the iPOD's music is being played?
  • lzclzc Member Posts: 483
In my '07 CR-V EX-L (w/o nav), the aux input jack is in center console compartment, on the front wall just to left of the accessory power socket. It's eaiser to feel than see. It works fine, although no info displays on the screen. The '08 or nav model may be different.
  • diesellabsdiesellabs Member Posts: 8
On an 08 EL-L/NAV the IPOD jack is in the center console next to the 2nd 12V aux. power socket. Both have spring-loaded flip-up covers. I haven't connected an IPOD so I don't know if anything shows on the audio screen...

Hi I just purchsed a 2008 CR-V EX 4WD and the jack for the ipod is inbetween the front seats on the console that flips down in between the seats. It has a flip up door to access it and there is another flip up door that is a charge port. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, I can't seem to find it now, but someone said they mounted them higher than what Honda states to mount them and they also posted pictures (they looked really good), was that you and if so could you give me the measurements? thanks
  • kenneth813kenneth813 Member Posts: 38
The installation instruction can be find here http://www.bernardiparts.com/Images/Install/2008_CRV_BodySideMolding_AII37473.pd- f. You should follow the instruction and measurement exactly what Honda states to mount them.

I just got a quote from the Honda dealer for the following accessories, which I was considering for my new CR-X that I want to buy this week. The pricing is about 1.5 to 2 times higher than the accessories quotes on Honda's website. The excuse is that the pricing from Honda does not include installation. Still, this seems way out of line:

    Roof Rack-$367
    Trailer Hitch, received & harness-$784
    Moonroof visor-$200
    All season mats-$154
    Cargo Tray-$119
    Auto/Day night mirror-$502
    Fog Lights -$805
    Remote Start-$809

My hubby is not handy - so I think the only things we can handle ourselves are the cargo tray and the mats. Any thoughts on this pricing?

    Thanks!

Yes, new car dealer prices for labor are much higher than independent mechanics, and the price from Honda dealers to install OEM accessories "should" be about the same everywhere. Believe me, you can do the cargo rack yourself. Even someone who isn't mechanically inclined could do it in about 30 minutes. Obviously, charging to "install" mats and trays is totally ridiculous. I'm not familiar with the moon roof visor, so I can't comment on it. The hitch and associated wiring is very doable for folks with a bit of mechanical skill -- you may have a friend or family member who could do the job for a beer or two. The remainder of the accessories you mention would be best left to the dealer IMHO. BTW, you can easily find .pdf files of the installation instructions for Honda accessories on the 'Net; the same instruction sheets that Honda supplies to its dealers.
  • diesellabsdiesellabs Member Posts: 8
One advantage of having Honda dealer install the accessories is that they are covered under the Honda new-car warranty (3/36K).

That being said, do the mats and cargo liner yourself.

I had trailer hitch and wiring harness installed at a local truck/trailer shop for about $250.

The auto dim mirror installation is very complex - leave it to the dealer unless you're very accomplished removing interior parts and pieces.

Foglights were installed by dealer as part of purchase, so don't know exact cost.

Don't know about remote start installation.

Suggest you look at HandAAccessories web site and download pdfs for installation instructions for things you are interested in.

Has anyone heard about the feasibility of converting the headlights in a 2008 CR-V to auto on/off headlights? Would it be technically very difficult and/ or just cost prohibitive to do so? Who could do this sort of work? Thanks!
  • tdiidmantdiidman Member Posts: 35
Has anyone installed the 9 piece Honda wood trim kit in a 2007-2008 CR-V. How does it look with the gray leather interior? I have the EX-L with navigation model.

Everything is possible. There are electronic modules out there that allow you to do that. The cheapest way is to solder a photo sensor and relay kit together. most electronics stores have those kits for $5-$8. Then wire the kit in parallel with the headlight switch, and if you want to, you can solder a timer kit as well, so that the headlights stay on for 1-5 minutes after you shut off the engine. The timer kit is about another $5-$8.

If you haven't bought them from the dealer yet, DON'T. Try www.hondapartsdeals.com. I bought the accessories for my 2005 and new 2008 CR-V from them. The roof rack was only $205!!!! It was also incredibly easy to install. You can get the installation instructions on the web (search on installation instructions honda accessories). Or, you can still buy them online and have your dealer, or some other handy person, install them for you. I had bought the woodgrain kit for my 2005 CR-V and had the dealer install that. I'm about to attempt installing the moonroof visor now. Oh, and I'm a professional female who's somewhat handy. (All you need to be able to do is follow instructions and use a screwdriver!)

