My '06 SE comes with the XM antenna factory installed.
You mean the black plastic thing on the rear roof? It's a plastic cap over the hole where you would mount the Honda XM antenna if you bought the Honda XM receiver and had it installed.
The CR-V comes "ready" for installation of the Honda XM receiver and antenna. It does not include either unless you pay for them.
Before we chose the Britax Boulevard as our carseat we checked to see if it could be used in the 2003 Honda CRV. After we got the car seat we found that this baby did not enjoy riding in the sides of the back seat as her mom had her in the middle of the back seat of her car. When we took our car for service we asked the service tech if we could have the seat installed in the center position and he said that it had to be on one side or the other, not in the center. Is there any way to get an additional tether strap or belt to be able to use the seat in the center position or do all of you have yours on the side?
Thanks everyone for the replies to my posts regarding the armrest and the XM gig. FYI - JJ products does have an armrest that can be installed on the drivers side but not the passenger side of the 06. There is a new sensor in the passenger side seat.
OK - one more question - anyone out there have the new Ipod adapter installed? How much did it cost??
When I called the parts dept at my local dealership they told me there were no seat covers available for the 06 EX. Does anyone have any suggestions for seat covers that won't interfere with airbag deployment?
I don't see why a car seat cannot be installed in the center position. The service advisor may have meant that you could not use the LATCH anchors in the center position. But you can still install the seat using the belts. (Unless Britax has some weird restrictions.)
Does anyone know if the Honda Ipod adapter for the 2006 models can be used in a 2005 SE? The guys at H and A say that Honda says that it is only for the 2006s. They didn't specify why not and they did mention that the stock radios for the 2005 and 2006 models is the same. Could it have anything to do with the computer?
Would like to know if two booster seats and one infant seat will fit in the back seat of a 2006 Honda CRV. I assume it would be tight but is it possible? Would appreciate any responses.
I posted this note on the CRV board (and received one helpful answer), but it probably should have been posted here. Here it is:
I promised to buy my son a CRV this spring. He is so excited he went out and purchased 18" wheels in anticipation of the wonderful event.
Does anyone have 18" wheels on their CRV, and if so, are there any good or bad things to be aware of? Thanks in advance.
Varmint answered it there, but I will add that putting 18 inch wheels will void any new car warranty on suspension and transmission. If you are buying a used one for him be preppared to shell out a few bucks every 3-4 months for new hubs and bearings, as well as replacement rims if you live anywhere where there are potholes.
Does it matter if they were downgraded to 17" wheels instead of 18"? Or does any aftermarket wheel void the warranty?
Not any aftermarket wheel voids warranty, but if the wheel is not within Honda spec it will. Whether it is the weight, offset, diameter, and rotational inertia it has to be within Honda spec for that vehicle.
If he gets 18 inch wheels that weigh the same with the tire and have the same rotational inertia (almost impossible), same offset he may squeek by Honda and get warranty service, but he would have to go through rounds of "no's" and probably hire an expert to testify that his set up was within Honda specifications.
Most all aftermarket rims are called "alloy', but really have no weight advantage over a stock rim. When you move to 18" you are adding significantly more weight to the wheels. To get alloys which are truly light-weight, you have to shell out a whole lotta clams.
Well, if you have the old wheels still sitting around, and there is a problem with the bearings or transmission, all I will have to do is pop the stock wheels and tires back on... No one will know the difference..
We could not fit two booster seats and a forward facing Brittax Marathon in the back of our CR-V (2006). The Brittax is a big seat though so you might have better luck with a smaller car seat and two boosters.
My dealer puts in an oil additive called ASSURE,technican who is a friend of mine says it very good.Anybody using, and having good luck, with any oil additives that can be purchased at any auto parts stores????? Thanks John
My dealer puts in an oil additive called ASSURE,technican who is a friend of mine says it very good.Anybody using, and having good luck, with any oil additives that can be purchased at any auto parts stores????? Thanks John
What exactly does it do, and what is in it that makes it "Very good"
I just use Mobil 1 oil. That is pretty good on its own.
Unfortunatley, my last picture with a potentiometer (intemediate step) was deleted because some people complained it messed up the graphics (hint, change the resolution of the monitor)
Here is the finished result. Notice the ring that allows to change the speed of the intermittant wiper. As an added benefit, the wiper speed is now tied to the speed of the vehicle. In the fastest intermittant setting, once I reach 12 mph, the wipers automatically go to the "Low" non-intermittant speed setting.