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

the iPod plays nicely, but nothing shows on the screen (I have the NAV screen). Also, you need to control it from the iPod (except for volume).

What are reputable sites for ordering accessories like side mouldings? I've seen a few mentioned already.
  • tdiidmantdiidman Member Posts: 35
I've ordered accessories and parts for Hondas from hondapartsdeals.com, a Rhode Island dealership with an internet sales division. I have nothing but praise for them- I think their prices are reasonable (usually at least a 20% discount off of MSRP) and they ship out orders promptly (if they don't have the part or accessory in stock, they can usually get it from a nearby warehouse the next day and then it gets sent out that day). Good luck!

I also have had great dealings with http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ I got sid moldings, cargo mat, all weather mats, and wheel locks. great company!! Somehow the state was wrong and they corrected it for me before my items where shipped to MT instead of NH. :)

This is exactly the info I've been looking for. Thank you.
  • shadowbeenshadowbeen Member Posts: 6
your very welcome, glad to help, if you happen to come accross the person that posted how they put on there side moldings at a different height than Honda recomends,( I saw a picture, it looked really good, but my computer crashed, no more hard drive had to get a new one) could you email me their site or info, somehow to get in touch with them to get thier measurements, due to the weather, I have yet to get them on (has to be atleast 60 degrees F) thanks and good luck :)

Don't do it, molding should be placed exactly where the manual says due to door reinforcement in that specific area .... Installing em higher wouldn't be very smart.
  • shadowbeenshadowbeen Member Posts: 6
thanks, never thought of that, will use honda's specks :)

    Hello all,
I'm buying a new CR-V next week - my first new Honda purchase ever.
I was going through the Honda accessories list and hoping to buy some of them with the purchase so they can be covered under warranty. Trying to understand how I can get the best deal on these. Here are a few questions I have.

    - Do they normally charge MSRP for the accessory itself or can you easily get a discount off MSRP
    - How do you prevent getting hammered on installation by Honda? Would the dealer have a standard price list for installation?
    - If I buy accessories from people outside of Honda (e.g., online) or have them installed by third-parties, does this harm my coverage under Honda warranty?
    - How do you make sure the body shop will do a good job putting in the Honda accessories? How can you find out how experienced they are?

    Thanks for your help!
  • pinnumberrpinnumberr Member Posts: 13
From reading the posts it seems you can save quite a bit ordering accessories on line and having them installed by an independent body shop (instead of Honda dealer), especially for people who are not do-it-your-self types.

Can anyone recommend a body shop skilled in New Jersey skilled at installing Honda accessories? Thanks!

I am thinking of buying an OEM roof rack and bike rack for my 97 CR-V. I was wondering if anyone has bought any of the two before and if they are easy to install?
  • georgew1georgew1 Member Posts: 31
I purchased a roof rack for my 2000 CR-V LX and it was a snap to install. It was a Honda rack from H and A which is advertised at the top of this site. The bike rack just attaches to the roof rack, I believe. Go for it.

Thanks, I saw the instructions on H and A and it seem pretty easy. The only thing that worries me is cutting the roof molding. Do I have to be really careful cutting it and does it have to be a perfect cut?
    Thanks

I the 2002-2006 CRV, when any of the four doors are open only the center dome light comes on. I the Honda Accord from the same year, the dome light and both map lights come on (thus providing more light). Does anyone have any idea how to achieve or how to change the wiring for this to happen in the CRV?
  • georgew1georgew1 Member Posts: 31
Gee, I'm sorry I gave you wrong information. I forgot that my 2000 CR-V came with a roof rack. I installed the rack on my 2004. The 2004 comes with the side rails already installed and all I had to install was the cross rails to make it functional.
I looked at the instructions for the 1997/2000 and I probably wouldn't have tried it. I'm not much for cutting into the sheet metal although the instructions were pretty good and Honda furnishes good instructions with their parts. I'm sorry I misled you. This old memory is worse than I thought.