Total cost, $35 for the RSX switch. Thanks to K24RD6 and Norsepanda from the "other" site.

Hi John, in 45 plus years of fooling with cars, oil additives in modern engines are simply not required unless you already have a very high-mileage oil burner and need to reduce the piston ring/cylinder wall clearances. In fact, use of additives when they are not sanctioned by the car manufacturer may actually void your warranty! As an '04 CRV owner, I just change the oil and filter every 5K. Hope this helps! Lowell
I'm looking at a set of Cover Kings in Tan Cordura. Looks like they fit well (custom for each make and model), and they don't interfere with the airbags. I've heard good things about them. Pricey though.
That's great!!! It's one of the feature I miss most on this car. Care to give details? RSX - is that from an Acura? Probably will have to have a dealer do it otherwise might void the warranty.

I didn't think anyone still used 15" monitors. You can hardly find 15" LCD's these days. I don't think 15" CRT's are even available. I guess I am spoiled, I haven't had a 15" inch monitor (CRT, nor LCD) since the late 90's.
That's great!!! It's one of the feature I miss most on this car. Care to give details? RSX - is that from an Acura? Probably will have to have a dealer do it otherwise might void the warranty.
Yes, the switch is from Acura RSX, which is built on the same platform as the current CR-V (2001 Civic platform). The write up is on "the other" site which I can not link because it has a forum and linking other forums is against Edmunds' policies. If you google for Honda SUV, you will find it.
Dealer won't do it, because it is not in their repair manual. People will have to do it themselves, or have someone do it. If you are in Buffalo, NY or around, I can do it, you pay for the parts, and lunch is on you.
As far as voiding the warranty, it probably does void the warranty on the wiper, but if something were to happen, I can quickly put the old switch back and take it in for warranty work. This is a Honda part, so, chance of having it damage anything is very remote.
Thanks again! I found it, this is just soooo great! I don't know if I'd be able to do it myself, kinda scared to tinker with a new and sofisticated vehicle (changing thermostat and doing brakes is as far as I've gone), but after going over the file (great job, isn't it!) a dozen times I'll master the courage . And if in the meantime I manage to get to your neck o' the woods, you'll be wined and dined .
Anyone know of an anti-theft device or suggestion for securing the hard spare tire cover of a 2006 CRV SE?
There are two very small zipper pulls that might be locked together with a very, very thin lock but I was hoping for something more secure.
I'm concerned that using a plastic tie wrap would be a pain to remove if one ever needed to access the spare tire in an emergency. Also looking for a solution that won't cause rattling.
Anyone know of an anti-theft device or suggestion for securing the hard spare tire cover of a 2006 CRV SE?
Yeah, take it off and keep it in the garage :P
Even if you put the lock on it, the soft cloth material can be cut with a razor blade if one wanted to get the hard shell, or the tire. I know from experience, I went through 3 spare tire covers on my Gen 1 SE, all from overnight visits to the Bronx.
Will '98 Accord V6 16-inch factory alloys fit on my '01 2WD CRV that currently has 15-inch steel rims? They are both 5-bolt X 114.3 mm but I am concerned about any offsets.
Also, what size tire do I run on the 16-inch to match my stock tires height? Thanks!
CORRECTION: Will '01 Accord V6 16-inch factory alloys fit on my '01 2WD CRV that currently has 15-inch steel rims? They are both 5-bolt X 114.3 mm but I am concerned about any offsets. Anything else I should be concerned about re: fit, track, alignment or ???
Also, what size tire do I run on the 16-inch to match my stock tires height? Currently have 205/70X15 so probably 215/65X16? Thanks!
I've never found a good answer to this question.. Every Honda tech or parts guy that I ask says: "You just have to put them on and see if they fit." Duhh..
Anyway, assuming that the offset is okay.. you'll want 215/60-16 or 225/60-16 to keep the same diameter.. 215/65-16 will be too tall..
We were anticipating buying a Honda CR-V for my wife, she test drove one and liked it, we then went back and decided that we should take one more test drive. The drivers seat seemed hard, very uncomfortable. She has had hip surgery. Anybody experiencing discomfort with the seat, if so, any suggestions
tomhsv - we are having the same problem, we have not made the purchase but my wife rejected the car after we decided to buy it. have you had any suggestions. Would leather help?