I just installed the factory roof rack crossbars on my 07 CRV EX-L. Now, at certain times, and at varying speeds, I'm hearing a whistling sound. At first, thought it may have been coming through windshield, but now I believe it's coming from the roof rails. When I open up the sunroof, the whistle goes away, so I believe it is coming from the roof rails and opening the sunroof changes the aerodynamics causing the whistle to go away.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there anything that can be done? I honestly only need the rails for when we go on vacation and need to put the roof carrier on, but I'd hate to have to keep taking the rails on/off each time. Plus, the rails look awesome on the dark cherry red CRV!!! I also worry that repeated installing and uninstalling will both strip the bolt heads and cause the rails to be less secure over time.

    Thoughts?
  • kayakboykayakboy Member Posts: 1
If you take off the crossbars does it still make noise?

I am not familiar with the CR-V roof rack, but on other systems, moving the crossbars either forward or backwards can help with the noise.

    Hope that helps.
  • phisherphisher Member Posts: 175
You may want to install the moon roof visor. It may deflect the air flow enough to stop the noise. Just a thought and it's really easy to install.
  • charleyb2charleyb2 Member Posts: 1
Hi - I have recently purchased a Honda CRV EX and had a roof rack put on. It whistles at varies speeds as you mentioned. Have you found a solution? The Dealer says they can't fix it, but I'm sure there is a solution.
    Thanks,

I have an 06 cr-v with barely 30,000 and already hear a clicking with tight left turn, this is a 4 wheel drive. I spoke with another owner who says he had same problem and that the grease in rear end has to be replaced. Worse yet, he says you cant't do it yourseld b/c the install plug is above and you can't pour, it has to be pumped. Anyone else having this problem?
  • phisherphisher Member Posts: 175
It's the rear differential fluid that need to be replaced. Take a look at the thread relating to this. Long story short the manual says to replace the fluid at 60,000 but is really needs to be replaced sooner. Bring it to the dealership and if they try to charge you point out in the manual that it says 60,000. They should change it for free.

Does anyone have experience with the "Aero" package offered for the CR-V? It definitely adds a little jazz to it, but wasn't sure of the price on the package...
  • bigdadi118bigdadi118 Member Posts: 1,207
The whistling noise is due to the cross bar was installed reversely by mistake.
Try to reverse it, the front should face the back, and see the result.

    What is an "Aero" package?
  • truckie4lifetruckie4life Member Posts: 56
Best thing to do is google it...
  • tidestertidester Member Posts: 10,059
The Aero-Package is a performance package that includes, among other things, front and side spoilers, a rear diffuser, “Aero” bumpers, aerodynamic running boards and 19-inch alloy wheels along with a sports suspension. It's quite sharp. :)

    Hi,
Checking to see if anyone has installed a Honda branded remote starter?

Reviewing the Honda written installation instructions, this definitely does not seem like a DIY project: http://www.handa-accessories.com/crvelect07.html

However I am also nervous about the dealer technician tampering with a brand new vehicle. Sometimes the technicians at the dealerships are no more qualified than the guy working at Jiffy Lube. I wish Honda would offer this as a factory installed option.

Any feedback on installation or performance of this remote starter would be appreciated. Thanks!

For anyone who's interested: the cargo shelf (as opposed to the retractable cargo cover) is not available for the LX from Honda, to the best of my knowledge. I've searched all over for this shelf which comes standard in the EX. My salesperson assured me twice that I could get the duel cargo shelf as an accessory... Uh-Uh...I finally found it on ebay through a fellow that custom makes them for the LX. It cost me $144 and fits right into the grooves in the cargo area, resting on the hooks. I'm very pleased with it - and just thought I'd pass this along to anyone else with an LX who might want to put in the cargo shelf.
  • vrmvrm Member Posts: 310
The dual cargo shelf is standard on the 2010 EX and EXL.

Here is a picture of this shelf on the Honda web site:

Just bought an OEM cargo tray for my 2009 LX and was surprised to see how poorly the tray fits. I posted an image to the photo area here under tag CRV Cargo Tray. The tray curls up over the edges instead of laying flat at the border of carpet and side wall, and flops over the plastic parts at the front right and left edges of the flooring, covering what should be exposed and leaving exposed a small part of carpet that should be covered. I've double checked the part number and mine is correct. Is this the normal state of things? I expected a perfect fit, just as I had with my 02 Forester's tray.

If corners and edges curl up, use some heavy books, like phone books, put there overnight.
  • rmb48rmb48 Member Posts: 9
Thanks. I'm wondering though about the overall fit -- if you look at my posted image here you'll see how the tray doesn't fit at the front at all. I want to know if this is normal. Do you know?