I have a 2005 SE (i.e., leather). The seats are very firm. When I just pop into the vehicle they feel firm. After I've been in them for a few minutes they feel fine. I was actually amazed at how comfortable they really were after a two hour drive. Very good support... JMHO
The only problem with that chart, is they don't give the actual offsets.... Just High, Medium, and Low... Not sure I'd bet on a correct fitment off of that..
I'm not sure exactly what CB is either... Some kind of brake clearance number, maybe... It seems directly proportional to the diameter of the wheels, though..
You'll learn a lot more from members like varmint or theracoon on these boards.... They taught me everything I know!!
Another question: I have a set of 15-inch '05 Toyota Tacoma stock steel wheels with the same bolt pattern as my CRV. The only difference is the Tacoma wheels have 215/70/15 tires while the CRV has 205/70/15 - what would be the impact on the speedometer, and in your opinion would it be an OK fit?
I'm not going to profer an opinion on whether it would be an okay fit... not an expert on that..
But, the tires would be 0.6 inches taller... and your speedometer error would be about 2%... which is not a lot.. You'd be traveling about 2% faster than your speedometer indicates..
Again, offset is what you have to worry about it..
Forgetting for the moment that Honda’s “XM-Ready” designation for the SE is the ultimate in “Read the fine print”, I found a terrific Honda Dealer (College Hills Honda) on line that sold me the XM Unit (Receiver, Antenna etc) for almost $200 less than the dealer I purchased the car from ..as well as other local Honda Dealerships .. The install was a mere $150 from a local Auto-Sound Specialists. In total I spent $520 instead of the $780 my local Honda dealers wanted .BTW Neither local dealer would match the price of: http://www.collegehillshonda.com/parts/ t
OK, so I have been contemplating getting the Elechtrochromatic mirror, but the $400 MSRP or the $280 "discounted" price was still too much for me to justify it. After doing a little research, I desided to take my chances and scoured junk yards for any electrochromatic mirror.
I found a late 90's Oldsmobille Bravada with a stock/basic self-dimming mirror. I did not care for the temp gauge, as I already have one in the gauge cluster, courtesy of OEM Honda, and the compass is useless.
The price was perfect, $27, which came out to be $30 with tax. I had to grow the harness a bit. It came with a plug and 3 short wires. The wires are: Ground, + 12, and reverse lights. The reverse lights wire is for when you put your car in reverse, which kills the tint.
Knowing from previous Hondas that they come with a camlock mirror mount I was surprized to find that I already have a wedge glued to the windshield. So, the camlock kit I bought for this installation is not needed.(Probably pre-2005 and UK made CR-V's, but I am not 100% sure)
After some thought and the fact that it is 15°F outside (heat wave today) :-) I desided for the time being to just connect the mirror to the overhead lights power source. There are two bolts in the sunglass holder and 2 under the lens. Follow the bulb replacement procedure from the owner's manual to get to the bolts.
Until the spring arrives, I will just use the OFF/LO/HI switch to activate the mirror. Then when it is warm enough to work outside without losing feeling in your fingers and toes, I will rewire it to come on automatically with the parking lights.
So, here it is Self-dimming mirror that looks OEM for $30.
blueiedgod/theracoon Sorry for the belated reply Thanks for your research/Info Looks like College Hills was $20 more than HandA, but all in all I’m happy to have saved what I did over my local Honda Dealers .My next accessory purchase will be Fog Lights (our Price $238.80 HandA) ($248.75 College Hills)..Though College shipped out the XM stuff very quickly The DYI is a bit over my head, so I’ll have to investigate the price for installing before I order .The guys who installed XM for me might give me a good deal on Fogs Any ideas on a ballpark figure? Cheers t
"Then when it is warm enough to work outside without losing feeling in your fingers and toes, I will rewire it to come on automatically with the parking lights."
Most of these mirrors have a daylight sensor that shuts off the darkening during the day. It is a small eyehole in the front of the mirror. Just connect it to a hot power source and the mirror will take care of automatically dimming only at night.
Also, don't forget to connect the back up wires - it is critical when in reverse at night.
I installed a polychromatic with compass and temp on my 2003 CR-V. Loved it.

Majestic has it for $224

San Leandro has it for $322.
So, you got a good deal on yours, except that DIY would have saved you an additional $150 :-)
HandA has it for $369
San Leandro has it for $322.
The Majestic and San Leandro prices blue quoted are misleading, as they doen't include the mounting kit or antenna. If you add those:
Majestic: $333
San Leandro: $482
The HandA price includes all necessary components for installation.
